- The future of controlled depth fishing is HERE with the new Bluetooth-enabled Cannon Optimum downrigger. Extensively tested by fishing professionals from the Atlantic to the Gulf, Great Lakes and the Pacific north to Alaska, the Cannon Optimum has earned it's stripes. By simply adding the optional transducer the Optimum's internal depthsounder is enabled and this opens up a suite of other functions. Not only does the transducer enable Bottom Tracking but the Optimum also features a full color depthsounder on the units' display. Join Cannon Pro and 710ESPN Seattle Radio host Tom Nelson aboard his boat for a rundown of the basic Bottom Tracking functions that allow this new, innovative and unprecedented level of downrigger convience and control!
Why is there no information on installing the transducer for the cannon optimum down rigger?
One thought I had was how do you suggest you adjust your drag on your reel? Typically we set ours to reflect a strike once it pops off the clip. However if you are in bottom track mode wouldn’t the possibility of going over a ledge or a pinnacle where your downrigger may drop depth and either pop off the downrigger clip or you have your drag adjusted so lose that you lose a fish on the hookup? That is my only real concern. I think the cycling option and bottom tracking are potential game changers fishing kings.
Yeah and wouldn’t you have a whole bunch of slack line if it pulled up?
Guys it looks great but you should explain it all slowly so one has a chance to grasp it all!
Do I need to install the downrigger transducer if I am linked to my Helix 12? The transducer from my Helix 12 will be the transducer for my Cannon as well, right? If I use bottom tracking, would I have to install the downrigger transducer?
Mike, I am setting up a new boat and have the same question. Can I use the Transducer from a Helix 7 G4N to run the Cannon Optimum (bottom tracking). Or do you have to use the Cannon Optimum separate Transducer? What did you find out?
@@martinhunt4894 Make sure your H7 and Optimum has the latest software updates. You should be able to use the ducer from your H7 for the Optimum via Bluetooth so you don't need the Optimum ducer.
@@mikekenner9218 Thanks for the response Mike, That is what I thought also but I contacted Humminbird Tech Support (twice) both Techs said the Helix 7 G4N will not allow the Optimum to run off the Helix 7 Transducer even with the most up to date software. They stated I would need to go to a Helix 8 G4N and above to use only the Helix transducer and not use the Cannon transducer. They stated software in the H8 and above is different than the H7 and it is not just a screen size difference. Now if I can just find a unit, as Humminbird is way behind on production. Thanks again.
@@martinhunt4894 That could be so. I use a Helix 10 G4N to connect mine. I am selling a gently used Helix 12 G2N that I use to use. That will also connect to the Optimum's via Bluetooth. If you're interested, let me know.
I have a helix 10 and the downriver is not working with it. Sometimes it goes to the bottom but starts coming up a couple of feet at a time, never stays at depth. I have bought the transducer, but can I mount it next to my helix 10 and not have any interference @@mikekenner9218
