  • Its time for some modern classic action during the first cut of grass silage for 2024. We see a pocket rocket John Deere 6410 and 6310 both working with Taarup (Kverneland) 465 forage wagons. On the clamp is a matching Werklust WG 18 C loading shovel to spread the grass and compact the loads.
This machinery is owned by Dutch dairy farm 'Burgerboerderij Oosterwold'. The Taarup 465 was a famous loader wagon during the 1980s and 90s in the Netherlands. Many farmers ran one and some are still in use today, as you can see in this video.

Curious as to why they left so much of the field uncut? Was it simply too wet?

yes, theres been so much rain the last cople of months. but the farmers couldnt wait longer because the grass was almost to long . and at the lower area's of the field it was to wet to drive without damaging the field

@@gielvanderkolk747 Thank you! I had to deal with that myself two years ago. The life of a farmer is full of compromises.

There are also programs where you need to leave 10%of the field standing

These fields are in a nature reserve scheme and not all mown at the same time. This way animals such as birds and small mammals have a place to hide. Next the strips will be mown when the other grass has regrown.

Guy doing the editing on this must Attention Deficit Disorder or some such - bloody shots are only about 2 - 3 seconds then onto another one - hellishly distracting and quite frankly, offputting. Won't be watching any more of this posters' output.
