    No one forces you to use these services. The fine print is there for all to read. If you choose to use FB or Twitter then you are doing so willingly and there is no one to blame but yourself.
    In this same hearing the Republicans were lamenting about how the tech companies are treating people like they are stupid by putting disclaimers on user posts or censoring some. They argued let the people hear everything. They are smart enough to decide what is true and false, they said. Well, if that's the case, then they should be smart enough to read the user agreements to these platforms and understand the consequences too.

    The Trump Administration in the Republicans have already ignored hundreds of subpoenas that were lawfully processed so you have set a precedent to where anyone can laugh off any subpoena going forward.
    The CEOs are having trouble not laughing at the Senators because they are asking for things that they don't even understand what they are asking for like every mention of Google and RUclips on Facebook would probably be about 15 kazillion Pages he should just go ahead and send it to him

    • @femsplainer
      @femsplainer 3 года назад

      Well the problem with that is you'd basically have to turn social media platforms into Utilities, like they did with the phone companies. That way they would be subject to government oversight and scrutiny at a moments notice, which would hobble their ability to conduct business as it currently stands...what with all the likely illegal data mining going on on their platforms. In any case turning them into a utility would cause a lot of other problems that are too detailed to go into here. They need to be broken up and turned into a proper platform or alternatively turned into a publisher. Either way, the sun is setting on unchecked social media giants and I couldn't be happier.

    • @femsplainer
      @femsplainer 3 года назад +1

      @@SpecialistBR If that was the only factor then I might agree with you. However there are suppressive business practices at play here. Essentially the same business practices that caused Microsoft to be broken up. Namely that they FORCE phones to have FB and GMail and other software installed into the phone and make it so you CANNOT uninstall them. Meanwhile, the app is also spying on your activities in other apps even if you NEVER USE FB ON YOUR PHONE. This isn't tinfoil hat it's real and there is an active bipartisan lawsuit by Congress against Google that is making it's way through the courts right now!.
      This is not merely an organic monopoly, they have actively suppressed other platforms through their predatory and illegal business practices.
      Since Microsoft set the precedent on this for digital media, they're almost certainly going to lose in court because it is almost identical to what they used to do with the Windows suppressing Netscape by making everything use IE by default.
