The answer is they are not Brahmins, and in the first place they stole this music art from the Tamils and renamed it and wrote as usual fake story or purana on it's origin.

Also, do you think Chowdiah, Valayapatti Subramanyam, Sheik Chinna Moulana were any less great because they were non-Brahmins? It is a pity that you listen to music from a casteist perspective.
