"Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for either a source of parts, which can be sold for re-use, or for the extraction of raw materials, chiefly scrap. It may also be known as ship dismantling, ship cracking, ship recycling, or ship disposal." - Wikipedia. She is saying, "Should I stay where my boat has broken," as a way of asking if she should hold on to what's left and continue with her life although she is so broken-hearted and it would hurt to live any longer. Then, in saying, "Or shall I lie with death my bride," she is basically asking about her other choice--should she just give up and die? Hope that helps. :)
Hi. Breakers are waves that "break" apart, as when they crash on the rocks. "With death my bride" is an inversion of the word order in the sentence: should I accept that death is my bride, and lie with her.
marianitacajal86 Yeah I know it me to. It was a horrible death he never should have died, Mr. Harvey was a wonderful man & great human being. I cried to.
Funny fact about this song: Tim Buckley wrote the song and performed it on the very last episode of the Monkees TV series in 1968. The funny part is the original lyrics were "I am puzzled as the Oyster." On a later album, Tim changed the lyric to "puzzled as a new born," and I'm glad he changed it. I like both Tim's version and the Mortal Coil version. In Tim's version, he plays an acoustic guitar and it sounds really great. I think Tim's version is memorable for the great guitar playing, the Mortal Coil version is memorable for the haunting vocal.
I just can't listen to this song without crying, such a soul moving piece. Thank you for taking the time to help with the lyrics, I thought they were accurate, however if anyone can make constructive corrections, I am sure we all would appreciate it.
"Long afloat on shipless oceans I did all my best to smile 'til your singing eyes and fingers Drew me loving to your isle And you sang: "Sail to me Sail to me Let me enfold you Here I am Here I am Waiting to hold you" Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you hare when I was fox? Now my foolish boat is leaning Broken lovelorn on your rocks For you sing: "Touch me not Touch me not Come back tomorrow O my heart O my heart Shies from the sorrow" I am puzzled as the oyster I am troubled as the tide: Should I stand amid your breakers? Should I lie with death, my bride? Hear me sing: "Swim to me Swim to me Let me enfold you Here I am Here I am Waiting to hold you" Larry Beckett
There's such a weird theme to this song, mostly because I remember it playing when Susie gets to heaven I like to imagine that's how heaven welcomes people.. I fear I will die before doing so many things I long to do, I hope it doesn't happen but if it does, I picture Jesus stretching out his arms at me and all I would feel is joy and happiness enough to let go of what I wasn't able to do and be happy with all the good memories while I lived.
My mum wanted this for my papas funeral, we chose so many stunning songs but she got another one by her by mistake (we also had teardrop with massive attack). She said to save it for hers... I can't imagine hearing this after loosing her 😢 love my mum more than I could ever express. I've lost so many, she's my reason to keep going.

My Mum used to sing me this when I was just a baby and I often get memories even if it was 12 years ago 😭 makes me cry everytime and it scares me to know we are here for a moment then we are gone and there's no going back ❤😭
David Lynch sent me here. I had to come to this version (lyrics) because I am not familiar with the song. David was right when he said: "Elizabeth Fraser just does this thing so beautifully". I am floating. She calls me.
I just watched lovely bones recently and I was wondering why this song keep staying with me constantly. I just found out my brother passed away weeks ago. I’m devastated 😢words can’t contain my sorrow I have. I want to sing this at his memorial. He deserves that and so much more. I loved him I’m completely beside myself. This song gives me solace.
One of the coolest movies that this song is in is," LOST HIGHWAY". The scene is a young Patricia Arquette making love in the sand, I wont spoil the film for you guys, but it is a cool movie. check it out sometime. I love this song! Second best scene it is in, is in the film "CANDY" with Heath Ledger and Abby Cornish. It is by a different singer, but a very nice cover. RIP Heath Ledger. Love, Pia
It's so annoying that the scene at the end of Lovely Bones gets me emotional because of the power of this song put together with what's happening. I'm afraid to watch it with others because I probably wouldn't be able to hold it together.
I miss you so much, our son misses his Dada and looks for you 😔 My eternal I love you Ben, I will always love you. Until we meet again. Forever yours 🌹
This was the only version of this song that I had heard until I recently listened to Tim Buckley's own version. I Iove them both, and Robert Plant's. I'm not usually fond of frills and embellishments in music but I think that This Mortal Coil's interpretation is beautiful and haunting.

I hate being "that person" but Lost Highway came before The Lovely Bones. Geez, that scene...in spite of his questionable decisions, it was hard not to feel for Pete - "Why me, Alice? Why choose me? I want you..." "You'll _never_ have me."
I can't describe the feeling this song gives me...it's indescribable.
This is haunting

The saddest scene, when he rolling that box and the song was playing and the scene was in slow motion
