- A knocking headset is one of the most annoying things to encounter on your mountain bike, producing telltale vibrations under braking and can make steering difficult. This is usually the result of eroded headset bearings but thankfully there is an easy way to identify and address these issues.

Adjusting the tension on your headset bearings is pretty straightforward. In most cases you will only need a set of hex or allen keys. Follow these simple steps to keep your steering silky smooth, and if none of these tips help, the bearings might require regreasing or replacing.

Electric Mountain Bike Network hi
Hi Tacoma!
Hi
On my 2017 Levo a few times I've noticed slightly "cracking" or "popping" noises coming from the headset area while riding on rough terrain, however the headset was nice and tight. I found that I had to loosen everything and slightly drop the front forks out from the frame, wipe any dirt/dust from the area while being careful not to wipe all the grease from the bearings, and refit everything. Seems to have solved the creaking problem.
Chris, great vid. This is one of the better in-depth videos i've seen on the headset and issues. Thumbs up!
Thanks Mark!
Well done, I've struggled in the past to get this right and eliminate minor movement in the headset. You covered considerations that I was completely unaware of. Pretty sure that my ignorance resulted in my damaging things. Reviewing a good video like this beforehand will likely save $$$. Thanks #EMBN
Really happy we could help Skots Trails to Ales!
