Hey Marbin! I want to thank you for these videos. My dream is to study in the USA and being clear to study at Berklee, I am not in a difficult situation but well... I don't have the economic possibility of being there. Still, I want you to know that you are helping this guy ("Me" xd) who lives in a small town in Mexico to play jazz in a better way. I know that your videos are hard for you to make and I really thank you for being a great teacher, you are the closest I will ever be to the USA but I appreciate your existence on this platform. I promise I'm taking advantage of every word and every lesson. ;)
@@michaeljames190e*A xenophobe appears* Being a fascist greengo seems to be more interesting than studying your shitty metal music. And yes, I gave myself the opportunity to be just like you:)
This is genuinely the best video/teacher I have ever seen possibly in general. I have worked with quite a few people from major conservatories like MSM and Juilliard but you are doing a far better job at explaining this than the vast majority of professors (don't want to knock all the profs there or the institutions in general. you can get an incredible education but have to be picky about who you choose to learn from and politely avoid the hack profs some of whom are fantastic players but imo bad teachers). Thank you for the clarity and just how easy you make all of this to learn. It genuinely feels easy compared to so many times I have sat down with a harmony teacher and they start trying to explain and somehow it makes my ability worse.
Gotta say, you've been posting the most digestible and understandable lesson videos, and they've been extremely helpful. Some of this stuff I had learned years ago but never sat and truly understood, some I had never learned, and some was just implicit ability and not explicit knowledge. I hope you keep on posting the things you do and making the music you do. Thanks for being awesome, knowledgeable, and hilarious. I'll be a twinkle-twinkle connoisseur in no time 👌
Wow, took some years on diving in RUclips to find you. Perhaps that was I'm not really a jazz dude, playing wise. More like hard rock. You blow me away, I'm addicted! Thank you Dani!!!
very keen to get faded and watch this and then go n muck around with this. i’ve tried learning secondary subs before but you just condense information so clear and simply. all the while being able to help us students retain this sort of semi sophisticated stuff really well, ur much better than most guitar creators. thank you heaps man
These last two videos have been as eye opening as the first time I learned diatonic harmony!! I hope you do more of this for other genres too(I'd have saved $89,765.098 by then). Waiting for the next one!
REally nice , i follow the chanel since one week , good to me i feel stupid and hungry now ! Thanks a lot the quality of every information , is gold . I buy a book note and a pen today what happen !? i m growing ? hehe
I like this channel because the titles and thumbnails are ridiculous clickbait irony but the content can only be truly understood by gigabrained intellectuals like Dani and I.
I think Guthrie Govan said he was blown away by how many guitarist he met who absolutely could not play simple melodies like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on command! They could play all sorts of amazing technical things, but Twinkle Twinkle Little Star baffled them. Funny thought, but I skipped learning that song when I was first taking lessons, and now I'm a failure! Remember kids, listen to your guitar teacher! Don't be like me! 🤣
Where would you use this in a blues (non jazz blues) and how much/little to still be tasteful? I suppose that’s a matter of taste, but what would you recommend? Also, to ensure I have it right, in C the secondary dominant of the IV is G7 and of the V is A7? And of C is D7?
As I used to front an AC/DC covers band, a lot of that is wasted on me, however it is interesting, as I have a music theory section on a music App I have developed, which is free and allows you to visualise this kind of thing, good video.
Man, watching these makes me realize how bad all my “teachers” were! If only one of them could’ve explained any of this…or knew this stuff…with their music degrees.
Thanks for the excellent videos ! But the slower you go, the easier it is for us. One idea per video, worked out carefully -- less is more. Video 1: Basic I-IV-V changes Video 2: Diatonic substitutions (vi for I, etc) Video 3: Secondary dominants with basic changes Video 4: Secondary dominants with diatonic substitutions Video 5: Tritone subs Video 6: Tritone subs with secondary dominants Video 7: Everything so far Video 8: Scales for basic changes ...
Now I want you to crank the gain to 10 and see how it sounds lol. Think about it...metal stuff is mostly just power chords (root fifth) blown out with intense distortion You cannot do that with all this complex harmony.
Yes the reason you can teach it in 10 minutes, is because they have you write out 1 cadence in 12 keys in standard notation showing the guide tone movement. That task takes about a week , it is possible to write it out without even playing it on an instrument. You are PLAYING the harmony examples in a row without pause . Another example is Cesario Filho playing the Hot Licks video examples all in a row up to speed . The 2 hr video in 2 minutes

These past two videos have been some of the best you’ve done. Great job
Completely agree. Fantastic. (And I went to Berklee dammit).

I don't know if it's on purpose but it makes me chuckle when you point to where a video is supposed to be and it isn't there.
It’s hilarious 😂
Waiting for the next episode. You really nailed it, man. ❤🎉
You keep on adding great videos, don't know how you do it but please don't stop doing it!
Thank you so much for giving this to us!
My mind is blown. Berklee called me, they are in shambles.
Seriously though, these videos are absolutely killer. This channel gonna blow up.
Vienna Conservatorium of Music also upset. Where will it end?

only good thing in this video 😂
This is great stuff. Really well explained too. Love it!
Excellent video! I just put my Berkeley application in the shredder. Saved me tens of thousands of dollars. Thanks. Seriously great video.

This Guy is one of the best teachers on RUclips ......Excellent work Mr Marbin !!! 🙏
love this berklee series
Great explanation!!
This was great. I’m just trying to master II-Vs, but it’s good to have a roadmap to greater complexity. Cheers.

We're not in Kansas anymore!
Fuck yeah I’m totally coming to see you play in Des Moines
These last two videos are incredible. I’ve been playing for 30 years but never was exposed to this material.
Grateful 🙏

my dude has a gypsy guitar! nothing out there sounds better!
Very Cool Thank you
Marbin can really play all the harmony on guitar . Where as Rick Beato tries to show on guitar or piano, yet he is really a Violin Cello player

if you play V/viidim does the guitar explode

4:56 you're missing that video link you pointed toward
Turns out you can only have one link to a vid per video. Link is earlier in the vid and in the description.

You can arpeggiate the complex harmony which is how they use it with distortion
lol obviously you are stuck in the 80s or the 90s in your metal knowledge.
@@nachodaisuki91 100%. Not interested in that goo at all.
C'mon dude. As a Berklee grad...you only provided a small taste of 2nd year harmony material. Otherwise, great stuff ;).
