I'm surprised that this cantata is not more widely celebrated. The counterpoint of the first movement is exquisite; for instance, take the first three measures. Bach opens by having the first oboe and violin introduce the theme and repeats the theme in stretto in the second oboe and violin. Bach continues the stretto in the continuo while simultaneously having the viola play an inverted form of the theme! Later, when the chorus first comes in, the soprano sings an augmented form of the theme. Tons of other contrapunctal techniques here too that utilize the musical material so efficiently and perfectly.
The bass string player doesn't understand that in a secco recitative, he's not supposed to sustain the notes for their full time value. This is an historically uninformed performance. The conductor and the performers are clueless about Baroque performance practice
@@herrickinman9303 I don't mind, there are enough more historically ''correct'' performances and recordings. I like this one, because it enforces the ''Sünden Wust''!

Wow, that first recitative with all those dissonants is astonishing!!

is the organ equipped with an extremely irritating tremulant or does the cellist have parkinson's disease?
Interesting hot take
