Toilet bowl doesn't hold water.

  • After flushing, the bowl fills but then the water in the toilet bowl empties too low to function
    UBERhause 4/6 litre dual flush
    I think it's because there is a manufacturer's defect or a crack that allows the water from the bowl to leak into the drain at a lower point than intended

    I am old so I got my daughter to help me put in a new toilet (old tank cracked.) I bought an American Standard and my daughter said I paid too much ($235.00) We followed the instructions to a "T". When we turned the water on and found no leaks we were so proud of ourselves. Then we did a test flush and the bowl began to empty slowly. We found no water leaking on the floor and no additional water emptying from the tank. It was a mystery. We couldn't figure out what we did wrong and where the water was going. THEN I FOUND YOUR VIDEO! Tomorrow we will pull the toilet and do the test you showed. I will sleep better tonight knowing we are not two lame women that simply shouldn't mess with things like this. Now that our confidence is restored we will sleep better. and go at it again tomorrow. THANK YOU!

    This is what I suspected is wrong with my toilet. It fills completely but then the level slowly drops. If I use it again soon, it flushes fine but after an hour or two it doesn't flush properly and it takes two flushes to rid the bowl of waste. I've never heard of this happening before. So... hard as it is to believe, the toilet is leaking. The simple solution is to just go buy a new toilet.

    Yep. Got a brand new toilet. About a month old but it’s siphoning the water and doesn’t flush properly but water poured from bucket will flush toilet. I am pretty sure I also have a problem at the bottom into the sewer as well I’m going to start with the trap at the bottom going into the sewer because I know the flange is below floor level and the tile has cracked so have to pull to replace the tile. My house is pre civil war era and was moved to its current place 65 years ago. Old houses have charm but man do they also have headaches when previous owners half ass did the job.

    when these are still installed and everything is trouble-shooted down to either a crack in the bowl or a vent problem.. the next step is to pull out the water line from the fill tube, and cover the fill tube. i used a piece of tape (doesn't stick well) and my hand to make sure it stayed sealed. If it is a vent problem, the bowl water will drop that extra 1/4" to allow air to go from bowl to drain. you'll even hear the sucking till it gets enough to allow free passage. (the fill tube drops water in the bowl about 1/4" up above the low water line in the bowl, on the other side of hole - and becomes the route for air via trap if its a vent problem). If the bowl water is not sucked down that 1/4" to pull air, then you have a crack. simple as that.

    I know this is an old thread, but I have same issue. The bowl doesn't drain as far as yours, but still does so. With each flush it seems a rush of air (water bubbles back fairly strong) comes from the drain side into the bowl, then it flushes. I don't know if that provides any insight into this but would appreciate any assistance. I'm not able to remove it to test as you did at the moment.

      When the bowl empties, does the tank refill normally?
      If so, perhaps the flap is falling closed too soon.
      The bowl should fill up with the water going under the flap/stopper.

    • @GreggRoberts
      @GreggRoberts 9 месяцев назад

      That's what I originally thought but I get the same result when holding the flapper up. The tank refills normally. If I keep the fill valve open the water level overflows into the fill tube and the toilet fills. The fill tube is placed correctly and when it is running it has no impact. the water level in the bowl won't cause the toilet to run. the tank leaking into the bowl will cause it to run. look inside the tank and see if the flap is sealing properly. these flaps sometimes get damaged from chemical cleaners that hang inside the tank. you will likely need to replace the flap that blocks the water flowing into the bowl.
