I went into Madoka Magica expecting a magical girl anime. I came out crying and confused why the world is the way it is.
If you learn about history and physics, you'll know almost everything about why the world is the way it is.

I remember seeing this at the AMV contest at Anime Expo this year. It didn't make it as a finalist - it was just there in the beginning playing before the contest started. I remember thinking "HOW THE FUCK DID THIS NOT MAKE IT?!?!"
Totally should've had a spot in the drama category. When I see an AMV that I get lost in and forget that I'm watching an AMV, then it's something great. When I watch this, I kinda forget I'm at home on my computer lol.

I had seen cover photos of this anime around. Thought I would definitely never watch it cause it looked like it was for young girls. Came across it one day and it said "Themes: Psychological Thriller, Death, Tragedy." 4 hours later I had had one of the best anime experiences to date. I keep recommending it to people but nobody wants to give it a chance cause of the childish appearance, and I don't want to spoil it to get them interested... Oh well, their loss.

My favorite AMVs creator used to use this anime a lot in their collab video, and their taste was pretty much just like me so I kept debating myself whether I should try it. I didn't care about childish design, the only reason I didn't watch it was because there were only girls in the anime (Kyosuke didn't show up in those AMVs). I remember myself thinking if this was some yuri-bait, and "No matter how angsty it is, what could you possibly do with just 5 girls?"

I know this a late comment on this thread, but I would recommend the first season of GunslingerGirl if you haven't seen it. On the surface, a girls with guns shoot ' em up, an early showing of the girl assassins trope, but much more in depth than Kite or Mezzo. Actually it is a treatise on what it is to be human and to be humane, with excellent writing, beautiful animation, and realistic characters. The first season is the best, and stands alone very well. The 2nd season and the OVA are ok, but some of the original magic and pathos is lost from the first season. I'd recommend watching the first 2 episodes back to back...they seem identical, but the Point of View shift is worth it. A real Classic, on par with Ghost in the Shell, BeBop, AoT, Full Metal Alchemist, or Black Lagoon. One of the best anime of the early 2000s, and the 2nd anime I ever bought.

I can see the AMV making the anime seen extremely depressing and it is working. Just that since I already know how the anime goes, it kinda confused me at first. From when Charlotte goes back to her Witch form, I just thought of the positives of that moment in the movie but when ignoring that and focusing on this as if I never watched Madoka before, it does seem pretty dark.

I used to hold off watching Madoka Magica because it's magical girls and I'm not into that, but it wasn't what I expected, and now one of my all-time favorites! The art/animation and psychological factor of the story, including the sequel Rebellion...great now I need to re-watch it.

Got the creeps at the end. Beautiful imagery and video editing, great selection of anime. On the flip side, to me, it lacked a coherent message. There was a buildup- my shivers are enough evidence- but there wasn't much of a story or sequence to emotionally involve myself in. Great potential, great skills, kudos~
You should watch the anime cause you might definitely find that message.

Yeah Shaft is probably my favorite Studio out i enjoy their style,most of their series and the art and animation is fucking perfect.
Frodo the Wizard of the Force There really isn't another studio(or rather another director) with a style quite like Shaft and Akiyuki Shinbo, whose their go-to guy for pretty much everything.

i think a new Season ( dont know if it will be a Stand allone with new charakter or it will continue the Story of Madoka and Homura) and more Movies.But one think is for sure. A new movie will come this year (2015).
