“The Importance of a True Guru” by Brother Anandamoy

- Self-Realization Fellowship monk Brother Anandamoy shares wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda on the role of a true guru in this world and the qualities that a seeker can develop to truly benefit from the guru-disciple relationship.
This talk was recorded at the 1976 SRF Convocation in Los Angeles.
With his characteristic warmth, humor, and penetrating insight, Brother Anandamoy (1922 - 2016) relates touching stories of the personal guidance he received from Paramahansa Yogananda, and emphasizes the qualities that one can develop to progress on the spiritual path.
He also elucidates:
The seldom-understood distinctions between a spiritual teacher and a true guru;
Degrees of spiritual evolution; and
How to deepen one’s attunement with the guru.
Brother Anandamoy was an international lecturer for Self-Realization Fellowship. His talks continue to present for students of Paramahansaji’s teachings and spiritual seekers everywhere key insights into the spiritual path.

To me the best talk ever. I always cherished that Satsang for 40 years, when I listened to it for the first time. It was Brother Anandamoy, who gave me Diksha at the Mother Center back in 1984. I was hoping that it would be he, while at the same time I called myself a fool. But when the Brahmacari announced that Brother Anandamoy would conduct the Initiation, I could not hold tears...
