This scene was actually the one gig I did extra work on in 2001 after moving to LA. That's me just right of center with the green shirt and blonde hair holding a cup of (non-alcoholic) beer. It was a good time even though the shoots were long overnight ones Saturday and Sunday night and the mosquitos were in full attack mode. It's awesome to have that moment captured for posterity in this scene. I made the mistake of seeing this very racy movie in the theater with my mom when she was visiting me in LA. Awkward! lmao
Sean Bateman's entrance is fucking perfect! This is his best role in my opinion. 2:28 "Rock and Roll." I remember saying this line so many times after I saw it, lol! What a dork I am.
you are so good at making movies. I have no idea why you haven't made or been given the chance to make so many more. many think this, it comes up in conversation all the time.
Yes it´s very strange it´s not on the soundtrack, it gives a very specific atmosphere that is definitely a plus to the scene, i think it´s a very important song i wonder why they forgot to list it on the credits, anyways thank u Braincloud!!!
Burning Man '02: $250 7 days long Burning Man '22: $2500 My ex co-worker was a lifelong "Burner" and the head of her chapter within the Burning Man community representing the Midwest region. She would host weekly seminars about what it is, why you should go, and how it creates spiritual progress. Basically acting as an escape from the mundane lifestyle plagued by a routine life.
Yeah, me too. I read a bit about Bret Easton Ellis' alma mater, Bennington College, and there is a place there that the students call the "end of the world." I thought it was referencing that.
I love Paul's character so much. He's so dry, witty, and morbid. And this scene is hysterical; every time I see it. Just this over-charged horny dude. Like, chill tf out, bro. 1:49 It kills me every time. Ahahaha and because this isn't suggestive or anything 2:07
I love that they added that in. I still remember I saw this when it was released and I was working at the theater at the time. Even after I saw the entire movie, I would walk in when I was working as an Usher just to catch the movie because I loved it so much. Once I walked in when he was doing that and heard everyone laughing, lol!! Paul was indeed one of my favorite characters. *"Totally bi."*
He drives off with the burning man head... 🤣🤣 I snuck my two younger friends into the theatre to see this - and since that was the first rape scene she ever saw - and didn’t get the humor in this film - cried the entire way home. Still a favorite cinematography wise shot brilliantly staged so creatively - since I went to back to grad school this was on my holiday list..... And that is a great fucking story about this scene....
Am looking for the other song played during the scene, something with a techno bad ass vibe. Doesn't seem to be the Rapture song. Any idea? Song comes in towards the end of the scene. Thanx
+Ronna Jade I call that piece "Gotta Be On You" by tomandandy, or rather one of the contributing artists on their label, Atomcandy. It was composed for the film.
When I saw this opening night, I could have SWORN they played Underworld's "Bruce Lee" during this scene. When it arrived on DVD, the music was changed. The music on Victor's montage seemed different too.
The whole point of the film is that nobody know`s anybody on a deep level. And as in the other Bret Easton Ellis film adaptations it`s core is about the narcissism in some sub cultures of the upper classes. A shallow and decadent culture, that numbs their anxiety for needing to face up to work for their privileges with drugs, alcohol, sex. And not far into the future ( this was the early 2000s), it`s going to be even more shallow with social media.
..... are you serious? Did you watch the movie? There are many "dream" shots where we see what a character imagines. That was not an editing mistake. Internally, he was screaming at the chick for interrupting his rizz. Your comment is silly.
This movie had such cool music
Somerhalder is insanely attractive.
Ex makina ,Candice in this movie looks like a 1979 Mercury Cougar XR7
It's like he's not real
Is that the blonde girl? Yeah, she's really pretty.
What a movie, I understand more and more that this is a great movie
Franky Albert Seitz I love how she walks out of the woods spitting. 🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
Just thinking the same thing.
Van Der Beek is disturbingly good in this. Met plenty of dudes like that at Uni
The way he looks so pissed off while he's trying to pour a beer from the keg is hilarious.

Is it true you this was filmed on 9/11?
Sean Bateman's entrance is fucking perfect! This is his best role in my opinion. 2:28
"Rock and Roll." I remember saying this line so many times after I saw it, lol! What a dork I am.
Haha so I'm not the only one. It can be used instead of so many things - whatever, I don't give a fuck, don't sweat it...
He looks completely paranoid.
Rock and Roll
this movie is essentially an exploration of the pathologies of attraction...
Hi. The name of the song which plays after the Rapture song is called "Hey Guy" by tomandandy. You can find it at: last.fm/music/tomandandy/_/Hey+Guy
you are so good at making movies. I have no idea why you haven't made or been given the chance to make so many more. many think this, it comes up in conversation all the time.
Great song. Thanks for posting.
Check Wikipedia
I should end more conversations with "rock n roll"
"Totally bi" haha
" Mr Bateman"
Great scene from a great movie.
One of the coolest beginnings to a scene. The Wicker Man, The Rapture, and Ian smoldering.
Yes it´s very strange it´s not on the soundtrack, it gives a very specific atmosphere that is definitely a plus to the scene, i think it´s a very important song i wonder why they forgot to list it on the credits, anyways thank u Braincloud!!!
shake shake shake
"You buy?"
"Totally bi"
"Rock n' roll"
Also, my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw Ian. How can someone be so attractive?
I didn't catch that. Good call. That would explain why Paul thought there was a chance. He was hearing what he wanted to hear.
Girl with the Tomandandy shirt is sooo fine-featured.
Yes. Omg. She is so fine
Probably the hottest girl I've ever seen.
Wow I never noticed the t shirt
Ahh I love the tease! 2:09
Paul: Totally buy/bi.
I see what he did there. 😂 😎
Burning Man '02: $250
7 days long
Burning Man '22: $2500

"He's not ODing. He's a Freshman. Freshmen don't OD."
fav line.
I love this movie so much
The Rapture - Out of the races and onto the tracks
Poor food service girl. Looked like she was gonna finally walk up to Sean but then she bails
I always thought it was "the END of the World party"
Yeah, me too. I read a bit about Bret Easton Ellis' alma mater, Bennington College, and there is a place there that the students call the "end of the world." I thought it was referencing that.
I'm pretty sure it is.
In the book I think it is
I love Paul's character so much. He's so dry, witty, and morbid. And this scene is hysterical; every time I see it. Just this over-charged horny dude. Like, chill tf out, bro. 1:49 It kills me every time. Ahahaha and because this isn't suggestive or anything 2:07

I saw thismovie when I was a kid 18
I'm seeing this film now when I'm 18
Oh *THAT’S* Candice... - That makes a lot more sense now.
I couldn’t quite figure out why Victor mentions/remembered her name....

The remix of TOMANDANDY is epic!
Am looking for the other song played during the scene, something with a techno bad ass vibe. Doesn't seem to be the Rapture song. Any idea? Song comes in towards the end of the scene. Thanx
SOS! WHAT THE SONG ON 2:19 - 3:34
+Ronna Jade I call that piece "Gotta Be On You" by tomandandy, or rather one of the contributing artists on their label, Atomcandy. It was composed for the film.
avary i found this. its tomandandy "Hey guy "
Indeed, you're correct -- it's called "Hey guy", which is Thomas Ian Nicholas' stacked line to Ian Somerhalder.
been looking for that song since 2002
Ronna Jade I believe it’s the star spangled banner. Although I’m not sure
Hilarious 😅😅
They need to do a collaboration movie with Sean Bateman (van der Beek) and Patrick (Christian Bale)????????
1:50 always has me dying laughing
There was that little girl scream that Nina was talking about😂😂😂😂😂
When I saw this opening night, I could have SWORN they played Underworld's "Bruce Lee" during this scene. When it arrived on DVD, the music was changed. The music on Victor's montage seemed different too.
Paul and Candice are so hot 😂
Song at 2:30?
Did Paul and Mitch hook up at some point???
Definitely. But Paul and Candice also probably hooked up.
Does anyone know what song plays in the opening scene of this movie?
Yes, it's by The Rapture and it's called 'Out of the Races and Onto the Track'
I read this was filmed on 9/11
Up until recently I was convinced Somerhalder was really gay, he played it so well. He's so funny in this scene
does anyone know where I can get candice's tomandandy shirt !?
I always wondered what the budget was for this film..
$4.5 million USD in 2002.
Money well spent! Awesome film!
What song is this?
What's up Rudy
1:52damon couldnt keep a low profile
this is what damon did in college
I honestly thought it was rewinding again. What do you call that? The music and what was happening with the burning-man?
Clare Kramer looks good in this movie, she looks like a 1979 Mercury Cougar XR7
That's kinda weird
Theres honestly no one hotter than that girl
Ha ha ha 😂
Funny how unrealistic these college scenes are. They make it seem like everyone knows everyone.
@@Ikaros23 For sure!!!
It's not. The school is based on Bennington where Bret went. Not a huge school. Small and elite
Hahahahahaha 1:49
For some reason, the music stuck with me. I always thought it was a cool touch and a nice choice.
Bret Easton Ellis. Hail! Created these characters. The bi-sexuality of it all is the thrill!!
1:50 Wtf how did this edit get past the director?! Absolutely unacceptable edit. I just checked... it's legit also in my DVD version.
..... are you serious?
Did you watch the movie?
There are many "dream" shots where we see what a character imagines.
That was not an editing mistake. Internally, he was screaming at the chick for interrupting his rizz.
Your comment is silly.
It’s on purpose lol it’s not an accident. Idk how to explain it I figured that was kinda understood
Now e1s gay, dude wouldnt be so desperate.
