Laura what’s the name of the pub please? I am a massive fan of Keith and Gary. Such a shame they are gone, it’s making me feel old. All the best Mark from Nottingham
@@markduckmanton4227 maltsters arms. It's in tuckenhay totnes. They have a room dedicated to Keith with pictures and his cookbooks lined up. It's a lovely place to be by the river.
Kieth Floyd and Gary Rhodes were two of the most talented, inspirational and educational chefs that Britain has ever produced. They were true trailblazers for the generations of 'celebrity' chefs that have followed. Often copied, but never bettered. R.I.P both.
I went from tins of veg to proper fresh everything and coming from Scotland we would go out at the weekend and go picking mussels and waulks buy local crab and lobsters aahhh the good old days .ps we still take our adult children out to forage the coast every now and then
Blimey I still have this cookery book, Keith Floyd the man who put British seafood back on the map and a young Gary Rhodes who put British food back where it belongs on the worlds plate, God bless them both their contributions to British cookery will never be forgotten or underestimated.
I've always loved this sequence. Fabulous meeting of two pioneers of British television cooking. One in his prime, one not even on the radar as a "celebrity chef". Both sadly no longer with us. However- Gary's Oxtail's still are- they are a really fabulous British Winter meal. Farewell, Keith and Gary.
There was none more gifted then floyd in the kitchen, he had the ability to transfer recipes to all those watching, useing humour and his larikren nature he was the genius of modern day tv chefs. There will never be another .
Keith loading all the oxtails in at once. Gary, trying to contain himself: "I think that'll do us for now." Keith: puts one more in. Wow, what a pair. Poor Richard!
Every British TV chef today kneels down and prays to an icon of Keith Floyd, because he was the first, and he helped so many others. He was the true meaning of 'genius'.
Stephen Smith Watching this again, I am even more amazed that his whole delivery was a million miles ahead of his time, and would still be considered brilliant viewing today. Marvellous.
andreasegde They are showing some of his programs on freeview at the moment, they are still as good today. Also there is some early stuff with him and a very young marco piere white at Harveys, they were good friends and its worth a watch.
White aprons, white clogs. No sleeve tattoos no music belting out. Another era, one of the reasons I was a chef was G Rhodes, a true hero and much missed.
Pleasant well mannered chefs, mild mannered and polite.unlike some pompous self centred chefs who make a living out of being rude, these two were true gentlemen.sadly missed but remembered fondly
@@richardbryant3169 I've got Two of his cook books which I've had for years, but went out today to the opportunity shop and bought his book " A feast of floyd from 1989" for $4.00 what a bargain. looking forward to cooking some of his great food.
I remember this guy Keith from when i was a kid, his commercials used to be on all the time here in australia, i forgot what exactly he was advertising, but the face and the accent , i can't forget, i see in the comments here , he has passed away already..well Rest in peace sir.
Hi Laura, No we haven’t made it there yet. Maybe October, this year has put the kybosh on many a plan, I’m afraid. I like your favourites playlist, many of mine are there. If you like Led Zeppelin, try Tangerine, Going to California and Thank you. Dust in the Wind by Kansas, which seems apt at the moment is one of my favourites. Hope you are well and happy. All the best Mark
Beautiful meaty pieces of oxtail indeed, I would hang a painting of that on my wall. Only too bad it couldn't provide the flavour and aroma, but if it would be a really good painting maybe it could even bring that back - from previous sittings - along with other memories. If not, just start cooking then! Or whatever the case just do, anyway! (Oh darn, I actually wrote that mid-video before Floyd started talking about paintings. We must've felt the same RIP)
If BBC studios can find this gem 💎 then please please can you upload the 2000-2001 cooking show called friends for dinner preferably the Gary Rhodes episode or the Gordon Ramsay episode Please please
You simply cannot over estimate Floyds positive influence on British food, and cooking. People wanted to be him (maybe not that much like him lol), to be that person dipping their finger in some gorgeous tasting meaty dish, and tasting the red wine. Loving food. And then latterly Gary Rhodes and all his peers.
I consider myself sort of a badass when it comes to oxtails. If i may say so. I don't however take the fat off, I brown them as is and braise in beef stock and aromatics, for soups. Obviously for a spaghetti sauce they get browned then some tomato paste added before hitting the sauce for a good 3-4.5 hr.simmer. Browning the paste is key.. ;-)
Both are missed. Shame Gary went so early. Surprised to see Keith was only 6 years older than Gary when he went. He always seemed rather older than he was, I guess.
So terribly sad for Gary's family , I remember the Oxtail recipe because they used to be so cheap but after Gary's television programme the price rocketed as did pigs cheeks and trotters , I have all his books but know most recipes by heart .
I've been a Chef for 30 years and these two were the reason I started, both missed.
Both much missed
They’re both legends! I miss them and and thankful for these videos. Proper food 😙
Gone are the days, of the personality x how I miss them x
Rhodes was around when I first came into kitchens in 94. I never knew cheffing when he wasn’t around 😢. Much missed
We visit Keith's pub quite often as we live locally. He's very missed. Now gary has gone too. Hopefully they're both cooking again together somewhere.

Richard Lincoln WHAT WHEN DID GARY KICK THE BUCKET
Yes unfortunately

Very sad news to hear of the passing of Gary Rhodes today. Here we have two chefs who sparked a culinary love in so many people. Two lost legends.

Gary's book New British Classics is one of the few cookbooks I own that I regularly go back to.
Blimey I still have this cookery book, Keith Floyd the man who put British seafood back on the map and a young Gary Rhodes who put British food back where it belongs on the worlds plate, God bless them both their contributions to British cookery will never be forgotten or underestimated.

Gosh Gary looked so young. I used to love watching both Keith and Gary. Both great both missed
Keith loading all the oxtails in at once.
Gary, trying to contain himself: "I think that'll do us for now."
Keith: puts one more in.
Wow, what a pair.
Poor Richard!
Hehe everybody watching is like "Enough Keith, listen to him, calm down old boy!"
Keith is hilarious!! He takes the posh out of de-glazing; "Rinsing the pan out with wine"
Keith really did project cooking into a glamorous rock and roll kinda way of life.... He is an absolute institution and should never be forgotten
I always wanted to try an oxtail ever since I first saw this decades ago.
Unfortunately ox tail isnt cheap anymore and you have to pay for stock bones now too 😢
Keith Floyd is/was the man, best and coolest TV chef ever.
Both gone now & sadly missed but still I come looking for inspiration thanks for the memories

Two of my favourite TV Chefs. Really sad news, 59 is no age. RIP Gary.
I'm pretty sure that 59 actually IS an age.
Who has told you that there's no such age as 59? They should be flogged at the New Palace Yard.
5:46 Floyd just being the awesomely hilarious guy I always loved haha!!

Before all of his TV fame, Ramsey was booed off stage at the Catey awards. Gives a bad name to chefs.
tony naylor
I bloody love the man, but not sure Floyd was always polite!!
Two amazing sadly departed chefs. I loved there food
Gary, man. Always loved that smile.

I always used to get Garry Rhodes mixed up with that similarly spiky head character who played the violin.
