Ah,I miss The Legendary 500cc era Back when Kevin Schwantz,Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson,Alex Barros, and Australian 5 time Champions,Mick Doohan on ride Keep this historical "ON THIS DAY" Thanks for this awesome archive, MotoGP!!!
I totally agree. Why a production replica wasn't available, or even worked on today is a crime. I understand that there was a very limited version available at that time. I need one in my garage.
At least a 250 streetbike like Aprilia RS 250, Suzuki RG 250, Yamaha TZR 250, Honda NSR 250 and whatever we had back in those days. It would have been fantastic.
I actually got to sit on the 11 Cagiva, my buddy Giovanni Castiglioni had it in his living room :). I also tried to wear John's helmet but it would not fit. Good times i'll never forget.
@@szewei85 ... Cagiva = Ducati , it is same company. They just stopped before wining decause no more money for competition. After, they prefered to use Ducati because they sold 4T bikes Ducati. This bike is the antecessor of the modern Ducati.
Back in the old days where you could privateer and didn't need several million to keep up with a whole season. My hat's off to those few, final men, going on their own.
Brilliant racing with the feeling of being on the edge of control,, no electronics 100 percent brain power,, and awesome 2 stroke power,, ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Little John was running on rails with that Cagiva. Kosinski was obscenely talented, I suppose the frame on the team roberts yzr just wouldn't work for his particular style. He's actually smaller than king kenny in his prime if thats possible. I remember him saying in an interview, "you can't throw these things around like a 250, a lot more power, all the negative press these things get is a bunch of crap"
Yeeeeesssssssss!!!!! yesssss !!!!!!yessss!!!!!! wwwwwww ALE CAGIVAAAAAAA!!!!!! SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!! E CASTIGLIONI❤❤❤❤ CEEEEEEEE'!!!!!!!!!!!!!🇮🇹 TABURINI!❤❤❤❤❤ SIIIII CAGIVAAAAAA!!!!!!!! Vai Jhoon!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hated to see cagiva go away, had a chance to ride a wmx250 in the late 80's, it was as fast or faster than all four japanese 250s. I was shocked how competitive that bike was, 88 model.
These bikes were under 300 lbs. 160+ whp, a 2500-3000 rpm powerband and the rider was TC, EBC, ABS and wheelie control on meh tire compared to even road tires today. Marquez who?
I ermember this great result on this the best lookin race bike eva and john deserved it he road faultlessly and was not able to find consistency as much as the others brilliant win oerfect race
This is two stroke music. Not sounds. I think the Cagiva, the NSR and RGV were at their best forms. Just beauties!!!! The TZR although it was as fast as the others it wasn't so beautiful. And maybe in the back of the grid i think i saw a KR-1 or not .....
With the Shoei helmets (design borrowed from Kenny Sr.) the design looked more like a chicken than sn eagle. Bell helmets seemed tobhave gotten it tight.
He mentioned being happy to maintain high 31's in interview. Maybe thats all the tyres at the time could manage.. Aus sbk riders lap into low 30's during races and sometimes 29's.
Both MotoGP and superbikes lap much faster today than those 500's did. Race pace on the same tracks, MotoGP bikes are about 8 or more seconds faster, and modern superbikes about 4 seconds faster. Much more power, electronics especially, much better tires and semi-active suspension, much lighter bikes (they add weight to them to meet FIM), etc...
@@langhamp8912 The big improvement is the tires. Those two strokes back in the day were very lightweight machines. I would imagine a 500 cc two stroke with the aid of the modern electronics and tires would still be competitive today.
@@curtisssmith5204 Miguel DuHamel mentioned in an interview that the early crude versions of traction control gave riders who had it an insurmountable advantage over those that didn't have it. Riders with traction control can learn to slip-grip their tires without usually crashing, and like a trapeze artist with a safety net bigger and more impressive stunts can be achieved. Modern riders can race much closer on the edge as true highsides have been mostly eliminated.
John was an amazing rider and to win on the Cagiva was awesome. He deserved so much more riding the 500's
Doesnt get better than that! 0% Electronics 100% Twostroke Power!
Take the electros out and Rossi is still king
it looked like John's bike never shuddered during turns and exiting turns. Steady machine he rode that day.

Thankyou for showing this good quality video. That era of 500’s was the best. 👍

I miss Cagiva! Wish they would return in the MotoGP class like MV Agusta did in Moto2!

When you can tell precisely whose bike it is by the rear brake lever on the handlebars.
The beginner was Mik Doohan, due leg brake. Then many people's discover that is useful to have on hand.
