    I visualised such development and mentioned it in my TeDx talk at DBATU in March 2020. There is huge potential in the field and this is just one example that has been showcased, certain that the use case will expand alongside price reduction to mainstream the products

    Swarovski , Zeiss and Leica need to do the inevitable and get image stabilisation in their binoculars.

    Don’t get too excited. I tested this at RSPB Bempton today and it identified a wood pigeon as a spectacled warbler lol. Lots of bugs so best wait a year for the fixes to be done.

    Does the auto focus work in video mode? The lack of reticle would suggest it deactivates the moment you change from stills to video :O

    Interesting concept, only ever been attempted by cheapo manufacturers before, so this should be miles better. Let's see what folk think of the ID feature but I always worry about trusting instant ID decisions, as sometimes one needs to consider the (hopefully photographic) evidence carefully to get it right. Also like to see how it does on whales & dolphins...😉

    I am a Merlin user, it is not perfect. You need to a check that the bird it records is the bird you saw. It will improve over time. Love the binoculars, very tempted.

    Interesting technology. Looking at the process for acquiring an image for identification this will probably not work or at best struggle to work when a bird is flying or constantly moving as you need to keep the target in the circle and focused while the system is analyzing.

    For US$5,000 I think I will wait as I already have a camera, lenses, bins, scope, etc for birding. There is not enough detail specs in the info give by this video or Swaroski's site to convince me to jump onto this tech. I too started with early digital tech years ago and basically have learn not to jump onto first gen technology. Often it is over marketed and limited. So ya'll go ahead if you want to. If I live long enough and the AI tools are more reliable (for ID, Low light conditions, BIF tracking) I might upgrade my existing Nikon and Swarovski gear(bins & Scope). Sorry but am concerned that some will think this is the answer.

    Charging dock with an USB a while the whole world is going to USB c? Bummer . 4600 euros for a tool for “beginners”, serious? That is not a hobby starter price. And at least: men what a bulky system for a 10x32 bino…… this is a huge miss in my opinion.

    • @cannibalholocaust3015
      @cannibalholocaust3015 5 месяцев назад

      I doubt people who can afford them would be too bothered.
      The bulk is unavoidable as they’ve crammed the electronics in wherever they can. I commend them for launching a product that is very niche but potentially incredible.

    I think the identification software is a complete waste of complexity, because if you spend 500+ quids in a binocular (let alone 5k) you already know what you are doing. Still, I'd easily pay 1k for a much simpler concept: just a 10×32 binocular with an integrated camera to have a proof of my sightings.

    Skip to 8:06 if you don’t want to waste time. See below for feedback.
    7 mins in and they’re explaining IPD / diopter like you would to a first time binocular user. Know your audience please, we own high end gear already. Get to the point and how the tech works and all the features. Hate to be negative but it’s exciting tech that people want to see demonstrated.

      @swarovskioptiknature  6 месяцев назад

      Hi @Pengranger, thank you for your comment. The battery charger has a Micro-USB plug.
      The provided USB cable has a Micro-USB connector (for the charger) on one side and a USB-A connector on the other end.
      SWAROVSKI OPTIK does not provide a USB-A wall plug in for this product. Kind regards, the SWAROVSKI OPTIK Social Media Team

  • @rickicoughlan8299

    This product isn't for serious birders or nature lovers. It's for people who want to live life small or avoid any challenge or any learning or any work to acquire skills. If you're in an unfamiliar location you do your homework using a field guide and maybe researching bird calls on ebird and then, you use your eyes, ears and intelligence to track down the birds and then ID the bird. Once you do this you can store that information in a vastly better computer . . . your brain. This is how we build our skills and how we grow as birders. This is just once again letting AI tech to create a gimmick which steals our joy.
