One of the most watched videos on my RUclips channel with hundreds of thousands of views is my hands-on review of the original Bose Revolve and Revolve +. I had some small troubles with those speakers, so when I heard Bose had announced a 2nd generation of the Revolve line more than 5 years after launching the originals, I knew I wanted to test them out to see if they’ve made improvements. In this review I’ll look at the sound quality, pairing, stereo coupling of the Bose Revolve II and Bose Revolve + II and whether I think these are a good buy for you.
Bose Revolve II and Bose Revolve + II: what’s the difference?
These are both portable Bluetooth wireless speakers. The main differences are the size, battery life and volume, and of course price - which we’ll get to.
The Revolve II is on the left and the Revolve + II is on the right.
The overall design is unchanged from the original Revolve series: you’re getting tapered cylindrical speakers with rubberized bottoms -and tops that house basic touch controls.
For the most part these speakers are identical except SoundLink Revolve II has up to a 13-hour battery life.
While SoundLink Revolve+ II is larger and has up to a 17-hour battery life. The larget + II also generates higher-volume, more “room-filling sound” claims Bose SoundLink Revolve+ II also has a carrying handle.
    OC
I’ll make a quick note on battery life… each speaker here only adds an hour of additional battery life over the original Revolve speakers. That’s not a lot, given Bose has had over 5 years to upgrade. While some portable speakers can get you 20 hours of life or more, I’d say what Bose is offering here is merely average.
Charging time, by the way takes about 4 hours on either speaker… which is an incredibly long time.
Let’s talk set up…The first thing I noticed is that neither of my speakers arrived charged, which is a bit of a disappointment and means you’ll need to wait 4 hours before your first use.
Even so you can set these speakers up in seconds; when you turn them on, they go into pairing mode and you’ll find them instantly in your phone’s Bluetooth menu. You can also get them connected in the Bose Connect app. A Bluetooth pairing button on top is yet another way to connect.
    VO
Bose’s app gives you a few additional features for your speakers including the ability to pair them together for stereo left and right channels, or set them up in what’s called party mode where the same sound will play across multiple speakers.
Let’s get to the real reason you’re here… the sound quality.
I can say for a fact these speakers both sound outstanding. Delicate sounds are easily audible, like the rasp of a brush on a drumskin. They are extraordinarily well balanced and have bass that’s prominent but not buzzy.
Each of the layers-the high, the mids and the low end- feel like they each have their own place in the room and overall they sound really really great.
Let’s touch on that Stereo pairing - this is a really nice way to get more immersive sound if you do want to splash out and get two speakers. You can, by the way, pair two Revolve IIs or mix and match the II+
There are a few other features worth noting. The Revolve II and Revolve II+ are both water resistant with an IP55 rating. This essentially means these speakers will stand up to some pretty good splashing but you can’t submerge them. As the speakers were on loan to me I didn’t test this out.
While you can’t call for voice assistance just by asking, if you push and hold the multifunction button on the speaker you can summon your phone’s built-in digital assistant.
It’s worth spilling some ink on the difference in price between these two models.
Bose Revolve II sells for about $249CAD and Bose Revolve + II is listed for about $369CAD. Yes, Bose thinks the Revolve + II is worth about $120CAD more than the Revolve II.
Now that's a lot, particularly considering you can buy a whole other Bluetooth speaker with that $120. So what’s that extra cash buying you? A carrying handle, 4 more hours of battery and louder volume. I guess you’ll have to decide if that’s worth it.
In my opinion after testing both, you can be very happy with the size, power and room-filling ability of the smaller, less expensive Bose Revolve II and save yourself some cash.

The Revolve is much better than my previous Soundlink color.
I just bought one from Staples last week and purchased a protective cover for it.
Getting a protective cover to the Revolve 2, you may carrying it more comfortably like what the Revolve Plus version, and you can hang the speaker to somewhere you wish to put when you have a protective cover.
The protective cover It is great for outdoor use.

Well I’m really happy! I have two of the Revolve II speakers coming, as well as two charging docks. My first use case: to play music for a wedding that we will be celebrating in the British Virgin Islands on a 42 foot Catamaran sailing trip.
My second and “primary” use case afterwards: to place them in the salon (or main cabin) of our Catalina 320 sailboat. Using the stereo mode and when placed on either side of the main cabin, the sound should completely fill it and sound beautiful. Fingers crossed for both applications! And of course, they will arrive well after we have left to go to our boat today. :)

Seriously dude, Get a pair and pair them in stereo. Party mode is good but in Stereo .... it is a whole different ball game. Have a look at this video link below ... once I watched it and listened on headphones and with good speakers .. I really heard the difference. Then I bought a pair of Revolve's for myself and paired them and have not looked back. They are amazing. (BTW I first got a couple of Revolve's and it was great but I wanted more - maybe I just knew that the revolve+ could provide more - and there was a deal on a 2nd hand Revole+ that I had just seen🤣 - I then got a pair of Revolve+ and I was just blown away). If you pair them outside - because they are 360 speakers - sometimes people don't even know where the music is coming from. Anyway I am gushing now. Not a good look🤣😆 In the video he pairs a revolve and a revolve+ and it sounded wonderful. That is why I bought them myself. I hope you do get another one - whichever one you get ... I also hope you enjoy them. They are a significant part of my life now and the music is fab. Especially outside.

@@iu1191Incredible! I just bought a pair of the Revolve II’s and they arrive today. I just know the stereo mode will be incredible, and we are going to put them inside our 32 foot sailboat’s main cabin (on either side of the space). I just know the sound will be fantastic, and that my wife will be blown away when we power them up. I think purchasing the power dock for each of them is another game changer. I don’t want to mess around with wires for these beauties. And the best part, we are traveling to BVI to celebrate a wedding. I will use them in stereo to play music for the happy couple on some sandy beach somewhere. :)

Heads up - only the Bose Soundlink Resolve + II or the Bose Soundlink Resolve speakers allows the "party mode" or "stereo mode". Anything from Bose with the term "smart speaker" means no such feature yet the smart speakers are more expensive. NOTE: The Bose Soundlink Flex also supports party mode and stereo mode.

For power users: pressing and holding the Bluetooth button is your best friend for powering on without connecting or separating party / stereo pairs without powering the entire system off. Great speakers, but all of us who bought the original versions with USB Micro got burned, accept for fast charging... If this supports USB PD then that makes these speakers worth it.

I owned the first-generation Revolve+ for a few years. Definitely it was an excellent speaker, but I don't think it was worth $329 (US). I would consider it a good value for $200 (US). After a few years, the battery stopped holding a charge, so I wanted to replace it. Unfortunately Bose decided to use proprietary, non-standard fasteners that the average customer cannot open. So my Revolve+ needlessly went into the trash can.

So can you mix these two different speakers (Revolve 2 and Revolve Plus 2) and run in stereo mode so that it sounds at least as good as having two Revolve 2s for example? If you mix two different speakers, don't they have different volume levels? Ideally I'd have two Revolve 2s and then add another bigger speaker as a woofer, but I am finding no information anywhere with what that would work. Could you, for example use the Bose S1 as woofer in this combination?

I have the smaller Soundlink. The Micro USB has been a problem for me since the beginning, so I bought the charging pad. When it stops charging, you need to update the firmware and/or sometimes reset the device. I've had to do this about four times in the pas 14 months (how long I've owned it). Now that is not working. Bose website says, it's up to date. I've tried all the tricks recommended by Bose, etc. It won't charge at all. So now it's plugged into my laptop via USB so I can listen to the news. I use this speaker mostly for the news in the morning before work...so 2 hours per day for 14 months. Bose wants $80 to repair. So won't be doing that since this is a defect. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it. I did like the sound for my purposes though!

Part of me thinks that Bose released these just so that you could review them and get them connected 😂🤣.
It was such a fail when you were not able to get them connected before.
I bet many people just skipped them because of that.
    Thanks for doing this reprise.
I watched another review by Oluv gadgets who was able to connect them. The video was great and showed the impact of the stereo sound connection outside. I found myself buying two of the revolve plus speakers. I have not looked back and when they play in Stereo, they really are subline as you suggested. It was a big fail by Bose to leave you hanging on the stereo connection. You tried and tried and nothing worked. They should have fixed this - they should have reached out to you to fix it.
This review was great - as was the one you did previously.
One thing you didn't mention was if there was any other difference between version 1 and version 2 of these speakers and if you thought it was a good upgrade since version 1 are still on sale in some places. Any thoughts on that?
Also - there is also the Bose Portable Home Speaker (terrible name) which has Bluetooth and WIFI and has Alexa and Google Assistant built-in I think.
Is that a reasonable upgrade to these speakers as a whole? It costs more and we are told sounds louder and has more bass ..... but does not stereo pair.
What are your thoughts on that in relation to these two?
You have reviewed so many speakers and devices of this type that your opinion would be very valuable on the Bose line-up and how these 'updated' or maybe 're-released' speakers fair against their predecessors, successors and their competition.
We always watch, We enjoy it very much and from your opinions and reviews, we learn a great deal! 👍🏾

They'll never put in voice activation in this line. They'll push you to the home 300 or home 500 speaker for that option, or if you want a battery powered option, the home portable. All of these are WiFi models and are a massive upgrade to the Revolve speakers.

Very similar sound, nearly identical between models. Plus models is just more powerful and better battery life. My opinion, it's not worthy it to pay extra 50% for slightly better experience.

    You contradict yourself:
at 01:23 you say the Revolve+ II is larger and has a 17 hour life
    - VERSUS -
at 01:35 you say "each speaker here (whatever that's supposed to mean) only adds an addition hour of battery life over the original Revolve speakers".
Perhaps there used to be an older model Revolve speaker that you haven't either mentioned or assume we are aware of its past existence.

It’s ok. You can add the charging base and voila! No problem, no more messing with cables of any kind as long as it sits on the charging dock. I paid $12 each for two of them…and in the same color as the unit. :)

I love Bose voice command... It's nice when your speaker tells you who and or what's calling you while you're in the shower imo.

Micro USB deal-breaker and I like a bit more crisp bass...everyone that I know says that this is muddy...not great for dialogue in movies or music. Bose losing out!

@@user-xb8bf8et5cSo you don’t like Harmon Kardon. Do you like the Bose Soundlink Revolve II speakers then? I love the fact that we can communicate through translation. I live in Southern California. Where do you live?
