The Solomon Islands held a general election last week, and it was seen as a referendum on China. Over the last 5 years, prime minister Manasseh Sogavare has brought the Solomon Islands closer to China. In September 2019, just months after taking over, Sogavare decided to stop recognising Taiwan, and instead ally with China. In 2022, Sogavare singed a secret security pact with China, the details of which still haven't been made public. Last week's elections were seen as a referendum on Sogavare's pro-China policies. The people delivered a mixed verdict. Sogavare barely held on to his constituency. His party emerged as the largest after elections, but it does not have the numbers to form the next government yet. Since the independce of solompn islands chinese are the ones who develop solomon in tems of business and paying taxes for the goverñment and emplyment for the people of solomon island ,why not other parties like USA and Aus do business in the solomon and support the government and the people of solomon island

China was here only for a year but has caused quite an uproar. Some traditional partners been here for many decades, their presence not even felt.
No single political party secure majority. Sogavare's party won the most number of seats 15, can form a coalition government with independent candidates who won 11 seats. A simple majority of 26 out of 50 seats in Parliament.

No setback for China here! Sogavare decided not to run for PM and his former foreign minister, Jeremiah Manele, ran instead. He, like Sogavare, is a member of the OUR Party. Manele won the vote for PM by a very big margin in a secret ballot, 31 to 16. Manele is not anti-China (like the West wants him be be) and we can expect a very positive relationship between Solomons and China into the future. (That is, unless the US or Australia organise some sort of coup against him.)
Leave Solomon islands decide themselves for their economic aspirations. No interference please.
