7:19 How I learned to Spydie flick was to get into a normal position with your middle finger but put your thumb on the top so you can load up more pressure with your middle finger, then letting it break through the detent by easing up with your thumb (or just using a lot of force with your finger). Eventually you won’t need your thumb at all…
Interesting…so do you mean putting your thumb on the spine of the handle rather than the top face of the handle? It’s really smooth with the Kizer Mini Roach, but this Para 3 lightweight is not an easy opener like I would’ve expected. I’ve been told it’s because it’s a lightweight. I should get a regular Spyderco and just swap out the pocket with a third party clip.
Kinda like you are pressing the tips of your middle finger and thumb together in the hole, load up pressure with your middle finger by pressing your nail out against the inner edge of the hole (basically you’re using your thumb to stop it from opening until you build a lot of pressure guaranteeing it will fully fire out), eventually you’ll get the mechanics down and won’t need your thumb.
@@LoadoutEDCI have the regular para 3 and it’s not as easy or enjoyable to reverse flick open as any of my kizer knives are. The dang tip chipped on it in less than a week as well 😱
I have the Mini Roach and the Standard Para 3. Both are great and I carry them frequently. My guess is you will get used to the Para 3 action and compression lock. The Para 3 is on washers and should break in. It might take a little getting used to, but it will end up being easy to manipulate with one hand. I personally like the standard Para 3 with the G10 scales, but I would definitely recommend replacing the pocket clip. MXG and Lynch make good titanium clips (I have the MXG).
@@TheTrack800 Thanks for the info! Out of the box, the Mini Roach is great! I just wish I got that same feeling out of the Spyderco. Although maybe the lightweight model isn’t built as well as their others. I like your move. Going with a 3rd party pocket clip. I just wish a nice deep carry clip came standard
8:30 You can get deep carry pocket clips in sorts of styles for the regular PM2/3 from places like Lynch NW or MXG Gear and generic ones from auction places. I’m not a fan of most of the lightweight versions of Spyderco (the exception being the Manix 2 LW, especially now that AWT and OG make aftermarket scales if you wanted to upgrade-rendering the regular Manix 2 an unnecessary expense).
7:35 Yeah, their compression locks are on the backside. There are some little accessories that OCD4EDC channel makes to increase the size of the lock to ease use if that is something you think you might like.
I agree I was disappointed with what Spyderco delivers for the price compared with lots of Kizer knives! The lightweight just feels cheap and the action isn't there.
The LW para 3 doesn’t flick as well as the regular. The regular para three flips easy, and you can get a pocket clip that is deep carry. The Kizer is a good choice, I own several spydies and Kizer knives that are very versatile and fun to use.
I am ready to buy more Kizer knives! This is my first and I cannot believe how great this is for the price! Thanks for the info, I might have to checkout there regular Para or another Spyderco knife and buy a 3rd party pocket clip
That’s awesome! Spyderco or Kizer? I just have to tell myself not to because it’s a seasonal thing. Anything seasonal gets really stale to me when it’s not in season and then feels like a waste
@@LoadoutEDC Kizer Unfortunately it's sold out. I didn't notice until I went back. Maybe they'll do it again this year. As far as seasonal things. Yeah, but Halloween is one of those seasons that sort of transcends to me. And orange handled knives with black blades are common enough. It's just a jackolantern face carved into the middle of the scales.
@@Doughnutt_edc Do many other Spyderco knives use bearings? See I have plenty of knives that don’t use bearings and they are way better than the Para 3
@@mewithknives3481 What are your thoughts on it? I see it doesn’t have a Deep carry clip but it seems to be alright. Is that a thumb lock I see? Considering the action on the Para 3 lightweight being so restrictive, would I expect to see similar with the Manix 2 lightweight?
I second this suggestion (the Manix 2 is my favorite harder use Spyderco-the Kapara being my absolute favorite), plus you can get the CQI lightweight version with removable hardware and upgrade the scales to AWT or OG since they developed scales for it (the LW is subtly different than the regular version).
@@lachtan409 I am still working on finding a good setup where I can run 2 cameras. At the moment I do not have a great way to show two views at once (comfortably). Liner locks are really old and outdated, Compression / Shark / and Axis locks the way to go. The para 3 needs to be broken in and pivot adjusted for better action, you can wait or sand down the washer inside and add some lube. Also Spyderco as a company in no way should be charging that price for the steel provided. For the same amount Hogue offers a Magnacut cross bar lock on the Deka
@@Sway1177 Yeah my problem with liner locks is that it puts my thumb in the way of possibly getting cut. Although I enjoy knives that don’t have buttons and locks on the side.
