      This is haunting
      And We hunt
We search, We find, we’re lost and found
      And given goosebumps
      And give shivers
      This is the quest
      Or request?🤷🏼‍♀️

+журналист I don't speak english from mothertong, so I don't understan precisly this part:
"Should I stand amid the breakers" means that she is questioning if she should reamain with the other attacked women?
And then "Shall lie with death my bride" I just don't get it, can you please explain? sorry to bother

    • @themorbidhunger
      @themorbidhunger 8 лет назад +17

"Ship breaking or ship demolition is a type of ship disposal involving the breaking up of ships for either a source of parts, which can be sold for re-use, or for the extraction of raw materials, chiefly scrap. It may also be known as ship dismantling, ship cracking, ship recycling, or ship disposal." - Wikipedia.
She is saying, "Should I stay where my boat has broken," as a way of asking if she should hold on to what's left and continue with her life although she is so broken-hearted and it would hurt to live any longer.
Then, in saying, "Or shall I lie with death my bride," she is basically asking about her other choice--should she just give up and die?
      Hope that helps. :)

Hi. Breakers are waves that "break" apart, as when they crash on the
rocks. "With death my bride" is an inversion of the word order in the
sentence: should I accept that death is my bride, and lie with her.

Funny fact about this song: Tim Buckley wrote the song and performed it on the very last episode of the Monkees TV series in 1968. The funny part is the original lyrics were "I am puzzled as the Oyster." On a later album, Tim changed the lyric to "puzzled as a new born," and I'm glad he changed it. I like both Tim's version and the Mortal Coil version. In Tim's version, he plays an acoustic guitar and it sounds really great. I think Tim's version is memorable for the great guitar playing, the Mortal Coil version is memorable for the haunting vocal.

    "Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
    And you sang:
    "Sail to me
    Sail to me
    Let me enfold you
    Here I am
    Here I am
    Waiting to hold you"
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
    Broken lovelorn on your rocks
    For you sing:
    "Touch me not
    Touch me not
    Come back tomorrow
    O my heart
    O my heart
    Shies from the sorrow"
I am puzzled as the oyster
I am troubled as the tide:
Should I stand amid your breakers?
Should I lie with death, my bride?
    Hear me sing:
    "Swim to me

There's such a weird theme to this song, mostly because I remember it playing when Susie gets to heaven I like to imagine that's how heaven welcomes people.. I fear I will die before doing so many things I long to do, I hope it doesn't happen but if it does, I picture Jesus stretching out his arms at me and all I would feel is joy and happiness enough to let go of what I wasn't able to do and be happy with all the good memories while I lived.

The scene is a young Patricia Arquette making love in the sand, I wont spoil the film for you guys, but it is a cool movie. check it out sometime. I love this song! Fell in love with this when I first heard it years ago and I'm a Tim Buckley fan. This is one of those wonderful instances where a cover version stands shoulder to shoulder with the original, bringing its own ethereal, haunting magic woven into a sensitive and incredible interpretation.
As for the original studio cut by Tim Buckley, I love that too, but of his versions, the live one with just him and a twelve string acoustic guitar is as magical as this.

Loneliness hurts. 35 an I'm still waiting for her. It's like trying to catch the wind.

Lost highway David Lynch made this other worldly dreamlike love love it!

He wanted to use it in Blue Velvet, but it was too expensive after the budget was cut from $10M to $4M. He wrote lyrics, Angelo Badalamenti did the music, Julee Cruise the vocals. They also did the dreamy ethereal Twin Peaks music. If you like Lynch, read his book Room to Dream.

" drew me loving to your isle" makes more sense. In keeping with nautical theme and doesn't repeat 'eye'. can't be bothered to Google which is correct though.

Isle is correct (Tim Buckley wrote the song and he clearly sings "isle")

The Flying Squirrels also I think it's were you Hare when I was fox and not were you here when I was for sail. quite a few words have changed. I was puzzled as an oyster not small child. oh well I still love this version very atmospheric

One of my most favorite lines is “did I dream you dreamed as bout me?
Were you here when I was as Flotsam”
So poetic (although the said full sail and not flotsam)
Fun side note. That’s rhetorical name of the eels in little mermaid (flotsam and jetsam)

Can you believe that this singer is also the singer/songwriter of massive attack's "teardrop". I just found out after playing this song 20 times in a row and wanted to know who she is. Wow...

I hate being "that person" but Lost Highway came before The Lovely Bones. Geez, that scene...in spite of his questionable decisions, it was hard not to feel for Pete - "Why me, Alice? Why choose me? I want you..." "You'll _never_ have me."
