India, Nepal and Bhutan already have a that kind of trade, tourism and cooperation treaty. Like the Indians can travel to Nepal and Bhutan without the need of any visa/passport. There are lakhs of Indians living in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Birgunj, and numerous other cities of Nepal doing various kinds of businesses. Indians of every ethnicity like Biharis, Bengalis, Punjabis, Marwaris, Gujaratis, Kashmiris, Oriyas, Kannadigas, Keralites can be seen on the streets of New Road, Lazimpat and Thamel in Kathmandu.
Nepali language is also one of the 16 languages recognised by Indian constitution
And any international traveler that comes to Bhutan needs to come via India

This idea came thousand times in my head but I also thought it’s not possible yet if Pakistan army remains in power!! I believe India is flexible because India need very close friends too and a block like GCC or Europe against Europe and USA and China. But it will take it 50 more years I guess

This concept can be truly successful for BIMSTEC countries( India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, SL, Nepal etc..) but not in SAARC and the reason is Pakistan itself.

There was a time when India used to say same thing to Pakistan, we should trade and then resolve disputed issue. But Pakistan being Pakistan engaged in proxy war. And now train has left the station.

IND to Mayanmar to Thailand a highway which is 70% completed. Ind nepal has the relationship of Roti and Beti. Ind-china trade is $130billon although border issues are there. Ind provided $3.8 billion assistance to sri lanka & also provided rice and medicine. Ind provided 50,000 metric tonne wheat to Afghanistan in crucial time. Ind-Bhutan ties are also very good.

I have crossed Indo Nepal border several time on foot ..never faced a problem. There are wedding processions that go from one side to other alot which I have witnessed and it's one of the easiest borders to cross for Indians and Nepalis alike.
I guess alot of hope was lost with two nation theory, a separation that politically hasn't aged well and the whole region suffers.

I lost two friends in that attack. We Indians will NEVER EVER EVER, ease relations with Pakistan. Even if it benefits us initially (which I doubt). Let Pakistan rot in the situation it is in now and what will happen of it in 10 years. As India continues to grow, the requirement of Pakistan further declines (I highly doubt whether any requirement for it ever existed for India).

It would be too optimistic to think pakistan would behave properly in SAARC. SAARC is past India is focusing on BIMSTEC, it is future and giving great results. India is building roads from kolkata to mayanmar to thailand and may join vietnam. While pakistan is asking for 3 billion loan, India has given loan of worth 12 billion dollar to south east asia(32 billion dollar to world)

My Grandparents used to live in Bangladesh area before partition. There were many Muslims in his neighborhood but their first identity was Bengali. No one cared about each other's religion until they were radicalized and started supporting partition.
He abandoned everything there and never went back for a visit.

The only reason why EU Works is cuz of its Secular nature. Until we have "islamic republics (think Pakistan)" and "Sharia (think Afghanistan)" there is no hope for collaboration with India. Also India probably has little to gain forming part of a group where others are decades behind its progress.

As an Indian teen I don't want unification. Instead I just wish Europe like open border for travel nd trade in whole South Asia in future. I have been to Kathmandu Nepal twice by road nd never faced any difficulty, have many nepali friends here in Delhi. And hoping to visit Pakistan like this by road atleast till I reach my retirement😅

I don't know if this is coming to any good but Bangladesh and India have already started Taka-Rupee transactions where you can send Bangladeshi Taka to India, it will be converted into Indian Rupee and vice versa. I am optimist that soon we can go for single currency in all over SAARC, naming SAURO or South Asian Rupee In Sha Allah and without any visas, we can travel around the countries within even with you own vehicle with same Driving License and no Carnet like the EU and GCC.
It can be possible only if Indians become more welcoming and kind hearted towards tourists...not just western tourists...but people from all around the world.

What other south asian countries need to learn from india is to chose leaders wisely who are focused on institutional efficiency and then proceed to work towards united south asia. It can be achieved by establishing joint civil services institution. Hoping for better future together!

South Asia is rapidly integrating minus Pakistan. Bangladesh-India is already connected by trains, Buses, Electricity grid, Oil pipeline, and now even rupee trade instead of dollar. So is the case of Nepal, Bhutan with India.

🤔think the primary diff is that whole of EU is primarily Christian and whole of Gulf islamic and the difference between India and Pak is that Pak is islamic with ambitions of converting India to islamic State and India is secular.. I am from Mumbai, I lost many friends and family in 26/11 attacks that was coordinated with Pakistani intelligence. The common man of my city was harmed. Many poor people, fathers, mothers, sons. I lost two friends in that attack. We Indians will NEVER EVER EVER, ease relations with Pakistan. Even if it benefits us initially (which I doubt). Let Pakistan rot in the situation it is in now and what will happen of it in 10 years. As India continues to grow, the requirement of Pakistan further declines (I highly doubt whether any requirement for it ever existed for India).

Bro as an indian i can confirm that nepal is passport and viza free country for india we have road and railway transport which connects us, Infact many indians go for vacations in nepal.
Bhutan is viza free some times passport free we only need voter identity for identification
Bangladesh is also viza free country for india and in some places we do not have borders.
We have very good relations with our neighbors in terms of trade, tourism, and politics, and this is only possible becoz they also wanted the same thing ❤
But in Case of PAKISTAN it didn't happen just becoz of Army Dominance in Politics of Pakistan whenever we tried to improve our relations we always got backstabbed infact some times when PM of Pakistan tried to improve relations with india they faced consequences.

Let's talk sense:
- Bangladesh is a country that is doing well economically. As our economies grow, I would love India to have a more integrated economic and military setup with Bangladesh. Same with Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Each one of them has something to give to the 1.5 bn Indian market. I would want a NATO like setup with these regions with common military hardware and cross training. I think it would happen coz people are forward looking and there is trust.
- What can Pakistan & Afghanistan give to India? What does Pakistan & Afghanistan make? I am looking for products and services. I am not looking for population as India already has a huge population. From the outside, I see tribal societies where men roam around with guns, where society runs on 'might is right', both lawless lands.
From your argument, it seems the whole of the taxpayers money from these progressive subcontinent regions will be accumulated and it has to be shared with Pakistan and Afghanistan. Why? What are you guys giving us? In India we are already doing it for some of the North Indian states with huge population. We are feeding them while they are busy with religious & caste politics. At least they are giving us cheap labor. We do not want the Pakistani religious fanatics to add to the number of fanatics we already have. For Pakistan, I would say fix your basics first. One of the reason due to which EU was formed because average size of EU countries are very small and containing its economy in their premises didn't allowed them to tap into bigger european market without facing any hurdles .Backbone of any union is its economy, if there was no economic benefit then EU wouldn't have existed in first place. This is not the case with south asia, almost all the coutries have huge population for its size and hence the market is big enough for fast paced economic growth. Luckily for india, we are sort of a EU on our own with our 29 states and are almost all the size of an average european country. We don't benefit from a unified south asia that much (economically) and rather it would be a national security disaster for us. I am sure that if pakistan was on right path then it would also not need any union to grow and prosper.

Well if you look at it not from a EU or GCC lens but a bit differently South Asia is already united in some sense except for Pakistan, India as the bigger economy helps all the smaller nations in their growth, we have almost free borders with all the countries since travel is very accessible to the point that there's a no VISA policy with Nepal. India also helped Srilanka and Bangladesh in their times of crises and provides Afghanistan with all the help that it can. It's only Pakistan that idk has some superiority issue where they feel they have to one up India in every thing while in reality cant compete at any front.
Honestly as Indians we've found our way to the top, we know we have a long way to go but we're certainly on the right track. If anybody expects us to bow down, those days are long gone. Pakistan needs to come out of its ideological bubble and accept the realities of the time, that the "war" is over now and the winner has been decided and it's not Pakistan.
You can't go around and call the PM "the butcher of xyz" irrespective of his politics, good or bad, at the international stage where he represents 1.4B people and then somehow expect peace or trade because it suits you. It's high time come down the high horse and look within, we're good with or without you.
