These races in the early to mid 80's will always be my greatest memories from the sport. Next is the Mcgrath years and then Bubba's run. I was there in 1983 at the Cotton Bowl.
In the above description, you mention Jeff Stanton racing with Hannah, O'Mara, Bell, Bailey, Johnson, Ward, and Lechien. That's incorrect. Stanton was racing pro in 1983. I think he turned pro in '86 or '87.
Good line by Hannah at 4:34. He was kicking ass that year (1983) his first year on a Honda and should have won the supercross, motocross, and grand national championships. He was leading the points in all three of the categories until he tried doing a triple jump in practice at the Orlando SX and broke his wrist. With that injury he handed over the title to his consistent teammate David Bailey. Bailey earned it though and started winning races that year and always had top finishes. Like they say now days, "You've got to be in it to win it" and Bailey was. Hannah wasn't. I think that was Hannah's last year at ever winning another championship.

Being there and seeing that as a 6 yr old changed my life forever. Touched by the Holy Ghost of Motocross.
Love this than todays 80mph long jump. and watch our riders on the hospital bed
Ron the machine almost won. Love these old school races. The 80s were the best
I was there. First supercross of many I went to. Notice how slick the track was. Hard, wet, clay like surface.
“Like a dog on a piece of meat!”
LOL. I think I attended that race. That’s all I remember the announcer saying all night.
RIP Too Tall...
Omg. How times have changed and the bikes have evolved along with rider skill
And how track building has evolved also.

take a close look at the suspension. They're bottoming out absolutely all over the place.
Check the faces and backsides of the jumps.....you'd have to pull a kiss of death on the takeoff and a swan dive on the landing
Now they double or triple those big jumps
Seems like everyones In the air more than on the ground
I bet Mike Bell has arthritis in his hand now, he had quite a few broken hands.
I think that was his last win. A very underrated rider too. Too bad injuries cut his career short
When I was younger I never realized how annoying the announcer is
