Nice job but something you did scared me because I almost got killed doing it. When you pull a drill chuck out of your work piece hold onto it. If the morse taper pulls out of the tail stock and the drill is still in the piece that chuck assembly will start whipping around and get thrown at you. Don't ask me how I know. LOL Mine busted the morse taper right off the chuck when it hit the bed and threw the chuck over my shoulder and went through a cabinet door I had on the other side of my shop. Almost had to go and change my pants.
Hi I'm looking for advice/ recommendations on the type and brand of mandrel you use to turn your calls. Any info would be greatly appreciated greatly. Thank you
I don't have any thing against those lathes if you have a big order.but I've not seen any one make duck call the way I do I only use a drill to drill the holes and a jig saw to cut out the tone board every thing else I do by hand, with hand tools a vice and a draw knife and a wood file and a wood chessel and a lot of sandpaper..my hands feel every one I make
I’m interested in the mandrel you are using for the duck call blank. Is that homemade? 5/8 stock? I currently use an internal expanding collet chuck that I can switch ends to do my shaping, sanding and finish work. I do like the way that mandrel or whatever you call it works. Like more info on it if you don’t mind.
I'm not sure which your referring to this a pretty old video. But maybe your talking about a homemade one I made on the lathe before I got my internal collets in. It was just a press fit piece I turned out real quick.
Nice job David, that's a nice peice of wood. Gonna be nice looking when it's finished. Keep up the good work!
Good work! You have to have talent to do that so quick and look so good!
