And if you get too far ahead, you go into a value that the game doesn't think exists, so it sends you all the waay to the opposite side of the map as you left the screen on.
Its not really a "quirk" rather just the game trying to run as efficiently as possible by unloading objects if you can't see since there's really no point in doing so. Remember, this game is on the SEGA GENESIS.
One time, while playing on the gamecube version of Mega Collection, I got shot up so hard and so fast in twilight zone that the game just randomly killed me. This explains why, must have gone so far it warped me into the death plain below the map...

I'm not sure if it's been said already as I've not watched the entire video yet. But the timer starting at the minute mark is probably done on purpose, due to how you can clear some levels in seconds of you do it right. If you clear any level under 30 seconds, you'll get a massive Time Score bonus you'll have to sit through for every act.
The roll is probably weird because the speed most likely works by speeding up time for sonic but slowing everything else down making the roll which im pretty sure works with a different object than sonic move normal speed
