I’ve done a 2 liter and the 1 liter. What I’ve learned the barrel needs to be seasoned by leaving a bourbon in for a month and drain it and try another high proof bourbon. It helps take that oaky flavor out. The 1 liter is soo Oaky. I think a larger barrel helps keeping it from getting over oaked. I want to try leaving water in it for a month or more and drain it to see if I can get better results, but so far I have not found it to be all that great. But, spirals do…try spirals in a jar with a coffee filter top. That’s good..👍🏼

I'm watching with interest because I got a 2L barrel for Christmas and am looking forward to trying some aging myself. One thing your video made me think of though, is about comparing what you put in the barrel with a fresh bottle, especially with a single barrel product. The differences in taste might be due to variations in the bottles rather than just due to the aging.
Made me think I should first mix (say 2.5L) whatever I am going to barrel, then put 2L in the barrel and reserve the remaining .5L to do my comparisons with so I am comparing the exact same thing aged and unaged. What do you think?

I think you have a sound plan.
It will help season the barrel.

      I forgot too say.
The store I bought the four Russell's Reserve Single Barrel bottles.
Have all the exact same date and time on the bottom.
Their one left on the shelf at the Store.
But that's what made me super geared too do this barrel, that and I've always wonder what would change in the end.
      Thanks for watching 🤓 ✌
