They literally could not have picked a better person to play The Punisher than Jon. He was literally born to play this character. Shane was just a warmup for him.
I seem to remember one of the crossover comics having Wolverine give a statement regarding Punisher, along the lines of 'They don't really fear us. They know we won't kill them, that we are too good for that. Frank? He's their boogeyman.' The issue that even the darker heroes have with Frank, isn't that he kills, it's that he is too black and white. He's too heavy-handed, placing the same sentence on some punk stealing bread, as he would on Thanos. He has no scale or restraint, he's always turned up to 11. It's not because he's crazy that they don't like him (lot of heroes are quite insane), it's because he has ZERO chill and an absurd amount of tunnel vision.
Some of my favorite shit was when he tries to kill Venom and venom is like hey man lets team up and go after the bad guys and frank keeps trying to kill him even while venom is driving them around trying to have a friendly chat he's loading up guns and shooting him in the head as they drive along haha.
He is uncompromising, to a fault. I remember reading Civil War and, the first thing Frank did when entering the Team Cap hideout and seeing two villains hanging about, was shoot them dead. Like, he barely even thought things through. He didn't pause to consider WHY they were there, or why Cap tolerated their presence. He just pulled out a piece and capped them both like it was a Shooting gallery. And then Cap beat the crap out of him for that. But he refused to even fight back or defend himself. Since he has the utmost respect for Steve Rogers.
I love how intriguing his view on why frank does what he does in the punisher max series. It literally has him basically admit that he was always the punisher and he actually loves killing, his family being killed was just an excuse to fully embrace that side of himself.
Against all the evil that Hell can conjure, all the wickedness that mankind can produce, we will send unto them... only you. Rip and tear, until it is done.
When the Dark elves attack earth during War of Realms, I loved one of the first heroes they stumbled on was Punisher. They thought they cornered a normal human by their van, boy did they have it wrong. The elves had a change of tune when he opened the back and his arsenal popped out. Their last talk bubble, " HOW MUCH LEAD DOES THIS HUMAN HAVE!".
I know this is typecasting, but if they ever give Doom the Dredd treatment (For all the respect I have for Sly, Karl Urban's Judge Dredd was such an improvement), Jon Bernthal might be the guy.
Punisher and the doom marine share lots of similarities if you think about it. Both of their upbringings involve loss of a loved one. Daisy for Doomguy and the wife and kids of Frank.
For once a video like this that actually uses a variety of the majestic tracks made by our Lord and savior Mick Gordon, instead of just The Only Thing They Fear Is You.
I wholeheartedly agree with Frank. If you don't put a permanent end to them, more often than not, they will keep coming back. So if your moral is that "their life isn't mine to take", you're just gonna keep fighting the same fight forever, only hoping that they eventually give up. However, if you're merciless like the Punisher, you not only end one fight, but possibly prevent other fights by instilling fear in others.
Same here, to a limited degree. At some point it has to end, if these people keep getting let out of jail on technicalities (Hero's are vigilantes and laws regarding them fighting other criminals are wiggy at best), basically, the justice system has to be the one to investigate, arrest, and prosecute the criminals, so when a hero does it, the bad guys often go free, but when folks like The Punisher get involved... it ends, for better or worse, the bad guys are stopped.

He not only walks after being injured so badly it would kill anyone else but will keep fighting. I think he’d win by a very, very narrow margin though.

I don't like these comparisons people are making with the Punisher and the Slayer. On the surface level, they're pretty similar, sure. But fundamentally, they're completely different. The Slayer kills monsters as well as those under Hell's influence both as an act of vengeance and salvation. The Punisher kills bad human beings _primarily_ because he likes it (the "punishment" explanation is actually just an excuse for his real motive). He does to people what the Slayer does to demons. Most people don't seem to realize that the Punisher is a degenerate psychopath who's out of touch with reality. His true nature is killing people in war. During peacetime? Well, best case scenario in Frank's mind is to fight a one man war against the dregs of society, so he channels his violent tendencies towards heavy drug dealers, murderers, and rapists. Deep down, he does all this because it makes him feel alive, not because it's punishment. The Slayer, on the other hand, while still an anti-hero, is _much_ more heroic than the Punisher because he mainly targets monsters. This isn't to say that the Slayer never killed an actual person; he probably killed many people during the Sentinel Insurrection, which, again, is WAR. The point though is that the Slayer's MO is to kill what is evil and incorrigible because he *needs* to, whereas the Punisher's MO is to kill what is evil and perhaps redeemable because he *wants* to. There's an important difference between demons/demonically corrupted and actual people. Maybe the Punisher wouldn't be able to see the difference at times, but the Slayer certainly would. If people truly believe that the Slayer is so much like the Punisher that the former would even be unrepentant in glory killing actual people, for instance, then they should understand that the optics surrounding that at least warrant an immensely sizable negative reaction. They should understand that therefore the Slayer would suffer the consequences for that. You would hear the Resistance Network relay a very polarized message on the Slayer, talking about mass condemnation of how he operates in addition to the canonical depiction of the fanatical support aimed towards him. People like Elena Richardson would be joined by others that are otherwise more critical of the Slayer. At least in spirit, he would not nearly have as much support as he currently has now. This is a bit off-topic, but one of the more particularly frightening comments mentions the Punisher and the Slayer siding with Spider-Man (unless I'm misinterpreting said comment). This baffles me because if the Punisher version of the Slayer was actually a thing, people like Spider-Man would at best have a strained and _very temporary_ partnership with the likes of these two anti-heroes. Spidey wouldn't be buddy-buddy with these types of individuals. No amount of badassery, sharing of tragic pasts, emotional manipulation, or whatever will make Spider-Man side with any of these guys other than short-term necessity. For all intents and purposes, the Slayer is a PG version of the Punisher. I don't care how violent, bloody, and gory the Doom games are. The Punisher is way too dark a character to be likened with the Slayer.
