    The wonderful people at Finca San Cayetano are graciously hosting our camera at their resort. The camera is about 8km away from the top of Fuego. Sometimes you'll be able to hear the eruptions. Due to the speed of sound, it'll take about 26 seconds after you see an explosion before you hear it.

    We literally spent the night of 8th of March up in the base camp and it was sleeping soundly with one puff of smoke. Wow we were lucky

    I climbed Fuego in '79 ended up spending the night on it , almost died several times

    I got out the night before and we were waiting to erupt but it has only fumes coming out of it that night, watched Fuego all nightlong but nothing happened .. and we left on Sunday morning. Dang, what a lucky people to watch this.

    So for the shockwave to reach the camera is 23 seconds which means the camera is about 4.3 miles away from the volcano

      I calculated from the time the blast appeared (2:12) to the time the shockwave hit (2:39) giving me 27 seconds. At roughly 1100 ft/s (this will change with air temp but is close) giving me 28,700 feet or 5.625 miles. Regardless, pretty cools stuff!

    That was big eruption, I am curious that there were night hikers on Fuego around midnight, anyone injured from time of Eruption?

    Was anyone hurt? I hiked over to Fuego just last year from Acatenango (where this looks like it was filmed from). But, if we were standing where our group was when we hiked to Fuego and this happened... it would not have been a happy day.

      The camera is about 8km from the volcano at a resort that has rental cabins. It's always filming. You can watch the livestream at Afar TV
