Hello, Fred! " Flight Of The Doves " has certain characteristics typical of the early 70s. It is a " cousin " of " God Bless And Children " in its subject and also carries touches of the " flower power " present in both the scores and pop music of the time ( " Renaissance " for example ), combining soft/ emotional songs with orchestra. Budd, at beginning of his short film career ( which would last until 1987, just over five years before his death at age 46 ), offers a true spectacle here, uniting the aforementioned characteristics ( the main theme with variations and rhythm section ), with splendid themes for strings ( the spicatto of " Here Comes the Hawk " certainly influenced the intro of " The Well Of The Souls " to " Raiders Of The Lost Ark ", in addition to " Doves in Flight ", a combinating of melodic percussion and magnificent spicatto), Irish folk ( chant and strings) and " Hawk On The Hunt "( all written for lower piano regions )!... Bringing back the forgotten score is a formidable rescue! Thanks and bye!!

My father owned a really nice movie theatre in the 60s-80s where I developed a love of film music. And yet, somehow, this film completely eluded me. I can still hear Budd's Sinbad score just from the numerous viewings in the theatre (I would have been six years old, but practically lived at the theatre), but I was completely unaware of this music. Thank you!

“Flight Of The Doves” (1971) is a movie about two orphan boys, who are trying to flee their uncle, a master of disguise, through Ireland. The evil uncle Hawk (Robert Moody) and orphan Finn Dove (Jack Wild) worked before successfully on “Oliver!” (1968) and give an encore on “Doves”.
Musical accompaniment was provided by Roy Budd, who wrote a lovely lighthearted score with much of “Irlandaise” to it. Especially the song “The Far Off Place”, sung by Dana, is worth mentioning. Enjoy!

Such a great melodious score by Roy Budd. Love his music especially The Wild Geese and Sinbad And The Eye Of The Tiger.
