    Good video Tony. YT has changed and not for the good. I don’t blame you for shortening your videos. Most of my vids. People only watch maybe the first minute. I don’t make any money off YT and never have. A Patreon is s great idea. I have one but don’t understand how to use it or make it work. Your channel is more informative I’m sure your will succeed 👍🏼👍🏼

    I forgot to discharge the capacitors once and it wasn't me that got the shock, it was the MCU. Somehow I bridged a connection between a capacitor and a trace leading to the STM32 MCU on a KT controller with a multimeter test lead. I think your videos are awesome. I spent so much time looking for answers to problems I run into relating to whatever project I'm working on. Some of the best solutions come from this channel. The reason you don't get more views is because there a very few intelligent people left in this world. Its like there is massive wave of stupidly spreading across the world like wildfire.

      Cheers mate but you'd think that, if there were so many stupid people, they'd watch the videos in an attempt to learn something. It's a very strange fact, but I'm unique because I get less views from subscribers than passers by and it's usually the other way around. It's running at 43% from my subscribers and 57% are from recommendations/searches. I don't want fame, I want all my subscribers to watch all the videos or it's pointless subscribing in the first place. Plus which, the dislikes usually come within the first 2-3 minutes of releasing a video - this proves that it's subscribers that don't like the content and probably because it's not EV related (the reason they joined). This channel was never started as an EV channel, it just happened to start producing EV videos because I wanted to build an e-Bike.
      RUclips's algorithms won't promote a channel when so few subscribers watch the videos. If I had 10k subs and 10k views (I know, it never happens like that) I'd be more successful than I am now.

      @@Vortecks out of curiosity, what have your subscription numbers been over the last two years?
      Something very unusual happened that gave people a lot of time to sit around and watch videos. Lately things are starting to become more normal. These changes probably explain a lot of weird viewership on RUclips...
      I have to say I found your channel through your V2 bike build but I like almost all of your stuff, especially the steam engines.
      Now this is me trying to get you to justify sticking around a bit longer (for my benefit) but I think I could be right.

      @@joequixotic3039 My subs didn't ramp during the pandemic. In fact, they dropped off.
      My spike came when I started doing EV stuff but I can't do it anymore mate.

    Eh I needed 134.4v for 32s lipo batteries (that feed a 150v 1000A buck boost converter = mains not big enough = high rate batteries). Was gonna build a few (since it's multiple batteries in parallel sometimes), but it turned out just to buy them from Aliexpress was cheaper (about $200 ea for 134.4v 12A, free shipping).

    Just found your channel and looking through you back videos, I love all the out-takes throughout! For this charger/power supply - will it stop charging once the battery pack has reached the desired voltage or do you have to keep an eye on it?

  • @squee666
    @squee666 3 года назад +1

    Going to use this build for my next power supply, very practical and the variable voltage/amps are useful.
    Do you know if there is a Ryden that will do higher amps as at the voltage range i would be using 58v max the PSU can do almost a full 10A.

    • @Vortecks
      @Vortecks  3 года назад

      If you want any higher current at 60V, I think you'll have to go for the RD series - the RD6018 is 60V 18A mate but they are bigger.

    For me putting videos up on RUclips is more for fun than monetary gain. I get a few quid per month but not a lot so I understand your point, it's a lot of work for very little return.
    Best of luck whatever you decide.
    If it helps I just checked my figures and 95% of my views and 94% watch time is from non subscribers.

    • @Vortecks
      @Vortecks  3 года назад +1

      Yes mate, it's fun to educate others. The trouble is, no one wants to be educated by the stuff I used to do and they only came here for an easy way to make their cheap and nasty scooter go fast so they can die early (my own fault really). Now I can't do EV stuff, they complain and pick fault with everything I do so I have to sit and wait for the negative comments and delete them. I just want to educate, no matter what I do and I only want the subscribers who want to be generally educated.

If not (as I say to everyone) let me know and I'll do something about it. I'm always open to suggestions on Patreon but it's very rare that anyone actually has anything that whey want me to cover.

    I'd leave the bottom of the outer casing in. It provides an earth shielding and more importantly acts as a big heatsink.

    • @Vortecks
      @Vortecks  3 года назад +2

      Because of the crappy design of 90% of Chinese power supplies, the casing provides no earth shielding at all, it's isolated until you touch an internal component which is impossible with the casing fitted. The FETS and all internal components stay a lot cooler with the casing off and a constant flow of air across them than with the casing fitted.
      Tested, proven and working which is why I released the video.

    The wiring to the first pot *sounds* wrong but may not be due to crap design of the power supply
    Are the red and black wires pos and neg as is conventional, or is the design deliberately confusing ? I ask because pos and neg would normally go to the ends of the pot to create a voltage divider

    • @Vortecks
      @Vortecks  3 года назад

      I think it's designed to be misleading or just a bad design. I checked the resistance on the original voltage pot and wired it 'like for like'.

      Charging super capacitors mainly for my upcoming "will it vaporise" videos - All the other chargers I've tried don't work because capacitors have such a low internal resistance that they shut down because it's a dead short.
      Of course, there's that and powering everything I work on.

    Sorry to read about your dissatisfaction with the views. I've always been sad to hear about your pain issues.
    This probably won't help at all but I was in significant neck and shoulder pain a while ago. It was destroying my sleep and quite unpleasant when awake. I thought I had popped out a rib or vertebrae. I went to a chiropractor but he was a quack telling me I had bulging disks, scoliosis and other issues that my doctors and previous chiropractor never diagnosed. His quicky adjustment barely gave me any relief.
    You know what did help? It was bananas. I think I just had a potassium deficiency.
    I hope you can find something as simple as that to get you back on the right track.
    I have gotten a lot of education from your videos so I am going to miss your content and humor a lot.

    • @Vortecks
      @Vortecks  3 года назад

      That's very nice to hear, thank you 😁
      I'm not disappearing altogether and I may make a full comeback one day. I've got to concentrate on the things that bring me the most enjoyment out of life and not worry so much about the rest of the world.
      As for my back..... an MRI has confirmed that I do have a bulging disk and, because of the current backlog with hospital appointments, it's going to be a while before I can see a specialist about it.
