It's definitely not necessary, but I do see advantages in being able to run steeper crossovers and able to tweak the signal levels. I think most folks would do a set of separates instead of coaxial though, so you can get the tweeter position and angle better.
The issue with doing just a tweeter up on the dash is that the midrange/midbass is buried down in the kick panel and sunk back quite far. So you really have to do some kind of midrange/tweeter combination up high in order to get any kind of a sound stage. Obviously with going active on those you get to control each individually with x overs, level and signal delay (time alignment)
...It is my brand of choice for the past few installs...I was kind of glad to see that Dean was also confounded by the software. I also was confused by it. Fortunately, they have excellent tech support.
9:08 Wow, I haven't heard the Jurassic Lunch track in forever. Not since I switched from CDs to MP3s. I've got the original Telarc version. That Terminator track is great as well. I enjoyed all my Telarc discs.
I was gonna say he seems super tired like it's the end of a long day. Or maybe even the beginning of the day and he isn't fully woken up. This might have been filmed right after he came back from sema and was super tired.
Jurassic Lunch! I remember that from reading Car Stereo Review
The bi-amping of the 4" coaxials I think is really cool and something I will most likely be trying soon.
