In many Asian and African cultures, when someone struggles with mental health, the response is often spiritual, like exorcisms, rather than addressing the root cause or seeking professional help. It’s unfortunate, and even today, there’s work to be done. I watched this in July 2024 when it re-released in India but cried a day later. and cried for weeks. It took me 4-5 weeks to snap out of it. I feel so much for Qais, so so so so much man. It hurts. It hurts on a personal level.
I loved how they portrayed the process of Qais going "crazy" in love while addressing his mental health. Although, I was quite angry about how they didn’t help him the way they should have-he literally needed proper therapy. But as audience, we got to see him as a patient rather than just a person losing himself in love. As a psychology student, I was really invested in his character, noticing all the symptoms he displayed and the things that triggered him. I cried after finishing the movie and again after processing the pain he went through. Maybe we could have saved him. I also loved the storytelling of the movie itself. How the second half was called Majnu (crazy)-that’s when Qais Bhat truly became Majnu for his Laila.
Avinash Tiwary is a brilliant actor and the most underrated one out there. I remember watching this movie back in 2018, there were hardly 10 people in the theatre. I stalked the heck out of him on social media and watched everything he's been a part of. I was traumatised for almost 6 months. His acting really had that impact on me.

He was in love with a girl nd her parents forced her to marry another guy nd he lost his mind nd kept wandering in the streets for years calling her name nd telling people about her nd how beautiful she was nd how much he loved her until he passed away .. This movie reminds me of that guy nd how much pain he went through 😢
I read Nizami's "Majnoon and Laila" many times. I even wrote my novel, my own adaptation of the story. Thus I didn't want to watch this movie. But, when I saw you reacted on it I decided to watch it. It's sad above any expectations I had. If it can be said, your reaction is great as always.
And qais keep showing signs of depression every time hes somewhst rejected by laila... He keeps understanding that having laila in reality is next to impossible. Qais, who had been waiting for her for years, feels that he will never be united with her and this thought makes him eccentric.
I am so glad you understand the character writing and its nuances so well for the most part and appreciate the work put in it as well whether it be direction, acting, music etc. I want more people to watch this movie and understand qais bhatt's character so i often look for reactions online but there are usually none so i am glad i found yours.
