Why the FNAF Movie Should Ignore the Games

- First video essay, wanted to talk about a monster movie I've been looking forward to for a long time. Good ol' Five Nights at Freddy's
Here's hoping it ignores the games.
mad shoutout to @plutoxic for the wonderful remix
credit goes to @GameTheory @markiplier and @cordzfx for the short clips of theirs that I used
Me listening to Freddy say “Together, we’re fnaf. Now let’s go and kill spring trap”
And the fnafed all over the place, trully one of the movies of all time.
Ong
Freddy nonnie ahica and foxy!
It is time to Spring the Trap
I swear to God, Morbius forever tainted our culture. For better or for worse.
I always thought the film should only use the first 3 games lore only. The only lore I would use outside of the 3 original games is just the names of certain characters like William Afton’s name for example.
Same let’s have none of that sci-fi or over complicated crap
same
Scott didn't have a full story planned from the get-go, and had to make things up on the spot to please people. I think a fresh new start via the movie would give him a chance to make something more clean/clear
Let’s hope he don’t try and pull that sci-fi stuff on us
@@decomposingdave2902well, that’s what he does best, no? Lolol
You mean like a fnaf reboot?
@@martinchik3543 more of a cleaner continuity, like how the books have 2 different continuities from the game

So glad I stopped caring about the lore after fnaf 3 because I liked how it all made sense up to that point.
Agreed!
I didn't mind Sister Location at first, since the animontronic designs were still scary asf despite the over the top futuristic designs. And Fnaf 6, the game that chronologically comes after Fnaf 3. Is where the game series really should've ended with Henry's ending.
@@jbroz_tv0138 I personally love Security Breach, it renewed my love for the game. But it relied too heavily on retconning the past. A minor nod or throwback here and there is one thing. But the “Afton” ending was like Groundskeeper Willie getting off the bus and scaring the Simpson kids, only for the bus to leave and Willie chasing it because he left his gun on the seat.
@@jbroz_tv0138Not really, Fnaf 6 ending is the Fnaf 3 ending but instead of using the Phantom Animatronics it uses Jimmy Neutron, Scrap Baby, Haunted, Burned Metal Sphagetti and a Rockstar Freddy Recolor with the Puppet inside.
I'd have preferred it if Henry finds a Long Term way to ensure that Afton stays dead instead of just burning him down again right after he just survived an Fire.
I like Afton being Glitchtrap and both him and Vanessa where lost opportunities but now we have a shitty endo that may or may not be Glitchtrap and would have no intention to use Vanessa if he actually is Glitchtrap, anyways no one knows who tf Burntrap now is
@@Cake2019_6
All the more reason the story probably should've ended with Scott's games. Although the Help Wanted was cool, it just built up to a pixar adventure game with empty characters.
The lore made sense by FNAF 1, 2 and 3.
It ended with Pizzeria Simulator.
I know bare minimum about this franchise, but am very excited for the film. The story really went off the rails from where I remember at the start of it's popularity. Some... strange creative choices to say the least.
UPDATE: Solid movie! It's perfect as a mid tier horror film for scared folks and kids and a solid story. hot damn!
I hope it doesn't go for a Sci -fi approach like SL and SB did , keep things a little more Supernatural like the 1st 4 Games
''but the actual tension the game builds up, is like a full course fucking meal''
i loved that
Really nice man! Didn’t thought you would jump from pokemon to fnaf but god damn you did it like a champ
I plan on covering everything to do with monsters. Including monster hunter, alien, Godzilla, whatever else!

now fnaf 4 could of not been bad if it was UCN. like dead afton in the kids room
die in a fire was weak!?!?!???????? it’s literally their best song
Ehhh I got no time ehhhh i can't fix you ehhh It's been so long
Ngl, I clicked on this to hear a discussion on the fnaf movie but the first half of the video seemed like a stealth hate piece on Kingdom Hearts.
The production for the movie as it was made for the final production was laid out for us in a post by Scott to be very accurate to the games so we'll see how true that statement is going to be. Probably not as accurate as it was when he made that post given Vanessa is involved somehow but I'm interested in how this goes.
I don't know about all that. I'm not entirely sure who exactly the two main characters are but if they are just random characters I wouldn't like that. I was hoping this movie would follow Michaels story. The start of the movie is macabre and slow. It's starts at the moment Michael goes back to Freddy Fazbear's diner as a security guard, to find out what happened to his siblings. As the nights progresses, in sort of a Tarantino/the ring chapter formula of all 7 nights, we get glimpses of the past - the tragedy of Evan and his sister and how it's haunted Michael. Each night gets more wild, like an IT movie, just absolute madness. But he stays there to find out the truth of it all. The games practically set up the perfect movie.
"Mike schmidt" is the protag in fnaf 1.
@@oliver1820 mike shmidt is a false name used by micheal afton
@@oliver1820ya know that’s Michael right? Or at least it’s theorized to
@@king_ratio8991 yes!
changing the lore and how it happened wouldve been fine imo but they annoyingly changed the characters. Mike is not william aftons son in the movie.
me leaving cinema after Mike say '' How do you like them apples''
Fnaf 1,2, and 3 are perfect lore and game wise, after those three in my mind, shit when wayy too messy, not bad just too confusing, those original three will forever be the best fnaf games for me 🙏
To me, it should be one of two things : taking the old fnaf canon, before the books, even more likely FNAF 1 to 4
Or just being his own story.
Sorry but Sister location and later entries make this story very confusing and complicated with WTF impossible for the time tech and liquid souls
The books... Even worst with thousands of characters too over the top
Funny how fnaf started with the GAMES
Well their are new games on the way video game franchises usually have non video game stuff too like mario and sonic & also pac man it's not THAT out of the blue that fnaf started with the games and now it has a movie and books
Kinda of a weird comment to type well bye :]
I didnt finish the video yet but i wanted to comment this,
Scott cawthon, jason blumm, and emma tammi (the director) all said that they made this movie for the fans only, and that was the only way to get the movie to work. "If other people come, thats fine, but this is made for the fans" - jason blum
Jason blum, owner of blumhouse, talked about how video game movies fall into the pit of trying to generalize to both fans and also "general audience's ".
The fjlm will be made for us :]
Also they said they went through 9 directors and 15 different screenplays.
So yeah, it def changed throughout
That's good with me
Interesting vid, dude. Also, the way FMAF went off the rails a little has always been fascinating to me
Thank you, I am glad somebody finally looked at the FNaF games from a logical standpoint. All of the stuff that happened after FNaF 4 was a bunch of... well, nonsense. The games story became insanely convoluted and frustrating to follow. I feel as though Scott made the lore as complicated and ridiculous as possible just to make MattPat have to make another video solving it (which will in turn make more people want to buy and play FNaF. Advertising101) I still love the franchise and invest a lot of time and effort into trying to solve the new lore, but at the end of the day, I liked FNaF when it was simple and will always consider that the real canon.
Scott said that the fans only understood the first three games 100%, not four.
I want it to ignore the games so instead of it being what we've already seen, it can be somthing diffrent, alot of people say it needs the bite of 87, or the sister location when it can just start all over and bring in a new audience as well as og fans
Love the bite of the 87 idea I could go without sister location
I feel like straying from the lore is fair but i just watched it here in the UK and some of the changes are just controversial to me
Mike is not williams son in the movie and spoiler alert underneath so watch out:
vanessa IS william aftons son?
i do feel like they shouldve kept the characters as they were in the series, only changing their story not who they actually were. Having michael find out about his serial killer dad in the movie wouldve been great but we didnt see that sadly.
Yeah that was a very questionable decision. I just don’t understand the reasoning behind William being Vanessa’s father. I don’t think she even needed to be in the movie at all, let alone flip the whole plot FNAF
I feel like the og series and all the nonsense that came out can work as seperate things.
It just if you wanted to go from 1 to 6... that alot of work to make things flow just right.
To be honest I think they should only acknowledge the first 4 games story
Whatever Scott Cawthon decides to base the movies on, that's what it should be, and we already know that the movie will be based off of the lore of the first 3 games.
I just saw the movie last night and I thought it was overall good. The story wasn't really concrete but there was still some very good things to take from it, like Joss's childhood background in the film's narrative and overall background lore of the Freddy's establishment. It does follow the very simple five night structure (yes, I counted when I first watched it) and things do get somewhat tense by the final act not all that much. I do agree with some people that perhaps the reveal of purple guy/Springtrap could've been better, the jumpscares felt cheap as always, the animatronics sadly weren't that threatening, and the third act needed more suspense in my opinion. Even as a PG-13 "horror" movie it still lacks with that too. But I now that this being a Five Nights at Freddy's movie and paying homage and tribute to what made the classic games great, I feel more strongly that the fan side of the audience is what's going to propel this movie forward with it's goodwill with in that particular fan community and hopefully in it's box office numbers.
Well listening to mattpatt was the first mistake, how can we trust him if he lies to make his theories sound right
1000% with you on this one. I don't mind if they draw inspiration of course and reimagine some elements fans would like to see like any good adaptation. But a 1 to 1 adaptation of the games is not only extremely impractical it would also be lame as hell.
Already does technically, since the nightguard isn't purple too considering WHO it's supposed to be in the game's world.
Mike being Afton's son who DIED in Sister Location when he was working there.
I’m pretty sure they already said the movies are only going up to 3
I subbed so I can be on of the OG'S for when this channel blows up
"Still 2014" got me 😂
he clearly had something planned to take the story in fnaf 1
Well Scott did have a say in things in games like Security Breach telling them to add in things.
People coming back here to comment that this didn’t age well is very confusing. Because out of all things the connection to the games is at the very bottom of the film’s problems( hell I wouldn’t even consider it a problem )
I felt compelled to make a follow-up video about it after seeing it and the reception
The Mario music jarred me out of engagement with the subject matter twice lol. Good video. Either didn’t catch how him being Christian mattered, or it didn’t matter as much as you said. The rest is a good crash course on development and lore.
That old game theory video where Matpat thought you played the killer and was trapped in a personal hell...
That is literally Ultimate Custom Night!
despite me being a super big fan of fnaf
i completely agree with you
i dont think the story of Fnaf is convuluted after Fnaf 3 the thing is a lot more info has been added to old stuff make it more dense and confusing some the fnaf movie is extremely loyal to the games according to those who saw it and I think that now its the right time to put everything on a line a make everything fit and easier to pick up to anyone
"Why then Fnaf movie should ignore the games"
Why shouldn't it lmao, Lore is too bad and confusing
It should take the characters and locations but NOT the lore or story and make a new story.
I hope toy chika jump scares vannys top off
Well it did but also didn't
I gave the movie a pass. Now I want to see it.
i totaly dissagree, the fnaf movie whould follow its games.
yeah that didnt age well at all. should've definitely followed the games.
I actually really liked the movie. It reminded me a lot of gateway horror movies like Gremlins or Krampus
@@MonsterC4m Course you did.
It ignored the movie like you wanted, and it failed mostly.
Just for the critics, the movie already made more than it spent for it’s production and the majority of the fnaf community loved it
@@mr-lemur which part? The bookfans would somes scenes are ripped from the books. Old school fans on the other hand probably felt like it wasn't what they thought It would be. Horror fans got a kids movie. Fnaf memers got plenty to gush over atleast in content. Newer fans really would've been the targeted audience not having deeply dived enough to recognize whats off with it.
It’s a gateway horror movie similar to Krampus or Killer Klowns from Outer Space. I thought it was pretty good, but to each their own, king

Dang 46 subs is making me wonder why it's on my feed but I'm glad It was
Great video bro! I'm gonna sub so I can become an og when this channel eventually blows up.
15:52 i didnt know fnaf fans could be in relationships. learn smth new every day!
the script for the movie started getting written years ago bro, your kinda late now its a few days from release
I only disagree in that fnaf 2 failed as a game because it’s all about management of the damn puppet haha
''fnaf 3's living tombstone song is the most mid'' I beg your pardon?
I think it better to use the key points of the lore, instead of getting rid of it.
You sound like a young swaggersouls
Well ehh it could have but that's kinda to late they did say it was a retelling of the games but also with it's own take on it too just as an example Susie is probably not called Susie in the movie version
I hope they bring in SL and some of the others, but have a different story
Ik you did not just say that about the fnaf 3 song
Fnaf 4 is a great ending btw it’s conclusion
I’m glad it wasn’t tho cause the game series is still great
why did ya bring up the games in relation to the movie? i know i am commenting this before watching, but scott made it clear the movies, are an entirely seperate canon from the games, plus to 'ignore' the games would be kinda like doing that for the books, cause even the books touched on the games enough to still have it be a fnaf story, lol
Im the 32nd subscriber😎😎😎 Remember me when ur famous.
I’d be surprised if the movie is even decent, it’s hard to make a movie out of a game like fnaf

The script changed 15 times right?
Yeah
No it shouldn't I want it to fallow the games. Besides you want a parallel universe to FNAF read the books. I want the FNAF movie almost accurate to the games
I’m in the uk so I’m watching it tommorow!!!
Welp, it did ignore the games and due to that it turned out to be incredibly mediocre
