Ahhh someone gets it, it's a RETRO radio....being almost 70 i can testify that compared with sound from an iPhone, that muffled sound is sorta spot on how a lot of old radios sounded. So good on Lego for getting that detail right 😀
Or would want to be Lego. Someone who is into retro appliances, cameras, typewriters,...radios wants a specific model and brand, preferably working or mendable. This is as if Lego released something that loooks like an AT-AT, but simply isn't and doesn't have the branding. No one would want that. Lego trains always failed, because they couldn't get the accuracy or branding needed to fit the appeal to trainspotters. And the few actual branded trains went well, but never had the track system
@@Matt..Snah I'm into retro appliances and love all these lego versions for what they are. They're not really there to replace the real ones but more for display alongside them!
To be fair, 900 piece for $100 is a lot better than I would have expected. I was thinking it was going to be $110-120 because of the sound brick. Also, the technical aspect of the build for how small it is impressive. So a $100 dollar price point is a fair value. Definitely a better value when it’s on sale for fifteen percent off.
I look at Lego in 2 categories: builders vs non-builders who are here for the aesthetics. I am in the latter category and love the sound. It sounds retro, so it fits into the theme- honestly, the fact that there's sound at all is awesome! On my birthday wishlist. And yes, I plan on getting the typewriter as well
That is a truly impressive set! That is super well designed, and the sound brick is interesting! It doesn't really appeal to me as a buyer. But it is really cool!
The set doesnt come with paper bags. Lego specially sent you version with paper bags as a LAN member so it looks good for them. Paper bags are not a thing yet in North America so this is not indicative of what the on shelves product (In North America) will be.
Seemed like a nice set. It is a reto set so muffling the sound didn't seem like a big deal. Might have been a problem had they not thought to have a way to store a phone for more music choices
I believe this misalignment is intentional. AM channels will differ from FM channels with their expanded frequencies. I’ve noticed that with some radios growing up
He was describing the vertical misaligned of the horizontal lines on two adjacent tiles - the printing on the large tile did not aligh with the tile to its right. You are right that AM and FM tuning marks don't align and the reasons for that, but that wasn't the issue here.
Can you start giving two recommendations at the end? One if price is a factor, and one if it isn't? For some of us, price doesn't matter. We just want to know if it's cool and worth buying. For others, I know price is super important. On this one for example, you could give your original review and say you don't recommend, but then say "If you're not concerned by price then..." Is it worth getting if price isn't an issue? My issue isn't price, it's display space lol.
when you breathe air, make sure to breathe it in and then out, and then let's talk about air and all for over 6 minutes and make lots of statements and observations about that air, how one breath may be more valuable than the other and all sorts of things... what do you think about those breaths of air, is it the first or the second more refreshing... I don't know, comment your thoughts on that below....
This relies on a gimmick which while interesting, just doesn't really work that great and you're only gonna use it once and not touch it again until you show it off to someone who's visiting you, which dimishes the value of this greatly. It also costs almost as much as, or the same as a lot of sets that granted don't have the gimmick of the Retro Radio but they are a lot larger or more interesting and drastically better value. This is £90 in the UK, which is the same as the massive Technic VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship, The Lunar New Year Family Reunion Celebration, the 25th Anniversary version R2-D2, and the recently announced and interesting Tuxedo Cat. I'd rather take any of those over the radio.
Plus, for anyone that actually wants a functional retro radio, it’s easy to find one on eBay for much cheaper.

@@Legomyegoorj this is such a weird point with these sets though (like typewriter, pac-man arcade etc). No one in their right mind who is buying this expects to get a radio comparable to the real thing in terms of functionality. This is for lego fans who want a cool-looking lego model of a piece of retro history.
I guess that makes sense but then why even include the soundbrick? I’ll be the first to say that the build experience is one of the three top reasons I love Lego as a hobby, but Lego is asking for $100 for a set mostly because of that weird sound brick, that mimicked the feel of a radio without any of the functionality actual, proper functionality. As OP points out, this could have been designed to be smaller, and without the sound brick, or IMHO as essentially a facade (completely open back) so you can hide a real Bluetooth speaker behind it. That could have been MUCH cheaper and combined with the cost of the Bluetooth speaker if that matters to you, a better deal. I’m not saying this is a bad set, I just think it’s a tall ask, value-wise, even considering the totality of LEGO’s increasingly-difficult tall asks.
I really dont see the point in lego sets as expensive as what they are copying. It's a bit fun but generally objects are not fun personnaly, especially for a plastic counterpart.
Hey I'm VERY glad the videos have stopped slamming boxes on the table. Not even a box lover/collector here and it still pains some of us to see them handled that way, even if given free by Lego.
For that price, It would have been cool if they made it a working radio.......... And and writing this I realize it kinda sorta is, and now I must have it 😂.... And it keeps getting better!! Smartphone..geez! Gotta have it!!
Lego is only going backward in electronics. Still bogles me how 9v electronic light and sound sistem was the perfect tool and since .. well, since we are geting an overly expensive piles of cr.p I woud love to get it if they simply developed a BT reciever. The price of tech is waaaaaay down that in the '80 and '90, even2000s So good job Lego! 😂😂😂
There 100% IS a current Lego Ideas "Vintage Radio" set by user dimexart, down to the ability to insert a phone to play music. His design is very close to 10,000 votes and now has exactly 0 chance of getting selected. I have to assume it was simply a parallel idea by Lego and dimexart, and not a stolen concept, but nevertheless the two are heavily similar. Lego has every right to do whatever they want with submissions to their platform in the first place, but I can't help feeling bad for dimexart and the mountain of work he's put in - 10k votes is a massive undertaking when you aren't already an influencer or online creator.
@benjaminjackson8663 Hey, I have noticed the same thing but dimexart have already reaching 10000 votes one time and wasn't approved. This is the second time he posted this idea.
I think they made this a a perfect time especially with the fallout tv show release you get a little bit of that retro magic in a really nice set. I usually only get Lego Star Wars but this will be a fine addition to my collection
I built this set and if you put a small speaker such as a JBL Go-2 that I used in the radio instead of an iPhone sound muffling problems are non-existent
I love that it muffles the sound slightly as it does feel more retro. Solid set! Going to add it to my 'To Buy' (where most sets live these days).

Just buy the radio.
"it looks big in the pictures but in reality we're only talking 9inches"
Talk about a size queen...
Thank both of yall for a good laugh lol
Thats what she saidd
📏 9️⃣ 😬. 9” is nothing to sneeze at.

Certainly something you couldn’t tell is lego from a distance

I see your point, but a good amount of pieces are the 1x2 grill pieces.
Okay but I need a full version of the Everything is Awesome instrumental
I definitely like the muffled sound more. Especially as someone who doesn't enjoy music cranked to the max. But that's just me!
the muffled sound makes it feel like a real radio, basically
@@WORLD_OF_CALEB_OFFICIAL Agreed
2:55 Is this the "Everything is awsome" music from the Lego Movie?! Okay, I need this set.
The song is called Cinematic by Gamma Skies.
TY
Great set
Sound brick makes it better, phone integration is great
Going to play Welcome To Nightvale through this.

2:56 everything is awesome
I prefer the sound with it in the set!
all I wanted was everyday is awesome to play, and I was not disappointed hahahaha
Very cool designed set! Looks good, as well! The only thing I would change is colour theme.
it would be cheaper to buy the actual radio its based off
When its muffled it sounds old and retro which is fitting
To be fair though it’s still way better value than the HP Sorting Hat. If you want a sound brick this is the one from those two choices I feel.
That is a truly impressive set! That is super well designed, and the sound brick is interesting! It doesn't really appeal to me as a buyer. But it is really cool!
Set: 2 out of 10
Song: 10 out of 10 (Cinematic by Gamma Skies)
Thank you! I was wondering what song it was.
Thank you for the sound comparison :)
Am I the only one who heard “everything is awesome” in that country song bit 😅?? Honestly pretty cool if it is lol.
It is
Yep!

Sold. The price is justified due to no stickers. I believe it sounds like an old radio. Just need to change the color and fix the antenna.
That sound brick makes the set it’s so cool.
You know you wanna drop that Barud-Dur review😊
Seemed like a nice set. It is a reto set so muffling the sound didn't seem like a big deal. Might have been a problem had they not thought to have a way to store a phone for more music choices
Would’ve been cool to collaborate with Bethesda and create a Fallout inspired radio.
Muffled sound is lore accurate and probs to lego for trying to stay true for all the radio fans out there.
i adore this set
this is such a fun idea tho, might have to pick it up
i mean, if you put the phone speaker near the opening on the front you would have better sound

how ever it's possible. it brings down the trashiness a phone normally brings. the muffle is maybe awesome.
Everything is awesome ?!
I wish it actually worked

Did you try rotating your phone 180 Deg? Just wondered if the speaker orientation might make a difference on the muffling
This is rather cool
The price is right due to,the sound brick and it plays exactly muffled as it it should be in reality ( back then) 😂
Thank you for the video.
What was that song????
A 60s guitar cover of Everything Is Awesome :)
Is there room in the back to allow the cable for a smart speaker to go in to it?
Funny how the box I got from Lego looks completely different.
Wish it had a tuner to receive radio stations…….
What song is it tune on I phone
Come on LEGO, including actual radio parts and a cheap speaker in this would have cost at most 5 dollars
Awesome 😎
My childhood friends, sisters husband designed this set. this sounds like a joke of some kind but it's actually not lol
A light seagreen color….. I’d say ‘turquoise ‘
Sound brick should come with bluetooth

Okay, first off, how dare you
Secondly…… yeh

I don't really understand the point.
Pass
Thing sounds like crap, wish they had spent an extra $0.75 to make it have a real speaker/preamp and a real radio in it
nice set, but an easy pass for me.
dumbest set ever.
Oh wait. I have the typewriter.
That sound brick in a Star Wars set…. I see potential
Would have been amazing paired with the helmet series.
Would look good next to the roller skate 3-1 set
I really wasn't planning on getting this set but that sound brick with the instrumental version of Everything is Awesome is making me want it
I've got an urge to buy this and put a smart speaker or Bluetooth speaker in it.
Yep, cool design. So much detail ! 📻
They should do a not totally expensive BT enabled sound brick option and I believe, it would sell.
Yes, that would been a better option.
Yeah at first when I heard "sound brick" I thought it was a small BT speaker.
my words exactly!
lego is only going back im electronics.

Strong Fallout vibes :)
thank you so much for the thorough review!!!!!!!! highly appreciate it 🙏🏻
Gonna play some fallout songs with that thing.
Surely could have incorporated a real FM/AM radio into it.
Not a fan, personally, but then I worked 15 years for a radio manufacturer... Interesting mechanics though.

Hi can the google nest mini fits inside the radio? thank you
Not quite usefull but pretty cool nonetheless
put a bluetooth speaker inside the radio😂, then it becomes a real music player

Bizzare lego did this before a turntable
