Let's say you installed SSL certificate in your website and now you need to change wordpress url to https, from http. How would you do that on already installed wordpress site that is on http?
There are many ways to do that. We can do this right from wordpress dashboard or we can use cPanel to do that.
From cpanel
go to phpmyadmin
now there may be more than one databases and we may not know which site is using which database.
To find that out, go to file manager from cpanel
go to website directory
open wp-config file
confirm database name
go back to phpmyadmin
click at database
go to _options table (ignore table prefix, find _options / it can be wp_options as well)
locate rows containing siteurl and home.
change their value to desired value.
We can also install a plugin 'better search and replace' or 'better search replace' and replace urls in wordpress.
Also we can also do it from wordpress itself.
Go to settings from wordpress dashboard and change wordpress url and site address.

I changed the url on the wordpress site and broke the it? What can I do? Can I access cpanel from anywhere? The owner is not savvy and I think this will scare her
How did you make changes to the site? Same way, revert the changes. If you don't have access to cpanel, you will have to ask from the client. Before making any changes its a good practice to always take the backup and make sure you have full control over files so that you can make changes if need be.
@@webstylepress I logged into the site itself on /login and changed the settings there. After that I could not log back into the website to revert the changes. I didn't think it would be that easy to ruin a website
