Same thing happened to me with my E21 got smacked by some lady into a semi basically destroyed the car and left it in similar condition I was super bummed about it didn’t touch the car for about a yr until I decided to buy another one and start the project over it’s ain’t bout how u fall Stache it’s about how quick u get up brother don’t give up cause of one set back I’m still in the process of my build still work on it everyday and the thought of it not running n jsut sitting breaks my heart u got it man. Everything in time

Just got into my first accident in over a decade of driving on 5/27, in my own driveway no less (Ive been driving across the country from Jersey to texas, and even SoCal for years now so its wild I was sitting in my driveway and some guy demolished the front end of my CB7). It was literally one day after I got rid of my e34 in Texas cause I had to move back up to Jersey. I was so gutted, literally couldn't even look at the car for days after it happened and was delaying insurance taking a look cause I know its gonna get written off and ill never see it again. I hope I can find the same peace you did man. Ill keep watching, you seem like a really down to earth dude

Definitely fixable, but I can understand the emotional toll it'll take. It's definitely easy to fall out of love with cars and projects, but that's basically the game, take some time to relax with the bike, thing looks fantastic.

Keep it standard IMO. Little trick : Get a long drill bit and drill a few holes inside the muffler (which can't be seen). It makes it sound deeper and a shade louder, but still looks standard.
She is fixable it’s not as bad as I thought. A good pull on a frame machine and she would be fine. And replace parts and sent it out to get the quarter fixed and painted. You don’t have insurance? Insurance would cover that accident.

Thinking of yourself as just an E34 guy is silly, thinking of yourself as NOT an E34 guy is also equally as silly. You're worrying about the wrong shit. You obviously love the E34 platform, why else have 2 of them, and to the spec that you brought both. Im going through similar stuff with my car (06 E46 M3). I've taken it to a level that's hard to get to by most and I got bit pretty bad with camshaft failure because Schrick and the rest have changed metallurgy on the cams and they are now much softer which forces you to buy followers which in turn makes the mod 4x as expensive. I lost a shit ton of money, since they wont offer warranty, and that's set me back a lot. Not comparable to your loss, but similar in a way i guess. It's forced me to sideline the car. But I'll never stop loving it, its a timeless masterpiece, like most BMWs of the era. Take your time, promise you'll find your way back. Also sick bike purchase, enjoy that.

Man, it is sad to see the 540i in that state, but especially you loosing motivation about cars. If you are a car guy you never leave that passion, it will stay in your heart. Yeah we have low spots and we loose that motivation but the passion you will never be lost . I think you should keep both cars and fix them. It will be hard but the motivation will be back, you just need some time and some support and off you go back . Afterwards, choose the car that you will travel the most. If I was you I would keep the M5 as an investment and the 540i will be the car to never sell. Look at Pizza Mike he crashed his 240sx. It was a total lost but hey still fixed it and continued and his is having his best life. You should ask for some advise from him about your situation, he will help you out. I think you can achieve your dream just needs time and dedication. I think your Ultimate dream is to rebuild the 540i, and travel with it. Don't let the universe decide. I take bad moments and leave them back. When a bad moment happens. AN INCREDIBLE THING IS AROUND THE CORNER. So keep moving forward and rebuild it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bro unfortunatelly it won't pass, i had that feeling for about 2-3 years when someone stole my e34 m5, then some personal stuff came out and some problems aswell. I figure out same thing you did, i will travel, have a regular car and will have fun, but sorry bro its not that easy. After couple months you will be bored as me and will try some new shit. Feel sorry for your 540i but u still have that m5 that is in my opinion way cooler then that 540i, take some time to heal up, maybe travel and go back in the game bro.
The car market is dog water these days if you're not super wealthy, anything remotely cool is expensive and i see why you're tired of them. The bike life is a treat, with double the fun at a fraction of the cost, especially if you go for older bikes, which are just as fun if not more visceral. As a classic bike owner and enthusiast i rlly look forward to some bike content. Rip 540 tho, shit
F you and Ish inspired me to get an E34. My e34 got wrecked too. I got rear ended buy a guy doing 90 on the highway. He was weaving and cutting lanes. When he hit me, my car actually flipped and rolled over a few times. I walked away with just a few cuts and bruises. 🙏🏾
