Prasat Kravan is a historical temple located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was built in 921 AD by high-ranking officials under the reign of Harshavarman I or Ishanavarman II, who were kings of the Khmer Empire. The temple consists of five brick towers on a common terrace, facing east. The temple was originally dedicated to Vishnu, one of the main Hindu gods, and his consort Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The most remarkable feature of Prasat Kravan is the bas-relief carvings of Vishnu and Lakshmi on the interior walls of the brick towers. These carvings are unique in Angkor and show the influence of Cham art, which originated from present-day Vietnam. Prasat Kravan is also known as the Cardamom Temple, because of a cardamom tree that used to grow in the central tower. The temple was restored in the 1960s by French and Cambodian archaeologists, who added some new bricks marked with CA (Conservation Angkor). Prasat Kravan is a well-preserved example of early Angkorian architecture and art.
