You got dual card slots, IBIS ( which is okay) , a 7K sensor and doesn't overheat. Find at a good price , combine in with a Speed booster like I did and your gold.
I caught this weird video. Almost all of your videos are negative. Why it took you 2 years to finally buy this camera.? Then you don’t know how to use it or why you would choose this over full frame.
@ The R7 has its place. I own most of the Canon Full Frame cameras. I use the R7 just as much for wildlife for the crop and 32mp. Really great at that.
I bought the R7 body as a lens extender. Paired with the RF 100-500 mm lens it gives me a light, fast, kit for shooting birds. I probably have over 35000 exposures in all types of weather conditions and the camera performed flawlessly. I have used Canon full frames for twenty years and had no problems adapting to the control layout on the R 7. For a fourteen hundred dollar camera body I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance of the camera. I do use a Canon full frame camera for shooting for travel editors and writers.
I love / hate these darn cameras :) lol In your description, you said they have "a bunch of things going for them" ? I disagree. I'd say they have "1" huge thing going for them.... and it's not "a little more reach" as you stated. It's a LOT more reach ! 60% more actually. And it is for this one reason, and ONLY this reason, that I HAVE to shoot with the R7. I've taken somewhere approaching 400K shots with my original one. I own two of them. and they are a PITA ! The focus is not very consistent, at least compared to virtually every Full Frame model on the market. It sucks they never had a battery grip. The readout speed is very slow, so they are not great for BIF. Lots of rolling shutter issues. (which fortunately, is not really my thing anyway). Yes, you can use EFCS to avoid shutter roll, but the mechanical shutter in this camera is just atrocious. It's loud, and slappy, causes LOTS of shutter shock issues, and it literally beats itself to pieces. Don't believe me ? Do a search on R7 mechanical shutter failures. I quit using my MS shutter altogether to preserve the life of my cameras. BTW, my first mirrorless camera was the R5. It was a better camera in almost every way, as one might expect for a $4K camera. However, even with a 45 megapixel sensor, I was often doing 100% crops, and sometimes, that wasn't even enough. So I rented an R7, and loved it. Then the R5 sat collecting dust. Finally, I sold it and bought a second R7. Best decision for the stuff I shoot (98% small, skittish perched birds) Long story short; I don't say the R7 is "my best choice", but rather, "Its my only choice". SO hoping Canon steps it WAY up with the R7 Mk II.
Yep - reach is definitely a big deal, especially for your type of shooting! I love to hear the perspectives of all different kinds of photographers/creators in these comments. Just goes to show there’s no one-size fits all in the camera world!
Yep...pixel density allowing more reach is why I bought one. Plus i already had APSC lenses. Sigma and canon. The Sigma 18-35 Art is a fantastic lens on the R7. And with a speedbooster i have so many different options using my full frame lenses. I also still have a 6D full frame camera. So plenty of EF lenses too.
Sigma 10-18 or Tamron 11-20 that’s the sweet spot wise lenses for apsc. Opted for the r10 instead mainly for street photography. Wanted a lighter camera without that funky control dial.
It was because the original idea was a replacement for the elderly but "quality" 7D Mk2. Unfortunately, by the time it hit the shelves it was the chocolate teapot we see today.
Why not? A full frame is not necessarly better than an APS-C. The R7 is better suited for professional use (I'm taking wildlife) with the dual cards slots, the much better battery life and IBIS. On one end you have a high end APS-C, on the other end you have an entry level FF camera.
I own the R7 body as a lens extender for wildlife and for greater depth of field shooting macro photography. And 32 mega pixel APSC sensor gives you the same amount of detail as an 80mp full frame sensor, so you have plenty of crop room. I still prefer my full frame bodies for all other work. That’s why for some types of photography I use the R7.
@paullanoue5228 Which from what I see on some forums is what plenty of people do. The R7 isn't all things for all seasons, Canon probably made a few too many compromises, but plenty are happy with it, especially at that price point. I'm still unsure about getting one to replace/add to 90D but find the body small in the hand. Canon have promised a more upmarket ASP-C camera but I'm sure it will be more pricey
The RF-S 10-18mm might solve your wide angle problem. The R8 is great except it has no IS. If your lens doesn't have IS than you are stuck with using shorter shutter speeds to make up the difference.
The 10-18 definitely would give you that wider angle, but I’ve heard the image quality on those RF-S lenses don’t really compare to the high-end L series glass :( There’s always a trade-off!
@@JosephMartin I only have minimal experience with my RF-S 18-150 lens. I was pleased for what I paid for the lens. I only have one L lens left, after selling my EF 300 F2.8 L lens, and that is the EF 24-105mm F4 L lens. Both of those L lens are very good, but the non-L lens don't suffer too much, IMO, in IQ from those L lens. Than again, I'm not a pixel peeper, nor do I intended to sell any of my work. YMMV
Actually love this camera . I use EF full frame lenses with a Speed booster so the crop is never a problem . When I do use 60 fps what I do to manage the cropping issue is adding a wider lens to get the look I want
The production value on your RUclips videos is noticeably top notch. It's refreshing to see someone who has great gear use it to it's capabilities. I don't know if this will translate to channel success but I can appreciate your efforts. Most just talk about gear, you actually demonstrate what it does. Keep it up. I enjoy watching.
You really missed the point here. The camera was designed to replace the 7D Mk2 / 90D. When Canon delivered it...... they no longer mentioned this and there are good reasons for this. Firstly, the sensor that delivers 30 fps, also provides hideous rolling shutter because of the ultra slow read out. So your subject is best if it is still. Secondly, the buffer between the data read out and the card is minute. So it backs up very quickly at 30 fps. You best run it at 15 fps (much like the 10 year old 7D Mk2). And lastly, the cheap feel to it is mirrored by the poor weather sealing. So in the UK, indoor shooting is recommended. But to be fair to Canon EU they will repair your rain soaked camera at only 2/3 the retail price of a new R7.... bargain no? Alternatively, you could purchase a 40fps APSC camera with a stacked sensor, grade A weather sealing and a huge buffer........ but that would mean leaving the Cult of Canon and assuming a new identity.
I really like this camera, even though I bought an R5MII. I removed the infrared filters so as to get a full-spectrum camera and now use it for infrared photography.
In 4k fine mode, the R7 rolling shutter is 29ms. In 60p and 60p crop mode, the rolling shutter is faster dropping to 15ms. In 60p and 60p crop mode, Canon efs 15-85mm lens is a good choice for video.
Sigma RF is APSC so crop factor is no longer problem. I have 30mm 1.4 RF and it’s perfect.
Eh??? That's not how it works. An APSC lens basically projects a smaller image circle. You will still only get 48mm output with that Sigma 30mm.
