I owned 2 bikes shops. When I started out for the first couple of years I was a Giant dealer before switching to the Dorrel Sports range of brands and Scott. I can confirm that when it comes to warranty the Giant warranty is not worth the paper it is written on they will always try to weasel out of any warranty claims. This always puts the bike shop in a really difficult position. I never had this issue with other brands.

I had a very different experience with Giant warranty. I crashed my rim brake TCR a year ago and cracked my top tube. I went to my local giant dealer and used their "composite confidence" program to get a new frame and fork for free (beside labor for my LBS to move the components over). Overall it only took about a month to get back rolling on a brand new fork+frame (with an even better color).
The disconnect is due to the fact I built the bike myself at home, rather than having the authorized LBS do it. This leaves a lot room for customer fault, which is why I initially offered to pay for the replacement fork. Whether or not it was actually my fault.
@@PatrickLino Ah, did you mention the composite confidence to them or just explicitly try to get it warrantied? Technically they say the composite confidence program is not a warranty and it does apply to frames bought through the web and not only through a giant retailer. It’s usually“no questions asked” replacement (which was my experience) while the warranty only covers manufacturing defects.
For comparison: 2 years ago I emailed the Chinese brand TanTan to request a replacement fork for my $600 R12 frameset. I wanted a spare fork just in case I decided to resell the frame, as I usually run a slammed stem. TanTan replied within 24 hours and was happy to offer up a fork for marginal fee. I think because TanTan is an OEM factory and also sells directly to consumers, there's less red tape and lines of communication that the customer needs to navigate through.
Thanks for sharing this story. In my opinion you are still pretty nice about the whole situation. I think this is unacceptable customer service for a premium product like this. So far i thought that the main downside of riding a Chinese frame for example would be communication and long shipping times for replacement parts and that with major brands you pay a big extra to be well covered by their wide customer care network and quick access to replacement parts in case you need it. But hearing this i ve had quicker turnarounds with some Chinese brands already who had to communicate and ship from the other side of planet. This video is a good eye opener for potential customers and hopefully also for some major brand reps so that things can change for the better.
I have a 2023 TCR Advanced Pro. I bought it, adjusted the stem a couple times and used a torque wrench every time. I discovered a crack and went to my LBS. Giant said “classic over torque evidence” which is not covered, but that they would replace with their composite confidence program. I was a bike mechanic in a former life.. I didn’t over torque. They offered me a non matching fork, I said I’d wait for the color match. My LBS took care of me and kept me going with a non matching fork. It took 9 months to get my color match fork from Giant. I love the bike idkwtf took so long, grateful to my LBS.
This problem and experience isn't unique to giant, they change the paint jobs every 6 to 12 months and you are stuffed if they don't have inventory of the old paint job. That fork costs then 20usd to make so they are still profiting from a 500usd cost to the customer. People should start voting with their feet. All this business about supporting a Western brand because it had superior warranty is frankly bs. They are no better and in many cases worse than buying a premium cn brand. At least you aren't paying as much from the outset. Incidentally, giant water being sued in the uk courts for over 1m over faulty forks
Long time Giant customer, but something has gone wrong in the recent past. I've had the 2019 Revolt replaced twice with cracked seat tube near bottle bosses, then the 2022 revolt replaced twice with cracked seat tube at the top. Both of these a so common nearly every frame sold has these defects, alot of customers are not checking. Added to this I've had a 21 TCR crack at the top of the seat tube, replaced, then I've just had the seat post itself crack due to the seat clamp design, which has been remedied by Giant. See Peaktorques latest video for this defect. So thats 6 warranties in the last 4 years.... I'll add I am 75kg 180cm, so I'm not pushing the boudries here. Getting a shop to do the warranty work is also a big issue as Giant are not compensating them properly for completeing the work, however Giant will not allow me to do the work myself. Something seriously wrong with Giant right now.
I have a small 22 revolt 2. I keep checking it for cracks but I have not found any yet. My theory is its the bigger frames that crack. But I do have a problem the paint around the dropout chainstay area is all bubbles. You can tell it’s galvanic corrosion. I don’t know if I even want to try and warranty this frame. Im thinking about just replacing it with the winspace gravel frame. It would be an upgrade at this point. Bigger tire clearance, threaded bb, normal seat post, and shorter reach.
Sorry to hear about the hassle buddy. Thanks for sharing this. I have a TCR 2021 and blew up/crack my front rim during a fast downhill segment. Surprisingly the rim(SLR1) did hold up air for the rest of ride home. My LBS (in NJ)filed a claim with Giant and got a brand new SLR1 shipped to them, installed for me, within 6 days, at no cost, no questions asked. So I was quite surprised and pleased by their build quality as well as the warranty service…I think Giant’s website now states that to get the warranty, the bike has to be assembled by their dealer. Good luck with the channel and your nice Propel!
The knuckleheads are the ones responsible for facing Giants caliper mounts at the factory. My Giant TCR was so bad at the rear that the shop had to get another bike in from another store and replace my frame, neither the bike shop or Giant NZ had the tools to face the caliper mount. But it took several weeks of toing and froing with the store and Giant NZ to get a result. After a few patient weeks I got angry, went into the store to speak to the manager and gave them an ultimatum to either repair my frame, replace it or give me back my money. Fortunately, we have a good Consumers Guarantee Act here in NZ. He called Giant NZ then and there and came up with the solution to get another bike from another store to swap my components over (the bike had been setup with my components but never ridden, the caliper mount was so bad there was no way to stop the disc from rubbing. The store had already spent 45 minutes trying to get it to do so when I went to pick up the bike new). On the other hand, years ago, I cracked a Trek MTB and was temporarily working in a different city to where I lived usually, went to a bike shop that sold Trek and Trek NZ replaced the frame within two weeks. Same deal with GT, cracked frame replaced within two weeks.
I've heard so many stories of Trek simply just replacing frames left and right. Great for the customer (right?) but their frequency of replacing frames clearly must be built into their pricing model.
In Singapore, the warranty did stated that a non Giant authorized work on bike could void the warranty. So i did all the regular maintains and everything with the same dealer, but they did take care of me pretty well. Got giant power pro with wrong reading under warranty period, replaced with no question asked. Sram red shifter got a cosmestic issue, got replaced too.
Hypothetical Question: Say if my authorized Giant LBS originally built my bike and later I discovered that same cracked steer tube, would Giant have simply warranty'd/replaced the entire frameset since "technically" matte black color is "indefinitely" out of production?
I dont think any company stockpiles painted matching warranty stuff. Wouldn't make any sense. They'd be paying millions in storage, and even if someone did need one it probably wouldn't match later due to sun fading.
They probably would have offered a similar situation if they'd done the build, it still would have taken a while to get a fork painted. Honesty the 2 months is really quick turnaround.
I had a 2021 TCR SL rim brakes that got replaced in a warranty. They didn’t have the blue to purple gradient frame in stock but sent me the green w purple hue frame. Was told they can only replace it with the same size (M/L) and type of frame (SL), the colorway didn’t matter. Honestly couldn’t complain tho, got the new frame in like 2 weeks after the accident.
A large part of what you pay for in a top end, light bicycle is the warrantee. These bicycles are relatively delicate and the warrantee is there to protect you. The Chinese brands are made stronger (read heavier) to avoid warrantee returns.
As someone who’s had a warranty claim with both Trek and Cannondale in the past year, both took about 2-4 weeks turnaround. The Cannondale one was pretty instant, as I showed them the damage, the shop sent the pics along with my receipt, and Cdale accepted the claim a few days later and had a new frame out the next week. Trek had me jump through a few more hoops for proof of purchase, but eventually accepted the claim and sent me a new frame. Mind you, both of these frames were floor models from LBS that I bought off eBay. So Giant putting you through the ringer for a frame you bought directly from them is kinda crazy
Fascinating. 2023 Propel 2 x cracked steerer tube, both installed by local Giant dealer. Was great full I had a great relationship with the shop amd they went in to bat for me, the first warranty cracked while they were installing it despite undertorquing to be safe. Giant then supplied another fork and am SLR stem which has a larger clamping area. Spoke with a national bike fitter amd he said he has also heard of other 2023 propel which jave had the same issue.
Picture of the crack? In your honest opinion what do you think caused it? Hit any large pot holes? Tighten bolts without a torque wrench? Anyway, glad to hear you got a Hambini special.
I did not think to take a photo/video of the crack, because I genuinely assumed the warranty process would be an easy and quick process. The bike was already being stored at the LBS when when things were escalated.
Glad you got that sorted out. Maybe the bike shop that installed the replacement fork should do a "once over" on the entire bike just in case of another warranty claim. That way they can verify everything is torqued correctly etc...Just CYA insurance!
I had a shocking warrenty experience with Giant on a 2022 tcr. Delamination of the carbon at the point of the seat wedge. Took nearly a year to receive a replacement frame. After receiving that frame, within a few weeks the frame cracked on the rear side of the seatpost. Received another frame 6 months down the track after an escalation at Giant HQ. Local shops that sell Specialized and Trek were astounded at wait time and treatment. Safe to say i'll never get another giant. Frames and customer services was sub-par at best.
Glad I found this video. Won't be buying a Giant anytime soon. Have heard similar stories with Giant and warranty issues. I recently got a replacement fork from Yoeleo R11 in a custom colour in less than 3 weeks.
My LBS stopped selling Giant bikes for this very reason. They also said on average, they had to handle a warranty every week, thus they told giant to get Fked.
As I mentioned a couple of times in the video….I understood the financial implications. This wasn’t my primary issue however. And even if they changed their minds later to not charge me, due to my online presence, imagine what a regular customer would have to go through.
I’m happy you got the issue resolved, Thats why I let my LBS build a brand new bike in case shyt hits the fan its on them. But Giant does look out for warranty claims all the time as long as the lbs builds them.
If (and this is a HUGE IF) I decide to purchase and review any further name brand bikes (SL8 ❤️), I’ll most likely need to have an authorized LBS do the work. Sucks because I don’t wanna wait 3 weeks for a bike build, when I can do it at home in two days.
We had to get a TCR Advanced Pro 1, 1. Rear wheel replaced just within warranty but this took quite resistance! The dealer was amazing. 2. Fork was replaced soon after sale as QC failed - had a bad looking defect in paint from new. Free replacement. 3. Power meter faulty, replaced free 4. BB was noisy & changed but it ended up being the rear wheel!
What's crazy is I'm 99% sure that a company like VeloBuild, Winspace, etc would have probably gave you a fork no questions asked if you had bought your bike from them.
People overlook one of the positives of buying from a factory-to-consumer brand like Winspace/Velobuild/LightCarbon: There is a clear line of communication from the sales team directly to the factory.
Giant being Giant... amazing you actually got a replacement, from my warranty issue with Giant they still haven't fixed it but who cares. Rather just buy a Chinese frame and keep it moving. good video, keep up the vids 💪
People get nervous about riding affordable Chinese frames. What they don’t consider is cheaper frames mean less anxiety in the long term since these frames are basically disposable.
Had a positive experience with my giant revolt when I cracked the frame by dropping a lifting weight on it by accident. My LBS helped me out with the crash replacement 2 year warranty. Got the new frame within a month but I did have to pay like 200$ for them to swap out the parts. Not sure if it was because I didn’t buy the bike from that shop. However, That’s the reason why I just ordered the new TCR model. But a friend did have to wait about a year to get his power meter fixed or replaced by Giant. Not sure if it’s because of the parts shortage 🤷🏽♂️
@@PatrickLino it’ll be an upgrade for me from a supersix evo with mechanical ultegra. I got the advanced pro 0 for 5000$, love the color and the carbon wheels are the new from Giant (carbon spokes)
You are not alone. I just discovered a crack in my steerer tube on my Propel. Your video made me check the steerer tube and I got a crack in there as well. I hope they are going to replace the fork. Will contact my LBS tomorrow, hopefully it goes well.
Man sorry to hear! PLEASE let me know what your LBS says, and where they place the "blame." Hopefully your experience is far better than mine. Did your LBS build the bike?
@@PatrickLino Will definitely let you know, what they say. They built the bike, but I adjusted the stem height. I overheld the torque specs and didn't notice anything weird. I sometimes noticed weird sounds, when the bike was on my Zwift Hub, but didn't think too much about it. Then the algorithm did its thing, recommended your video and well... here we are 😕 I'm just thankful you made a video about it, which made me check. Can't imagine how bad things could have gone, if it cracked on me, while riding the bike.
I recently uploaded my 1-year review on this bike. While I didn't re-hash the warranty aspect, I can truthfully say the bike itself is my favorite bike I've ridden. Even more so than my Tarmac SL8. This doesn't absolve the warranty headache of course. My take away from this experience is perhaps having a Giant authorized dealer handle the initial bike build for liability purposes.
Love the content! Hopefully there’s no more issues with the fork! I would love to hear your thoughts on the winspace vs elite vs crw wheels since they are all around similar depths. I’m starting to plan a bike build and originally the hyper d67 looked amazing but the elite drives and crws are both lighter. Plus the gloss black does look sweet. A video going over all the wheelsets you own/have owned would be cool too. Like the one you did a while back showing how the allez, yoeleo, and winspace compared to each other
@@PatrickLinoYea that would be awesome to watch! I believe all of those wheelsets are under 1400g except Winspace too. Maybe the rise in competition will force them to bring their prices back down to what they used to be. Don't forget a freehub sound check for each wheel haha
I guess at the end of the day I am glad you finally got taken care of. I purchased a 2024 Defy Advanced SL1 from the Asian market because they are not carried in the US and now to my surprise I couldn't register it here. I contacted the seller and he said if anything goes wrong to contact him. Hopefully nothing will go wrong! LOL
I would be lying if I said I didn't originally consider the new Madone, but the Trek stores locally here in Chicagoland have left a bad taste. They are very much out of touch with modern (read: young) riders.
I always buy giant bike at the local bike shop and have them build the bike. I only clean and lube the chain. The bike shop does all the rest of the maintenance.
I was just checking out last years Propel Advanced 2 with mechanical 105, but I am still pretty hesitant to jump on the carbon road bike bandwagon, and this is exactly why. I wouldn't wan't to experience a cracked steerer while ripping downhill in the middle of nowhere. That D shape probably doesn't help with the failure either... Anyway, thanks for the video, ride safe!
Thanks for watching! Thankfully since my replacement fork, I have not had a single issue. In fact I just inspected my fork/steer tube after 1500 miles and all is well.
@@PatrickLino Bike is super nice, but getting treated like that after dropping over 4k on a frame is a major turn off. I would’ve felt violated lol. I got my eyes 👀 on a Time frame now.
I made it clear to Giant I was expecting to pay for a replacement fork (if need be) and that I wanted to resolve things amicably. If anything, I think me having an online presence simply motivated them to expedite the warranty claim more so than the financial aspect.
Do you really think Giant are gonna do the same to us normies? After 10 years with the brand, im done with them and i've just ordered a non-giant bike from a major manufacturer
Yeah I figured there was probably a clause of "a professional must build for warranty to apply". This makes me sad because the giant reps always treated me right. I had an crash involving a car and the rep hooked me up with a sweet deal to replace the bike ASAP.
I found I also have broken fork stering tube. Iam going to local dealer in Poland. I will see how warranty works. I expecting it will be problem to get matchnig dark plum colour and can be even problem, to get new fork for free. I still have enought long stering tube to have possibility to cut it by 4 cm, but I do not know if it would not make my bike possition to agressive with back pain during long rides.
Not exacly. I bought the bike in other city from Giant Store, about two hours to go on motorway. They had last available piece for Poland with Dark Plum colour with Sram Force. It is Propel Advanced Pro 0, whole bike from Giant, not frameset only. It is colour which was available in 2023 for my country. From 2024 They started to sell Propel Advanced Pro 0 in Black/Blue colour with Shimano Ultegra. The local shop is not Giant seller only. They have also Trek, Cannondale and Giant as well. Good people work there. I know Them longer. I bought Trek Supercaliber 4 years ago from Them. Once I broked Carbon rim on one Race because of low tyre pressure, the Trek warranty let to change it for free in less than two weeks. It would take shorter but They had to send wheel to the Trek headquarter in Holland. Most of the of the time of replacement took shipment to Holland and Back to Poland. Other time I droped my Trek to FOX authorised service for inspection of suspension. It is in second another City. They are also a Trek dealer. They found my frame was broken near bottom bracket. I did not even know about this. They had new frame in my size on stock. It was different colour because Trek have only one or two colours of frames prepeared for warranty replacement. It was not problem for me, new colour was even better and every colour looks good with black suspension fork. I had new frame in my bike in less than one week. Over 50% of people what I know personally have the same problem with Trek frame. Nobody have problem with Trek warranty. They even get second generation of frame for free, when broken frame was older model. I can say Trek warranty works perfectly well. I will see how it looks with Giant in Poland.
@@PatrickLino yes. Because this model is the best model I really like. And my local bike shop is about to really drop the price on the models they still have in stock. No one is really buying them down here.
6:31 This excuse by Giant is actually illegal. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects consumers even if they do the work themselves. what was the specific damage that they were saying was your fault? no photos or video?
Don’t expect anything from any warranty especially within the cycling industry. They’re all full of crap and as soon as you have a problem they do what they can to squirm their way out of paying. They definitely found out you were an Influencer and were scared of being viewed in a negative light! Happy for you that it’s now sorted.
There certainly was a missed opportunity to garner more bike sales for Giant, at the inexpensive cost of making the process for replacing my fork easy.
You are way too kind to all parties involved, including the dealer you purchased from. They should have been doing all this legwork for you, that's the point in purchasing from a dealer. Glad it all worked out for you in the end!

@@johnjr47 On paper, Giant is tough to beat in terms of value to performance. The overwhelming percentage of customers love their Giants. In fact one of the racers in my club has 3, which was one of the main reasons I bought one!
Sorry to hear the grief you have had. As we'd say Piss Poor show from Giant. I can imagine the rep/marketing team "lets just double check if this Lino guy has a social presence, oh b*llocks he has..."😂
@PatrickLino I think it's the views that concern any brand. I'd say you have a bigger influence you give yourself credit for. I can think of other you tubers that have 100k followers but I can't stand watching some of those they just simply don't appeal.
if that happened to me, I would feel shitty every time getting on the bike not knowing if they cut corners on the frame too. It would really play with my mind
man, that is super unfortunate. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. Giant is lucky you’re such a chill well mannered person tbh, bc others would’ve smeared them for this treatment after paying $4k for a frameset. With that said, this is why I’m subscribed to you and trust/respect your opinions; you are super chill and understanding. I noticed you got that new AliExpress light with low/high beam. Are you planning on making a video on it? I’d love to hear your opinion!
I had some bad luck with some giant slr 2 wheels. One cracked at the seam and I went where I got them. The shop is ran by really good people and they really went to bat for me and giant was fighting them every step of the way to warranty them. It was a massive headache. He told giant I been buying giant products for years and a loyal customer. But, giant kept giving the run around. Finally the shop said here’s a set of wheels we will eat the cost.
I felt you were very careful on your choice of words used in the video. 😂 What I deduced is Giant customer service SUCKS! If someone with no youtube channel or some kind of influence, they would not have warranted the fork. Period.
There is potential for high visibility on both sides of this ordeal, so I really want to focus on what happened rather than my personal feelings. I'm just hoping this is the final time I need to deal with the warranty process. Then again...they probably won't cover it LoL
That’s disappointing how you had to do this yourself. I’d say the RUclips channel likely helped you here but as you stated if you crash they’re meant to replace it for the first 2 years so it shouldn’t have been a question. What are the elite wheels depth? I’m considering the 50mm would you recommend them?
@@PatrickLinoyeah, admittedly though, the first time might have been my fault, since i traveled with it i had to take the stem off and might have reassembled it improperly. it took a while but it was replaced under warranty (i was actually in another continent and managed to get a replacement fork there, props to giant EU). i traveled back home, got the shop to install the new colour matched fork once it arrived, didn't touch it at all and rode it for ~2 months. one day i felt like the handlebar would wobble when i stood up or pulled on it climbing, i stopped the ride and took the bike back to the shop: fork was cracked (crack went down from the very top of the steerer tube for a couple of cm). no one had and idea of how that could possibly have happened and i was given a new fork and the upgraded conctac SLR carbon stem (according to giant it clamps differently on the steerer tube compared to the standard stem). i can't complain about the customer service (i'm in australia), but i have to admit that they lacked in terms of communication and at times it felt like something dodgy was going on. i love the bike and i am sticking with it, but if anything breaks again i am done with it, i'll sell it and move to another brand. so sorry you had to go through all that, i feel ya!
My experience has been that warranty service in the bike industry is inconsistent and shouldn’t be considered in your purchase decision. I’ve had good experiences. For example, Trek replacing a full frame due to a fork that developed a crack on a model they no longer carried. I’ve also had terrible results like Shimano not replacing a brand new shifter because I couldn’t “prove” it was a mfg problem. As a result, I’m leaning toward less expensive brands and considering the parts disposable.
If you've been following my channel for some time, the majority of my bike builds are with Chinese frames costing typically $700 or less. No need for warranties (or insurance) since the frames are practically disposable at that price point. You get about 75-85% of the performance for a 1/5th the price.
That’s crazy and worse when it’s coming from your dream bike builder… but I’m not surprised… Zipp did the same for a pair of their wheels… blamed the bike shop, then blamed me, then blamed the “geometrical forces of the chainstasy” of the bike… huh???…. I’m so anti-zipp, I started to get a tattoo… lol… flip it to Specialized a few years later… they were transparent throughout and replaced a pair… when you buy a bike, you’re also “buying” the customer service with it… if the customer service is bad, then spend your money on something else… glad they addressed it favorably on your behalf tho, but you shouldn’t have had to deal with it for that long, in that way… 🥃
@@PatrickLino bottom bracket is oversized and ovalized. Have a solution on the way (enduro bb). Have been riding my Felt mostly and the quality is MUCH higher. Is more expensive, obviously, but i like the brand. NO FAF!
During bike assembly bike at Giant factory my Giant bike’s lock ring is stripped. I went to Giant and they won’t own up to it. They ask me to file a warranty with Shimano. What a joke. I can confidently say I won’t get another Giant any time soon.
@@PatrickLino my thoughts are no bike shop would ever double check the cassette lock ring torque when they put together a half assembled bike. So it must be the initial assembly at the Giant factory that stripped my cassette lock ring.
Sounds like Giant under promised and over delivered. I've never had them deny a warranty claim for our shop. BTW, sales reps are horrible at dealing with customers, they're used to dealing with shop managers/buyers only.
I've worked in several shops, as well as ridden a variety of brands over the years. I can tell you that I have had different experiences with even the same brand under warranty depending on the inside rep for the region where the shop is based. Most recently, Shimano took 9 weeks to warranty an Ultegra shifter for me.(Eventually gave me a "goodwill replacement" for a shifter with a cracked master cylinder) For what it's worth, Giant has been fairly consistently one of the BETTER companies to work with on warranty, at least at the shops where I have had to deal with them. Given your insistence on having not just a Propel fork, but specifically one with matching paint, I would not consider 7 weeks inordinate time in the current industry climate, either. I suspect it took some serious searching at a warehouse to track one down. I AM sorry you ended up feeling like you were getting the run around/cold shoulder from the various reps you communicated with, but sometimes it just takes being the aqueaky wheel to get the right grease.
I’m sorry you had such a troubled experience bruv but many companies these days don’t seem to care about the customer once they have your money and it’s sad and unfortunate really 🤷🏾♂️
As a Giant bike owner this sucks. I thought they were a step above. Disappointed. Glad you got yours sorted. Its a shame as this was your dream bike and they ruined the experience
Glad they repaired your bike...but I wonder if they did you solid once they realized you have a RUclips channel covering cycling. I'm thinking that is the reason they helped you out.
In my email to Giant, I was clear that I was fine with paying for a new fork (if need be). I just did not understand why a matte black fork would be indefinitely unavailable. My RUclips channel is small, all things considered.
Honestly this is a pretty typical experience, I do wonder if the online presence affected their decision. Personally this is why i dont buy stuff with warranties. I'd much rather save my money up front and if I have a problem later on I simply still have the money in pocket instead of the company holding it.
Wow. Not a great look for Giant. Basically the warranty is useless if you buy just the frame -- unless the customer is a RUclipsr. I'm glad you shined light.
Or you'll just have to have the new frame built at an authorized Giant bike shop, so they can assume all liability. Or you can just race and crash your bike LoL

Thanks Mike! Maybe Giant is making budget cuts and this includes warranty claims.
@@PatrickLino Not cool. Not cool.
Thanks for sharing this story! Sometimes a simple benefit of the doubt toward the customer is needed.
Giant are being sued over propel forks? Wonder if the new tcr fork could also have an issue….
Your comment will get swept under the rug...
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
6 warranties in the last 4 years...absolutely incredible!
I am guessing its the cycle we see with automakers, their rep gets so high quality drops.
Industry issues past 3 years are probably forcing them to cut, warranty departments go first.
@@asebaninja That also crossed my mind...
This is insane, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! Happy we are back in business lol
Happy to have it back. Thanks for watching and sharing your story!
Tay Junction? I’ve also had positive experience with them.
@@RH_01779 Yea bro, they been take care of me pretty damn well.
Hypothetical Question: Say if my authorized Giant LBS originally built my bike and later I discovered that same cracked steer tube, would Giant have simply warranty'd/replaced the entire frameset since "technically" matte black color is "indefinitely" out of production?
I would assume so, but I also would have thought if you buy a frameset you'd be allowed to build it yourself
@@arandom.potato 2 weeks is crazy turn around time.
A large part of what you pay for in a top end, light bicycle is the warrantee. These bicycles are relatively delicate and the warrantee is there to protect you.
The Chinese brands are made stronger (read heavier) to avoid warrantee returns.
I never thought about it in this manner. This is a a fantastic hot take, and one that deserves its own video. Thank you so much John!
I've heard great things about Trek's warranty service. Probably because their demographic of customers are boomers and Gen X lol
@@PatrickLino You may be onto something there 🤔 😂
.@@PatrickLino Millennial here on a Trek.

You are describing defects in a frame that were not your fault. Damage you do to a bike is not covered by warranty.
Crazy how common this issue is.
THIS has been running through mind all day today...
A year for a replacement frame is insane. Regardless of the N+1 rule.
Thanks Patrick for making it public and clear.
Thanks for watching Joel!
Glad I found this video. Won't be buying a Giant anytime soon. Have heard similar stories with Giant and warranty issues. I recently got a replacement fork from Yoeleo R11 in a custom colour in less than 3 weeks.
3 weeks in an insane turn around time. I’ve heard worse stories with Yoeleo. I like their products however, and have ridden three frames from them.
My LBS stopped selling Giant bikes for this very reason. They also said on average, they had to handle a warranty every week, thus they told giant to get Fked.
This is insane. No clue Giant had a such a history of issues.
Giant had a strong point since you put together the bike. That’s a valid position. Glad you got the replacement for free.
As I mentioned a couple of times in the video….I understood the financial implications. This wasn’t my primary issue however. And even if they changed their minds later to not charge me, due to my online presence, imagine what a regular customer would have to go through.
I’m happy you got the issue resolved, Thats why I let
my LBS build a brand new bike in case shyt hits the fan its on them.
We had to get a TCR Advanced Pro 1,
1. Rear wheel replaced just within warranty but this took quite resistance! The dealer was amazing.
2. Fork was replaced soon after sale as QC failed - had a bad looking defect in paint from new. Free replacement.
3. Power meter faulty, replaced free
4. BB was noisy & changed but it ended up being the rear wheel!
Awesome story. Thanks for sharing!
The new TCR looks good (albeit the same LoL). Happy they finally internally routed the fork cable.

Then the algorithm did its thing, recommended your video and well... here we are 😕
I'm just thankful you made a video about it, which made me check. Can't imagine how bad things could have gone, if it cracked on me, while riding the bike.
Wow, this is crazy. I was thinking of buying a new Giant Propel and after seeing this and reading these comments, I’m not so confident anymore.
Like the one you did a while back showing how the allez, yoeleo, and winspace compared to each other
That is a great video idea! More like Winspace vs Elite vs CRW vs Magene EXAR Ultra (50/58)
LOL

i got a color matched replacement fork for a 2019 trek madone slr for $400 in 7 days. so much for giant being a more cost effective brand.

Did your local bike shop build the bike?

Conspiracy Theory: There are no spare forks because they are all failing and have run out of stock
Savage...🤣
@@PatrickLino It happened often when I used to work an as automotive engineer.
@@richardggeorgei have a 2024 propel and it happened twice in the last 6 months. you might be onto something ahahah
@@riccardocastiglioni5131 You had TWO forks crack on your Propel?
I’m so anti-zipp, I started to get a tattoo… lol… flip it to Specialized a few years later… they were transparent throughout and replaced a pair… when you buy a bike, you’re also “buying” the customer service with it… if the customer service is bad, then spend your money on something else… glad they addressed it favorably on your behalf tho, but you shouldn’t have had to deal with it for that long, in that way… 🥃
Problem with my revolt. Oversized bottom bracket. Im one and done with giant.
What was the problem??
@@PatrickLino bottom bracket is oversized and ovalized. Have a solution on the way (enduro bb). Have been riding my Felt mostly and the quality is MUCH higher. Is more expensive, obviously, but i like the brand. NO FAF!
@@universe-juice Felt Bikes look great!
In other words get a giant Propel if you have a strong social media presence.
By strong social media presence, you mean being at the bottom of the totem poll among cycling content creators.
During bike assembly bike at Giant factory my Giant bike’s lock ring is stripped. I went to Giant and they won’t own up to it. They ask me to file a warranty with Shimano. What a joke. I can confidently say I won’t get another Giant any time soon.
Your Giant bike was stolen...at Giant's factory???
@@PatrickLino my thoughts are no bike shop would ever double check the cassette lock ring torque when they put together a half assembled bike. So it must be the initial assembly at the Giant factory that stripped my cassette lock ring.
@@youling1997 That is insane! Thanks for sharing 😭
Mark thought he caught you taking a duece
A GIANT deuce!
Seems Chinese bike frames are more robust and have better warranty.
Easier communication to get replacement parts since it's direct to consumer.
That’s terrible service glad you got it fixed.. I certainly wouldn’t buy a bike from them 😢 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Just in time for Sping!
Sounds like Giant under promised and over delivered. I've never had them deny a warranty claim for our shop. BTW, sales reps are horrible at dealing with customers, they're used to dealing with shop managers/buyers only.
No fault on the LBS. However, is it the customer's responsibility typically to chase down their respective warranty rep?
my friend's cannondale carbon seatpost warranty turnaround time was an insane 6 months
6 months is wild. I hope he at least had N+1
Lol I feel like the cheapo Chinese brands have better warranty service. That's an eye opener
See my pinned comment LoL
That is a lot of effort for a brand that is supposed to be a more premium brand. It's unfortunate that you had to deal with this man.
Thanks Keith. Happy it's over now and happened during the Winter, rather than Summer.
Most well-rounded and insight comment. Thanks David!
Not good PR for Giant at all. For your inconvenience Giant must give you a 2nd bike for free😂 .Thanks as always for a great insert.
Are we thinking the latest TCR? haha
Saw the title. Uh-oh!
RUH ROH!!
I dont see anything wrong with Giant on this. Its not a warranty if its user error.
I forgive you for not actually not watching the video, nor understanding the context ❤
I watched it all. They made you a favor to produce a matching color fork .Thats good customer service in my book.@@PatrickLino
Mark!!!
I’m sorry you had such a troubled experience bruv but many companies these days don’t seem to care about the customer once they have your money and it’s sad and unfortunate really 🤷🏾♂️
Thankfully since this incident, I have really been enjoying the bike. 1 year follow up video coming soon.
As a Giant bike owner this sucks. I thought they were a step above. Disappointed. Glad you got yours sorted. Its a shame as this was your dream bike and they ruined the experience
I can compartmentalize my feelings about the actual bike separate from the warranty process haha. Let's just hope this is final time I need to use it.
I’m just going to stick with a Merida Ride 80 I bought with Japan. Warranty claims on bikes? Holy cow
How old is that bike?
@@PatrickLino 3 years but I’m not

@@MichaelRedford Thanks for watching!
I would never by a Giant to many friends had frame problems,That’s y I have a Cervelo
What Cervelo frame?
@@PatrickLino Caledonia
Honestly this is a pretty typical experience, I do wonder if the online presence affected their decision. Personally this is why i dont buy stuff with warranties. I'd much rather save my money up front and if I have a problem later on I simply still have the money in pocket instead of the company holding it.
You are talking to someone who's built around eight sub-$700 framesets haha. Who needs a warranty that pricepoint.
this is a common issue. you'll see lots of similar complains in Chinese social media
Particularly for Giant?
@PatrickLino By the way, Yoeleo came through for me with my warranty claim. All is good.
