Excellent tips. One thing to add: You do not even need to be in edit mode. Drag items to the Toolbar with the Control key held down and they will be added (same for remove).
@@Erin-Thor He speaks of a way to get to the Control Panel... or sheet. I am noting you do not even need that. Without being in the "Edit Toolbar" mode you can Control-Drag an item in or out of the toolbar. This means no need for the two windows he shows. NOT saying he is wrong in what he showed... his information is accurate and useful as is his norm -- just noting a different way.
@@Erin-Thor I think the original point was missed (or I also missed it :) You can also *add items* to the Finder Toolbar by pressing Command while dragging the item - thus *bypassing* the "edit" mode for the Toolbar.
Thanks Gary. This tutorial is extremely useful for my workflow. I’m dealing with many documents and dropping folder/file unto the toolbar is gonna help me work faster.
I did not know files can be put in the toolbar. This is something I will make use of regularly. Thank you so much, macmost. Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday! 🎄🤗🤲🏽
Hey Gary great tips. I tried to use the Send Files app but it never shows up in my applications. I make the shortcut but I think I'm losing something when I add to dock and then remove it. Also, why is the Shortcuts Icon showing on your Menu Bar? Thanks and really loving your site!
Even as an avid Mac user, I find myself learning something new so often with these videos - I had no idea we could add files or folders to the toolbar. I'm not sure what I'll use that for, but it's nice to know about the option. Appreciate all the info and work that goes into these!
I have Mac OS Sonoma. Onedrive used to be in my sidebar in th location items. It is no longer there and I am not able to drag and drop it from my applications folder. Can you help me with this?
I'm not a OneDrive user, but I believe you need to install something from Microsoft for OneDrive to appear as a location in the Finder. Maybe you uninstalled that or turned it off?
I've been trying to make sending files over Bluetooth easier directly from the finder. The Finder's right click menu > Share... menu doesn't seem to come up with any Bluetooth options, and even Edit Extensions... doesn't come helpful. Have you had any luck here?
What's your goal here? Sending files over Bluetooth is very unusual. Maybe a more modern method would be better? Hard for me to say more without knowing why you are sending files over Bluetooth in the first place. Using a cloud solution, AirDrop, of just regular networking are all usually better options.
@@macmost Sometimes I need to quickly send a file between my work and home computers, and I don't want to have to cross-log to cloud services on those laptops therefore sending peer-to-peer is much cleaner. It is having to use Bluetooth File Exchange that is not modern ;-) I only managed to "Launch Application" > Bluetooth File Exchange. But this is where scriptability of BFE ends, you can't even pass the starting directory or items to it.
The Mac icon? Not sure what you mean by that. If you want a new Finder window to open to Documents, go to Finder, Settings, General and look for "New Finder windows show"

Look in your top level Applications folder for these pieces. Then look in your User Home folder, Applications folder for these pieces. Clear them out. If that doesn't work, you can always try the extreme step of deleting your LaunchPad settings. Search for "reset launchpad" and you'll come up with how to do that.
@@husamejle yes but still would nice to have a tool button. Often one can't tell if show hidden is turned on or off brother there is no selection box or icon to show the mode. Also when opening files from an apps dialog box, even if show hidden is enabled in Finder, it will not show the app. It's all very annoying, but I end up having to do file management with a Windows machine or server UI because Mac doesn't handle hidden files and directories very well and Mac OS can't change the hidden attribute.

More useful tips - especially the preview panel - I'm new to Mac and didnt know about that - very handy...
Quite the Christmas Present! Thank you Gary!! Merry Christmas!
Fantastic content, as usual. Much appreciated! Adding a go-to folder to the finder window toolbar, genius!
I'd forgotten about most of this, Happy Christmas Gary
Thanks Gary! There is so much one can do with that Finder tool bar and the bonus was the Shortcuts ! :-)

Great stuff. Thank you for sharing.
Love watching your videos ❤. Helps a lot

Apple needs to add a MacMost HelpMan icon to its list of vital applications.
so useful

Slick! Can you do Shortcuts to the Calendar app as opposed to Reminders?
Shortcuts, in what respect? Do you mean a button in the Finder toolbar to launch the Calendar app? Sure.
Thanks Gary. Have a happy 2024!

If you "Pin" a Shortcut in the settings for that Shortcut it will give you a menu bar icon and list any Shortcuts you have pinned.
You will find it in your application folder: Shift + Command + H

How do you make the icon of the folder near the arrows in the top left of the window stay always there?
Not sure. It usually is only there if you move your pointer over the name. Not sure why it sticks there sometimes.
