I remember Joss Weedon saying he had made fun of mimes before, but the actors doing the Gentlemen were on top form throughout. With everyone gushing about the wordplay in the scripts, he did this one with only 15 mins of dialogue and it was superb. You are absolutely right about filming silent actors. It takes a lot to get a point over with just facial expressions. Alyson Hannigan had that in spades here. She could have made it big in silent movies.

Ah the "oh holy crap" reaction of seeing the Gentlemen for the first time.

This episode is about domestic sexual abuse. Think about it. Creepy men invading your bedroom, doing weird stuff to you, doing the hush-gesture and the only way to end it is to, well, talk.

It can be seen that way, but I think it's much more broadly applicable than that - any time something frightening and violent happens, and people choose not to speak up and not to act, even when they're in the position to do so, in order to protect themselves. And the way people exploit that fear (the guy with the small white boards, for instance, was reminiscent of the people who were out selling American flags after 9/11 at outrageous prices).

"conversate" xD I like this episode especially the witch moment of moving the machine in front of the door that was epic but the baddies never scared me like they scared a lot of people. idk i found them to be cool and funny more than scary. and riley is so cute.

I thought it was because people told him that the only good part of his writing was the witty dialogue so he decided to make this episode as a challenge

I completely understand, the gentlemen are the only monsters I've ever been able to take seriously and they scare me to hell. This is one of Buffy's best episodes and yeah, Reilly is really boring and not very likable.

Hope you didn't have nightmares. You're a big girl.
So many good reactions to this. "They've got teeth that go on for days," so funny! I have to admit when you're really scared at creepy stuff, like The Gentlemen, I both feel for you and also really enjoy it at the same time. A conflicted guilty-pleasure.
My University in England didn't have a wicker group, that I'm aware of.
    The Gentlemen clapping, so Joss.
"I don't have a dirty mind." Much evidence to the contrary.
