After watching many RUclips videos and taking courses on Udemy I was offered a position as a Support Technician. This is my first position in Tech and I do Software Troubleshooting. I'm learning so much. My goal is to become a Software Engineer so now I'm studying through RUclips and online courses to achieve this goal. Learning to Code seems so challenging but I'm going to stick with it. Thank you for sharing your story!

Thanks for the support. You can do it, it will all be worth it. Its great to see that you are learning on RUclips as well. I feel that its very under rated and an unspoken way to learn quickly.

@@AdviceFromADad It's definitely a challenge but I will stick with it! I agree, RUclips has a mass of resources to learn from. I combine it with courses that I take at Udemy. I'm preparing to take my CCNA.

I've been in software for a while and I can say that for the most part the title senior is meaningless and will vary from company to company. Should you apply to a senior role with no experience? Absolutely not. But if you've worked other jobs and have solid projects/experience then you might be fine. So much of senior is often your ability to work and solve problems on your own as well as your ability to know when to ask for help

Just finished up at Coder Foundry.
30 to 40 apps a day seems overwhelming. Wondering how long it took on average?

New to your channel and I liked your story, sounds like you were tactful and eventually you got it. I had a question for you though. I am from New York City so there is a good job market here. I have ruffly about 8 months or so learning JavaScript with the basics of HTML and CSS where I am good with flex box but horrible with grid for CSS and styling, I also know a bit of Bootstrap. I tried React out for 2 months but failed, I should have stood with it but the useEffect was giving me lots of problems. Eventually I jumped to Django because I noticed a smaller job market. So, the beginning of this year around February I began by learning Django for full stack. So far, I am getting good at Django, and I already made 1 project. Django is a lot easier to learn compared to React despite the fact one is a front-end library and the other is a backend framework.
Question? From your experience should I also apply to jobs asking for node and express as well as for Django. There is a tiny job market for Django Developers compared to React with more than 50 applicants constantly applying. Figured I could learn Express and node as well after I get comfortable with Django. Or maybe I am doing too much? I would appreciate any guidance and thank you in advance.

First I want to thank you for the support. It means a lot. If I were in your position, I would apply to both, in fact anything that even mentions javascript, node, express, python, django or related terms. Let the companies decide if you can do the job or not. If they give you a call, they will have their own reasons. You would be surprised, react is so popular that companies that do not have as many resources to get the reach like a Fang company are in the background struggle to find react devs.
Sounds like you are doing a great job self teaching, keep it going! I personally think a great connector now would be to pick-up react again and try to connect that to the backend that you made. time box your project to 1/2 month for completion. Focus on using react and use something like material-ui thats easy to make it look good. (then create a new line item, separate from your backend project on your resume that showcases your frontend project).
A side note: a lot of folks that join the workforce right out of undergrad are learning react on the job. Bootcampers will have 3 projects, each will have been completed in 2/3 weeks between 3/4 people. It's important that you dont undersell yourself, you most likely know more than you think. Don't be afraid to apply.
Let me know if this helps. Have you been getting any hits on the applies?

@@AdviceFromADad Thank you I appreciate you getting back to me. It is really good advice and I was hesitant with the idea in applying for technologies which I may not know too well. But I will soon learn React. I want to try to create 1 more project from a tutorial with Django I recently found. Sounds like an interesting tutorial to learn from. I Figured make it and as the tutorial does and afterwards created it differently and add new features. I think by the end of the month I will begin with React again and try as you suggest I will try and learn React for frontend and Django for the backend with a MySQL database.
Lastly, I appreciate you offering help. I promise It won't be often, thank you once again.
Quick question? I am confused about the useEffect? I think it is used for calling API's? Or making API request? I will try and read the documentation.

I’m 20 years old in CS, and your story give me so much motivation to get out there and start applying. What companies did you apply with tho and how? You must have used Indeed, ZipRecruiter, ext. plus applying to companies business websites. Is there anything else I missed? Or should I just grind out apps on indeed and the web.

You got this, keep grinding and moving. It will happen and will be worth it in the end. Most importantly don't be afraid of rejection.
I only searched on linkedin, I put myself in a very strict plan, 30-50 applications a day. No cover letters, or questionnaires or anything that takes more than 2-5 mins to fill out. I searched up 'javascript' as the keywords and because I was searching every single day, I would only look up jobs posted in the last 48 hours. My #1 rule is if I think I can do the job, I will apply. Thus 'senior/midlevel/junior/etc' didn't matter to me. My ideal company at the time was something 'known' but not flashy in tech, think target, homedepot, ford. If they were willing to give me a call back, I knew I had something.
I appreciate the support, I'll dive deeper into this topic soon here. I hope this can help you get started.
