  • Communist Vietnam's start-up scene is booming.
Young, highly skilled entrepreneurs are grabbing the attention - and cheque books - of international investors and turning the country into one of Southeast Asia's most exciting breeding grounds for tech innovation.
The country has big ambitions - the government wants to double the number of start-ups to one million in the next five years.
101 East explores how a new generation is rapidly transforming Vietnam from a Communist nation reliant on farming and manufacturing into Southeast Asia's Silicon Valley.

Having worked in 5 different countries in 3 different continents over the past 20 years, I can safely say that Vietnam is the most exciting, vibrant, ambitious, and promising country to work in and a fantastic place for tech startups. The young, highly skilled entrepreneurs have an ambition and hunger that is contagious and inspiring.

@ Chloe. You are being sour and presenting false assumptions. The article you posted did not mention the source of the battery suppliers. Actually, the batteries were not manufactured in Vietnam, but by Chinese suppliers in China. VN receive many parts for the Samsung phones right from next neighbor, China. China manufacture many types of batteries for mobile phones.
"Samsung Electronics did not name the battery suppliers on Monday but previously identified them as affiliate Samsung SDI Co Ltd and China's Amperex Technology Ltd (ATL). SDI said in a statement it would invest 150 billion won ($128.56 million) to improve product safety and expected to continue to supply batteries for Samsung phones."

      Hello@@tawermeister99 ,
The right word NGUYEN actually is like this: NGUYỄN, Do you see the difference between the two?
Therefore the pronunciation is emphasized on the word Ê plus the accent on top of that.
As Aeron Ee said, the pronunciation should be: Ngooyen, hope you will do it right..

Vietnam is still mysterious as the comminist govt clamp down on media..very much like Myanmar..so very few news about vietnam even in other south east asia country...many think its just a chinese like country with strange dialect. Generally..its cities are very crowded....traffic is bad..but not as bad as Manila in trem of abject poverty. Its a relatively highly populated country and relatively poor compared to Thailand and Malaysia, probably on par as Indonesia and Phillipine..so poverty is noticeable in Vietnam. However, ho chi minh city and hanoi are very popular touist destinations thanks to low cost carriers and many south east asian go there to shop for cheap branded clothes from bietnam tectile factories....

5,000 of the 7,000 islands in the Philippines are completely uninhabited (no people on them at all), so how is the Philippines all slums? Most of the Philippines is beaches, forests, and mountains. Only the big cities have slums, like in Manila. But even in the cities, there are parts that are waaaaaay nicer than anything in Vietnam. Look up "Makati" and "Bonifacio Global City" You have nothing in Vietnam that is as nice.
