Hi . . . fellow Series 3 owner (1972 88” station wagon). Great videos (both part 1 and 2) . . . very well done restoration on your truck and the overview of this kit as well as the quality and information on installation are all excellent. Can appreciate all your comments on the safety of a low power vehicle on today’s roads and this update seems a viable option. Many thanks for taking the time to put these videos together and look forward to future updates and content.
Had an ACR kit for years with Roland's 2.8 piston set. I have a 2.5 petrol, however another good start point is the 5MB 2.25 engine. The extra 500cc makes a huge difference. This conversion begs for the ACR am. Runs really well.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone! This may upset some of the purists out there, but I am seriously thinking about another upgrade. :-) The ACR upgrade works well but I still feel that I need more power. I would love to hear what you all think about the following. I’m thanking about putting a Small Block Chevy 350 in with EFI and a Munsie SM 465 transmission bolted to the original transfer case. I will most likely add power stealing as well. I wanted to experience the original 2.25 design but to make the old girl something I drive 60 miles a day back and forth to work it just isn’t practical to run the old drive system. I know some of you will think this is an awful idea but I really want to drive it on a regular basis without constantly trying to keep up with traffic. It’s very easy to find parts for the small block Chevy engine in the United States. I would love to hear your thoughts as long as they are courteous :-), and honesty is always welcome.
I have a Series 3 myself and have looked into the SBC swap but from all my research, it is a huge undertaking. What I've discovered as a much easier swap is dropping in a 4.3 Vortec V6. Essentially a 90* Chevy V8 sans 2 cylinders so you don't have to modify the firewall and your driveline angles stay pretty much the same. Bell housing is the same as the Chevy V8s and you can easily mate any GM tranny to it. My plan is to go this route and mate it to an SM465. Advance Adaptors makes a SM465 to Series TC adaptor. I've talked to someone who did this swap and all they had to do was modify the tunnel a little and cut 2" off the rear driveshaft (although I think moving the engine forward this can be avoided). Those V6's have around 195hp and plenty of torque and are widely available here in the US.
Brandon, I thought about doing what you are planning as well but I really want the NV4500 due to its overdrive and granny first. I really love this kind of challenge anyway. Fabrication is something I really enjoy. Thanks for your comments.
Really useful video, I have just done the SU conversion on my series 3 and i'm having the same issue with the throttle rod. Could you tell me roughly where you put the second hole in that plate please... i'mm get to the head upgrade by the end of the year but if i did the camshaft too i'm likely to run into trouble with the swiss MOT!
What a great looking Series engine bay! That oil catch can looks awesome, even if it wasn't functional. Did you also get that from ACR? Really nicely turned out engine and the entire truck I'm sure has seen the same level of attention to detail. Thank you for your information you provided on both videos. Nice job!!!
Hi, you are very observant and correct. It became clear when I went to put the distributor in. It was going to be a hassle to rotate the drive dog so I just left it. But it really doesn’t matter where the distributor is as long as #1 at at TDC on the power stroke and all the wires are in order. At this point, none of it matters because I put a new 350 Small block Chevy bolted to a rebuilt NV4500 five speed transmission in this beast. I also put in power steering, Discovery 2 axles, disk brakes, Tom Woods heavy duty drive shafts etc. I love it now!!! I will but up a video soon.
Love to see a road test. Great videos and work you’ve done. I am just starting on my series 3 project 88” 1984. Top work

Lovely Land Rover and a great work, I hope your half shafts are ok with all that power!

emicroengine1 I think ..... it’s your truck 😊 It’s not like you’ve got the last one - all I’d ask is that you share it here please !

I watched the V8 video first. So I'm going in reverse. Have not started my project yet. Still have to get a 4 post lift to make room in the garage.
That is one sweet series 3.Very tidy engine bay, to go with the rest of the vehicle!!! 👍
Thanks Kevin...I may have an update on this truck soon. Some purists may not like what I’m about to do. The letters SBC may be involved. 😀
@@edbittner480 Great Ed.look forward to it.
Don't worry about the purists. I had a Series 1 fitted with a Rover 3.5 V8 😁
@@edbittner480 PS. I've got an SBC in the hotrod 1959 Ford Anglia you can see in my thumbnail 👀
And we all hang around to see it run on the highway at 80 mph...

the distributor is not in the right position and the ignition cables are not in order👎👎👈
