Former IB student and current IB teacher here! Even though it's been 10 years since I got my Diploma, a lot of your tips really brought the memories back. Thanks for sharing your experience and I'm thinking of directing my students here for some much needed motivation as IAs and exam prep lead them into the last leg before their finals. All the best to you in college and beyond!
Aw wow that’s so kind of you! Thank you so much for sharing and I really hope these videos can be of help to your students. They can do it and I’m sure they’re in good hands. Best of luck! This means a lot to me.
45 is 45 of course but there are “many” people who are no lifes, just study 24/7, get perfect grades etc. Its nice to see someone like you who is both good at “life” stuff and scores at the same time. This is my first time I am watching your videos and can already see how you have good sense of humor, good thoughts/takeaways, even the fact that you made this video well (technicals aspects) show that you are a great person. Many people who get 43+ do not have such “skills” and can get a little lost later in life :)
Aww wow thank you so much Antek. This is so kind of you and I really appreciate your kind words. I was never someone obsessed with the study lifestyle and I struggled a lot thinking I needed to. You sound like an amazing person with exciting things in store and I wish you the best in all that you do.☺️🙌🏼
@lookmeintheeye I think it is if you have to be a bit lucky (42/43+ you need some luck), have crazy time management and of course be smart (not genius), and not have serious problems during the exams (handle stress mostly). Yeah you will sacrifice some things like sports but think about how much we procrastinate or "waste" time watching youtube, netflix, social media etc. People who get 40+ focus in class for both years, do not waste time on youtube etc. and have a good study plan that they stick to a couple months before the exams. I am towards the end of my exams now and hoping to meet my conditional at 38. I didn't do much school work outside of class in the first year, procrastinate a lot and only studied intensively about 2 weeks before exams. I noticed a lot of my subjects are borderline 6/7, some 5/6. The thing is to make that improvement of one point from 6 to 7 you need a good study plan, especially 2-3 months before exams. This is because to get that one point extra you need to know little details/definitions. They are just super boring to learn, take a lot of time, and 90% of them won't show up on the test, so we end up watching youtube after 20 minutes of learning them. Good understanding of the concepts and a few weeks of cramming gets you to a 6. The thing is that one extra point seems like not much but looking at all subjects you are getting roughly 42, with luck higher. Of course I am speaking for myself and my subjects (hl econ, physics, psych, sl lang lit, spanish B, math). Languages you can do well in if you are talented/gifted at writing, whatever you wanna call it, but the rest is 3 months of studying before the exam (there you can argue you don't have much of a social life) assuming you are fairly smart and understand concepts.
@lookmeintheeye And of course motivation. If I would not be going to my uni because of my gf, I'd be chilling and going for a decent score like 33-34. Most people getting 40+ have motivation because of the good uni and opportunities it opens up. For me that just doesn't work because like most procrastinators anything that has benefits after a long time (weeks, month at best) simply don't motivate me (enough at least).
This is so helpful ! I’ve been having the hugest dilemma on whether I should take ib next year or not bc there are so many mixed opinions but this is really inspiring!!!

Hey Katie I am taking the November 2018 exams which are about a month away, do you think it's too late to improve? (I am currently predicted a 39 but want to get atleast a 41)
Hi Katie. Your tips are quite helpful tbh. Thank you for being the ‘breadbasket’ of IB resources. I am currently at a 42/45 after my first year and I hope that I can bump it up.
Wow with that mindset of yours it's no wonder you got a 45! You really deserved it! I just found your channel today and I find that you are such an amazing person, I really admire you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these videos for us. Also the fact that you admitted that you weren't always the top student makes all of us feel incredibly reassured, since we won't have to think how we are just not smart enough. I am presently a 10th grade student in Canada and I've been doing the french pre-IB program since 6th grade. I'm passing, but I find it really hard to get grades over 90% even though I try my hardest. I'm not in the diploma program yet since it starts in 11th grade. I hope I will be fine. Thank you so much for everything!! Everything you said is so useful and makes me feel a bit better as an unhealthy perfectionist. Again, thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart.
Aww lucie thank you so much!! This was so kind of you. I wish you THE BEST. So excited for you especially because it sounds like you have a tough mindset yourself🥰❤️
@@KatieTracy Thank you so much too!! I hope my mindset can be as solid as yours for the years to come. I still have so many other questions to ask you, so you might see me comment on your other videos too. Thank you again!
I would recommend this video to everybody thinking about going into IB. I really wish this was out when I did IB. Although my experience was a far cry from her, I think it had more to do with my failure of a school than IB.
I realised that I could have the 45 within reach and your reaction video motivated me so much! I take HL math, chem, physics and english be and SL swedish lit and economics.
Aloha! I'm starting IB this August and it's really nerve-wrecking that it's making me worry even in my summer time. This video really helped me calm down. Thank you!!
I am an IB junior in the last month before senior year, and IB is killing me! I’m not trying to scare anyone, but IB is serious. Don’t let anything stress you out too much, though, because in the end it’s all worth it. This video is very helpful and so great
Wow Katy this was really motivating. Thank you! I'm starting my second year of the IBDP in just over a week and I'm honestly dreading it because I've struggled with procastination and lack of motivation, to the point I just want to pass and get the diploma. But this really helps me lift my head up and just get my shit together already to hopefully achieve the goals I set for myself when I started last year. Thank you for posting this!
I've done PYP, am currently in MYP, and will do the IB. All I can say is that I'm scared for the IB and I really don't know how to decide which classes to take. Please make a video on that!
