    I have been using this same model since 2012 and it's the best laptop for my life.

      That's awesome, almost 12 years old then, such a solidly built laptop.

    ThinkPad has Power Management software that also goes to BIOS. it can set minimum battery level before starting to charge, making the battery last much-much longer

    I have the e520 which is very similar and still use it daily almost 5 years on. My friend has a new Yoga and still prefer my old Lenovo.

    I have an E420 and it's fantastic for programming. Let me make a very, very strong point. The TrackPoint is AN ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE for any programmer. I am definitely more productive at editing code on any GUI using a ThinkPad TrackPoint.

  • @LaptopReviewsDotCom

    Great feedback, I agree the E430 is a good option for students, it's a budget laptop that's well built, of course you can get something more powerful and better built but this is a great compromise.

    This is a great machine for the value. I've got the E430 with an Intel i5, 750 GB hard drive, and 6 GB of RAM, and while it's not the greatest laptop in the world, for the price it's great for more casual users. It does handle most games rather well, though. I don't care that it's a tad ugly -- function over form. It's got to be boxy otherwise it won't be able to withstand a good beating.

  • @LaptopReviewsDotCom

    Good point, I agree that the trackpoint is a big bonus for programmers and quickly navigating the cursor.

    t430 has the new keyboard, a bit longer battery life, and usb 3.0. Those are the only real differences I can see. If the t420 is much cheaper, buy it, but the difference isn't really that big.
    Just wait for a back to school sale on the lenovo website, you'll save all kinds of money

    I believe the S430 has the option of dedicated graphics, the E430 does not (at least in the U.S. it doesn't). The S430 also has a ThunderBolt port on it, not a huge deal but some people like the idea of having that port.

  • @LaptopReviewsDotCom
    @LaptopReviewsDotCom  12 лет назад

    Build quality is very good, it's not quite as solid as the T430 but still better than the average consumer laptop. The Vostro 3460 is a nice laptop and built well too, I think I'd just decide based on price between that and the E430, I like both equally.

    I have one of these machines. I bought the cheaper B820 celeron cpu version for 329 dollars and I replaced the hdd with samsung ssd and upgraded the ram to 8G 10600 DDR3. After the upgrade it's super fast in boot and shutdown... It's not the prettiest machine but it solid. The price of this machine is so cheap that I wouldn't care if I drop it or step on it. I don't take out my macbook pro anymore.

    I would really recommend the t430s. I know u asked about t430 and e430, but I had the 1st generation TP edge and I was kinda disappointed. I'm a grad student and now I have the t420s, and as a student I'm always on the go. So, I really appreciate roll-cage (which the edge doesn't have), the smaller and lighter form factor and the higher resolution (1600x900). Trust me, you're better off saving a little more and getting the t-series. I agree you don't need the extra processing power.

  • @LaptopReviewsDotCom
    @LaptopReviewsDotCom  12 лет назад

    Agreed, the E430 / E530 is a solid laptop especially for the price. While it's not the prettiest laptop out there, it's also much less likely to get stolen than say a MacBook Air! True story, I put bumper stickers on my laptop in college to make it look cheap and ugly because theft on college campuses is so rampant, especially with Apple laptops.

    If you're not doing serious encoding, you won't feel the difference,
    CPUs have come to a speed where you can't really feel the difference if you're just the average consumer.
    the T430 has 3 Years NBD warranty, Jumpable Frame, keyboard drains,
    E430 1 Year Carry in Warranty, Dont think the frame is as though,

    is there a vent on the back as well as the left side? also i agree with the changes from the E420, which i actually own.

  • @LaptopReviewsDotCom
    @LaptopReviewsDotCom  11 лет назад

    That's true. Just as a note, Lenovo is releasing a ThinkPad Edge E431 and E531 in a couple of months and they will offer a 1600 x 900 screen.

  • @LaptopReviewsDotCom

    Certainly, I'd like to have a 1600 x 900 resolution screen to fit more code on the screen though. That's not offered with the E430 though.

    I prefer a higher resolution than 1366 x 768 for programming to be honest, but the keyboard works great for programming.

  • @talezshin
    @talezshin 11 лет назад

    This laptop is the best fit for students in terms of price/performance unless they are 3D graphics major(or a hardcore gamer.) Sure, 1366 x 768 resolution is absolutely one of shortages but price can compromise any such shortfalls, also including no indicator LEDs, flimsy touchpad, and cheap looking screen. Maybe L series or budget trimmed(not sacrificing higher resolution) T series would work better for programmers. I'm not sure why they don't sell 630M model in North America, though.

  • @MrGreghome
    @MrGreghome 12 лет назад

    Who uses Thunderbolt ? USB3.0 runs at comparable speeds and is more widely use.
    You can't even find decently priced thunderbolt products out there.
    As for Display purposes, they can't even get HDMI saturated enough in the market until recently........so yea, why bother with thunderbolt?

    Greetings from Sweden. I am about to buy the Lenovo Thinkpad E420s with Intel core i5 aswell. Are you satisfied with the computer? Is the screen good; colors, brightness and so on? And what about the fan noise? I have had a few HP laptops over the years and most of them have been good but very loud. I find the E420s very attractive and affordable. Do you recommend it?

    i am into computer programming.....but m a casual gamer as well.... can any of these come with atleast 1 GB graphic card??

  • @deggis4
    @deggis4 11 лет назад

    If you stand by your original claim, which is dumb anyway because the quesdtion was if this computer is _good_ for programming, then I will stand by my claim. 5 fps certainly doesn't mean one CAN'T play the game. Similarly, 600 vertical pixels and the crappiest keyboard on earth doesn't mean one can't put characters on the screen.

    This looks horrible. (in comparison to other thinkpad models). The touchpad looks like it would just get in the way, the keyboard doesn't even look like a thinkpad keyboard. They should've stuck this as an Ideapad, because it does not look thinkpad quality.
