    L4-L5 disc bulged exactly a month ago due to poor form while working out. I'm yet to turn 25 and this injury has bogged down my mental health sooo much. 😢
    Nerve compression sucks. Going to a physio currently, hopefully I will recover soon and get back to normal life asap.

    Lifting a heavy box from the floor to above my head, onto a pallet loaded with boxes, while rotating is how I initially injured myself. Someone was supposed to help me, but he didn't show. I wish I'd never done, because more than 10 years later, I still have not fully recovered.

    I can confirm that bending and twisting is harmful for lumbar problems. I have experienced pinched nerve problems several times in the past 50 years after making that movement.

    Hm, interesting. My doc told me to sleep on a side and in no way on my belly or back, as supposedly sleeping on a side provides most "room" , for spinal stenosis. I have stenosis of L4 btw. Tks for the great and informative video.

    My condition was flared by loss of tendon & ligament damages as well. My Chiropractor measured my spine and took X-rays while I was standing up. This changed the whole picture that showed that my hip was out for a long time after initial ER X-rays.

    Thanks Dr. Frank for detail analyze of all cases. It is very helpful for understanding reasons of problems. Do you have data regarding slumped sitting?
    I have L4-L5 bulging disc and I feel that I want to sit in slumped position. It looks as body try to avoid pain when sitting straight.

    • @drfrankaltenrath
      @drfrankaltenrath  Год назад +6

      Thanks for the question. It is true that our bodies look to avoid pain and go into antalgic postures. However it is also the case that if we slouch for many years our ligaments on the front of the spine can become adaptively with shortened and the discomfort you feel when sitting straight is the shortened ligament being stretched to its normal length. Also when you arise from a seated position with a bulging disc it often hurts as the bulge is being compressed. I wish you well🙏

    • @drfrankaltenrath
      @drfrankaltenrath  Год назад +3

      Help Claire,
      That’s a tough one. Tailbone injuries are very painful and not much can be done. I would recommend that because I don’t know your case personally that you consult with your doctor who understands your condition better. As I always say…the body can heal so keep a positive outlook and consult with someone that understands your issues first hand. Thanks for sharing🙏

    Dr. Altenrath, I’ve been playing competitive racquetball for 25 years. I am almost 49. I recently had an X-ray, so far, that indicated multilevel spondylosis most pronounced at L5 S1. I’ve rested for about a month and half, stretched and did some core strengthening. Haven’t started PT yet. I need to get back to playing- any advice would be great. Thank you

    • @drfrankaltenrath
      @drfrankaltenrath  Год назад +3

      Thanks for the question. I would first seek out a corrective care chiropractor or another therapist that can analyze and measure your spinal alignment. We know that structure determines function so make sure the structure is aligned before doing any exercise. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks Dr Frank for your detailed explanation. I have L5-S1 buldged disc. I've been having pain since mid Nov last year. I do know that the sitting caused buldged disc. I sit ( used to) long hours due to the nature of my work. I've been doing streching excercises and I 'm slowly progressing but sleeping is an issue. I sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs or on my back with a pillow under my legs as you show in the video. I can get 3-4 hrs sleep but not more because my leg hurts so much. I've been seeing a chiropractor since April ( foolshly not earlier) and my mobility improved a lot but I struggle with sleep. My chiropratcor said that I came to see him after the last minute and it would take time to recover. Do you have any advice how to improve sleeping? Thank you

    • @drfrankaltenrath
      @drfrankaltenrath  Год назад +4

      My advice would be to make sure you have your alignment checked to take stress off of the back, but because I do not know your specific clinical picture I would talk to your doctor that is treating you. Thanks for sharing and I wish you a speedy recovery.

    If you’re back is at 100% when standing, should you be laying on your back with a pillow under your legs most of the time and how long a day?

    • @drfrankaltenrath
      @drfrankaltenrath  Год назад

      If your back is 100% you don’t have to lay with a pillow under your legs although for prevention sleeping with you spine in a neutral position is always better. Thanks for sharing
