Steel has almost double the pellets of steel which is nice for getting a hit but its power drop off makes it far less effective. At 30 yards its energy is only about half that of lead so you need to use 1-2 sizes larger to have effective energy or you'll just have a lot of wounded birds. In the US we can cant use lead for waterfowl because the birds eat it so what a lot of people use is Bismuth with is about half way between steel and lead in density or tungsten which is actually denser then lead. Only downsize is Bismuth rounds cost about 2-3 what the steel does and tungsten cost about 6-8 times as much as steel.

Appreciate the advice buddy, it only came into law this year in Ireland, so far I can't complain about it, I'm finding it to be about the same as lead at the distance I shoot but have went with bigger shot size like you said. We have hardly any shops selling anything other than lead at the moment so it's hard to get. I will look more into it over the next few months

I am finding the steel very good for the ducks. Great power from distance. I use eley vip game steel 32 gram 3 . No real extra kick off them

That's good to here. I may get a few boxes if I can. The gamebore are hard to get at the moment. There is a nise bit of a different in the kick out of these but same thing very hard hitting.
