Love to pair him with Sweat, but that price is steep for a soon to be 30(very good)DE. Unless they could get him for a late round pick like the Allen deal. Bears would be taking on an older player and a lot of money. Next years draft is full of talent. I feel that it's best to be patient and use their draft picks to build depth for the future.

I definitely won't argue if Poles trades for the guy who had 17.5 sacks for the Bengals last year and has averaged 13 sacks a year for the past 4 seasons. Plus we'd have him guaranteed for 2 years before his contract is up, and by today's standards, it's a manageable contract. But he is entering his age 30 season and we have to remember next year the draft will be loaded with DE/Edge talent. I'd hope if there are serious trade talks with the Bengals, Poles wouldn't surrender too much draft capital. Maybe our 2nd round pick (and not the 2nd rd we have from the Panthers). It not because Hendrickson isn't worth more, but again, next year's draft is loaded on the DL side of the coin.

Hellz Yea Poles should trade for Trey Hendrickson if he can. Trey wants guaranteed money in his next contract and that's something Poles would have to consider while maintaining cap space. But! If Trey Hendrickson lined on one edge and Montez Sweat on the other edge would solve a lot of Bears defensive line issues.

I’ve been watching the NFL for quite a long time, and I think that most all people would agree 30 years old is not a prime of your career. It’s actually the beginning of the back end of your career.
Usually when you hit 30 you only get those two your contracts not those for your contracts anything longer is too risky
I did give the example how we brought in Julius Peppers around the same age and he dominated for us

Cause you're getting a for sure thing. The Bears sent #40 for Sweat, who had worse stats than Trey, who has better stats and less pay
I think Trey would be a great fit for the Bears however I think that would be giving up too much for a 29yr old that wants an extension. Especially considering the giants gave up less than that for Brian Burns. Maybe a 3rd next year and another the year after.

Unfortunately, his contract would be too rich for the Bears and the draft potential that would have to be given up. We’re not in our SuperBowl contending window yet, so a 30 year old edge vet with his contract would not necessarily align.
Sign a one year vet like Yannick or the edge from Miami and look to draft or sign a quality FA next year when our contention window is more of a reality.

I don't think the bears trade for any more big contracts this year. They'll have 5-6 million in cap space at most after signing their draft picks. Trading for a big contract forces the bears to renegotiate some deals forces them to start playing shell games with the salary cap this year and next. I think they wait at least a year before going all in like that. We're better off if our all in super bowl window is '25-'28 than if it's '24-.27 before the salary cap starts crushing us and forcing us to get rid of talent

Normally I would say to pull the trigger on this as a win now proposal. The key there is win now. However, the Bears cannot win now. Not with such an uncreative, ultra conservative and frankly dumb HC/DC, that consistently gets out coached virtually every game, personally losing three games last season in NFL record epic collapse fashions.. (having a defensive lineman cover a tight end who then ends up being wide open to catch the winning touchdown pass, really...) If we cannot win the super bowl, that should be the goal, it doesn't pay to be good. All that does is give you poor draft position. Better to be bad until you can be great and win the super bowl, and that will not happen until we get a new head coach that should have happened this year. I am a Poles fan, but he missed a golden opportunity to be great this year by keeping eberflus, and I am afraid that was a fatal flaw.
