Fun fact hellevator is not their debut song, it was created during the survival reality show of the same name Stray kids was written and produced by 3rach(bangchan, changbin, Han)and was choreographed by Lee know
and another fun fact JYP hated it because it has a female register and was too high for him. as a clapback bang chan made it even higher hihi also this song is definitely about the hell they had been trough in the survival show (ex the elimination of lee know and felix). Also there is a newer Dance Practice with the 8 members that were fate :)

This song is actually their Pre-Debut song & its really emotional for a lot of STAYS. For those of us who've watched their journey from the beginning & the survival show and know of all the challenges & the hardships they overcame to debut. The tears that were shed, the scary moments of possible failure looming & the personal sacrifices they all made separated from friends & family for years, this song hits differently. Imagine moving to another country at 13 with absolutely no one just to chase your dream. Bang Chan who wrote this song with the help of Han & Changbin didnt see his family for almost 3 years at one point. I respect the fact that the memebers write their own music with their own experiences & emotions in those songs. When you feel like someone else is going through something similar you feel like ur not alone in the world. This song is really about going through hell as trainees to achieve their dreams. They are in hell now but they are on their way up. Essentially this is a "Phoenix Rising From The Ashes" trope. They are expressing what they've been through and everything in the song is building to a higher place including the chord progression. They are heading straight up despite what they've been told, they pushed through & never gave up & now are heading all the way up aka success. Last year they did an updated dance practice video to this song for their anniversary & I cried my eyes out seeing how far they've come. This song is an embodiment of perseverance through hard times. While I enjoy happy upbeat music at times as well, this is still my go to song when I'm in a fight for my life or struggling with something personal. It's my I won't fail or let you break me song, as I'm sure it is for a lot of Stays. ❤ Hope this helps. 🥰
Yes, they can ALL sing and do it all and this was not even debut. Their japanese albums have strong vocals, but their mvs have no subtitles.

1. Levanter - this was the 1st album when they became 8 and the song just hits!
2. Scars - Japanese mv so no subtitles but you can watch "The First Take" live then the mv.

To further what others have already said... This was written, composed, produced, arranged, recorded, choreographed, and of course performed by.... 3RACHA/Stray Kids. As was all the songs on their predebut mini album. (AND OVER All of which was not only done during their "road to debut" reality show, it was also done under EXTREME pressure AND a MASSIVE time crunch. They had A WEEK for each track. Start to finish, brainstorming, song creation, song recording, choreography, to MV/performance video filming. They basically didnt sleep that entire survival show...

This is from their survival show and pre debut I.N. was 16 I think and Han, Felix, etc were only 17 they did everything made the beats the lyrics and the choreo so much talent. Each song they made tells the story of their journey as they discover who they are.
funfact, the audio they were using in the dance practice is the guide/demo version so its basically contained only few members' voices (including 3RACHA and mostly Han doing all of the singing parts)

They have a diverse discography. I love the intellect, cleverness and creativity in songs. They have a very organic,fresh and unique sound. They didn't limited themself and explore the new side of music. You see so many new, refreshing and experimental sounds in their music. They explore different genres and express different emotions and touch so many important subjects like social pressure , anxiety, mental health, loneliness, depression insomnia etc.
They break many stereotypes in music. The more you listen to them the more you admire and become addicted to them and respect them more as artists. The music they made is connected with people with beautiful messages , inspiration and motivation . ❤❤❤
As others have said, this song was not their debut song. Hellevator is very meaningful because it was one of the project missions during their survival show, Stray Kids.
As you may already know, SKZ members were chosen not by the company but by Bang Chan himself. They were then told they had a certain amount of time to prove they were ready to debut as a group, and a survival show was filmed during that time. The lyrics reflect the hell they were put through during that show.
Their debut song, District 9, is also meaningful because the M/V concept is breaking out of a facility where everything is sameness and colourless. I have always understood this video and the song lyrics to be their statement that they were not going to copy and paste the traditional K-Pop style but were going to follow their own creativity, which was eventually recognized as SKZ's own sound, the Mala Taste genre.
But they were mere teenagers carrying the responsibility of making or breaking the group's success, so a lot of their early songs reflect whatever they were struggling with or was in their minds at the time.
I don't know if you guys read the comments here. There are 2 points I want to share. 1). This isn't their debut song. 2). They just make a dance practice of this song last year with the 8 members version and that show how much improvement of their performing skills. It will be a better choice for you to watch.

Edit: ITS NOT THEIR DEBUT SONG, its their pre-debut song, created during their survival show. 3racha (Bangchan, Changbin and Han) produced the song and Lee know choreographed it. Their debut song is District 9, which is another banger. Check it out too, you'll love it for sure
