- Before we start modifying the new to us Porsche 911 996 Turbo I wanted to start going through the car and fixing any little issues I stumbled across. the car seems to have been well taken care of and seems to be ready to be sent. Next up we need to go ahead and start building out custom exhaust for this thing before we go to get tuned. no sense in tuning the car with a different turbo back as pressures and flow will change.

Dude lol ive bren needing to fix my driver side window for 5 months now. Ive just been opening it half way becauee it wont go lower. I havent been wanting to take the door apart in the cold. This has motivated me to just get it done.

Great car! Based on your receipts it’s definitely a good one. All the known issues have been taken care of. I also like how it’s been modded to 2wd.
I would also get rid of the rear wiper. The GT2 didn’t have one. It’s pretty easy to remove and it doesn’t set off a CEL. Bumper plugs makes a nice plug for the exterior and the motor is in the rear shelf.
I myself bought a $400 raceseng alcantara shift knob and I can say without doubt it'll be the best one you buy. Excellent quality and feel!

For the headlights, I have the Xenon versions and they are much better than what you have. They are super bright, self leveling and look much better than the ones you have.

The window tint made a huge difference, just looks way better. To tell you the truth I like the 911 turbo better than the subies. They are
way more classy, and look much better. I have a thing about the subie, but they're not as.cool as a 911 T. Good luck in getting your 911T

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but it's possible that the width of the rear tires is the reason that it's so easy to break it loose. In cases where the car is very light, a narrower tire can net you better grip because there is enough pressure exerted for a given contact patch size to exploit the rubber's Coefficient of friction. Not saying that's the case here, but might be worth asking someone who knows these things before picking a size when you fit fresh rubber. Stock size for a 996 GT2 is 315/30R18. That's 40mm less in the rear overall. Doesn't sound like it would make a huge difference, but it could depending on the scale weight of the rear end.
You should get the Numeric Short Shifter. I got the Numeric Cables when one of mine snapped and it made a huge difference, but apparently their short shifter is great.
I believe it already has it, I know it has some short shifter on it, not too sure on brand though 😅

Dunno if you ever need any aftermarket or factory part but the channels name escapes me now but I know the guys name is Lee C… it might be scrap life or something like that but he has all kinds of great cars and parts. I belief he is on the east coast but I am just trying to to look out for my guy. I love the change up on the car, as long as you stay true and do what you always do. I will never miss any video you make.

Regarding the lights, I've had great success with a site called Headlight Experts, on my 04 Fozzy, my friend's 05 Accord, and my brother's 89 Accord that takes sealed beams. They use legit Philips LEDs, and they have the option to integrate modules that will cancel out the warning lights on the dash or whatever other electrical gremlins they could cause. Super affordable too, all plug n play.
13:34 Oh shit, that's a 5th gen Accord V6! Rare bird these days. I had a black 97 for awhile, used to fuck up this early 00s Sentra SE-R on my way to college on the highway every morning.

@@Smeedia I beat that dude up so regularly he would just right lane it immediately if he saw me after a point. That old 2.7 v6 Accord was no slouch if you knew how to drive, I wanted to manual swap it but the trans needed to be out of a first gen Acura Legend... which was already rare back then.
My buddy used to have an 03 SE-R Spec V that had quite a few mods on it, that car was pretty cool... except he blew 4 engines I think (all warrantied though). It wound up being a design flaw in the factory header, it would suck up debris from I think an integrated cat breaking down or something. He swapped over to an aftermarket header and stopped blowing engines after that. Silly early 00s Nissan...
Look much better with the tint windows.

For headlights, Morimoto and GTR lighting are some of the best. Price wise, they are expensive-ish.
The best ones I have found on Amazon are the Hikari LED'S. They are very bright. I have been using them in my 06 Hawkeye for a few years now with no problems. I also have a 22 kia Forte (gas saver) that I just put Hikari LED'S in also. Price wise, they are around $130-140 ish.
Will check those out, not a bad price either. Thinking either some LEDs or a quality HID set up 🔥
@Smeedia I forgot to mention. If you get the Hikari's and register the warranty, about 2 weeks later, they will send you an email saying that if you write a review on them, they will refund you $30 bucks. It would be nice if I could post pics in the comments. I'd show you how bright they are.
I've had really good luck with Falken tires... the price is right as well.

Loving the 996 content! Don’t rewire the mirror switch-it can be popped out and rotated. For that trim, there are blue clips that hold it in place. I’ll share part numbers for door panel clips below

The foam coming out of your vents is a common problem. There are doors inside the heater box that have foam on them and that foam breaks down with age (as we all do). There are several options on how to deal with it and lots of videos showing the different methods. You will want to tackle it as it will impact the efficiency of your heater and AC and it will make a mess as it continues to fall apart.
Oh, it's got the VAG blend door foam issue. I couldn't find a Porsche how to video, but you basically gotta pull the dash and replace the foam seals on the AC blend doors to get the foam to stop.

Yeah, a lot of people just live with it. Eventually the blend doors get big holes in them that are currently foam filled and your hot/cold control stops working. That's usually the time to fix it 😆

Your mirror button is installed upside down. It will go in both ways and I've done the same thing. Just pop it out and flip it over and all will be good.
You can try and use an LED bulb possible for your headlights that would be interchangable. Otherwise I know there are some projector options out there that may be good, but I haven't seen an comprehensive comparos in performance.
Looking at retrofits for better HID set ups. 😅 I’ve noticed with LEDs, if the projector is not proper it just shotguns light 😅
Yeah it's actually the reflectors that fail on the 996. Just doing the bulb basically does nothing.@@Smeedia

I see you are in WA. Have you ever attended the Redmond Town Center Exotics car shows? They do a great job, and there are always a good selection of Porsches. Every year they have a German weekend, and I've never seen more Porsches in one place other than a Porsche dealer or a Rennsport gathering. You should check it out. Not a lot of 996's show up so yours would be a standout. I have a C4S 996 and I've never seen another one at these events.

For the window regulator you could probably get a lil spacer 3D printed that clips right on and works way better than a zip tie

Are they H7 headlight bulbs? Get a slightly higher wattage with a Xenon or Halogen and pick a Kelvin range that’s brighter white slightly leaning to the blue spectrum and not yellow light. I wouldn’t go LED because of change in resistance and needing to trick sensors with in line resistor hacks. Unless there’s a specific LED kit for the vehicle I would go incandescent 💡
Check or call if diode dynamics has the bulb size for headlights.

I did not, normally I just find one I like at a price point that works for me then just go for it. If anything breaks I can figure it out 😅
Would definitely suggest inspections though if your buying anything questionable and don’t wanna rear em apart 😅

Do you have a build sheet from gbox on the transaxle? Those can be really high dollar if you go for everything (eg 997 GT2rs gear set, guards LSD, etc)
are you planning on swapping to led bulbs? the light output is so much better while using way less power.

i bought led lights for my outback from auxito. they have been flawless. the bulbs also have an adjustable ring that allows you to rotate them for your housing. @@Smeedia
On that show wheeler dealers they were working on a Carrera. Anyways they did some machine work on the head to route complaint more efficiently “sound familiar”?… anyways if you do which your probably will tear it down and rebuild it definitely have that done. It reduces hot spots.
I haven’t had any luck with upgraded headlights. I had an old honda that came with them and had to rewire the headlights back to stock 😬
Normally I’ll do a full retrofit with new projectors, ballasts etc 😅

Maybe need the metal hub rings. Or buy hub centric wheels or set that matches the hub bore.

OZ and BBS make some insane Porsche wheels. Those same wheels on matching gray or polish would look period correct. Fiske wheels are warranty for life if they crack, they will also redo the offsets (for a fee). Those are some of the best forged wheels out there..
People think this cars are un-atainable, then drop $85k on a truck. Get a beater truck and then get a used 996 Turbo or GT3.

I think some LEDs or xeons up front + maybe a restore/polish could improve headlight performance, ride looks spry for on older model
@7:35 these are just the standing lights right? When you turn on the xenon ones it should be plenty bright.
Also about slipping rear wheels, maybe the tires are not the best? Cannot say how much the RWD only conversion adds to it but my stock 996tt with AWD does not spin at 0.7bar full bust, not even on wet surface. Its on michelin pilot sport 4s tires. Yours seems to be spinning at 0.5 bar already
Tint is always a must…but I gotta have the full windshield done as well. Lol. Since I started doing that, I can’t go back to nothing on the windshield.
I’ve debated doing it but always felt like it makes viability annoying 😅
@@Smeedia I used to do 20% which isn’t bad but on my F97 X3M Comp, I decided to go with 30%. You can still see perfectly fine. Aesthetically it just looks better.

Correction at 3 minutes in bud: Own a buncha TORX bits... because they wear and strip or twist easy. I get them in 10 packs of each size and organized them in a small tackle box.
