Meltzer 5 star matches tier list would be interesting to see. How well certain matches have aged and seeing the older matches from a modern perspective
You know Dave's ratings were often him going off of the clipped versions of matches that made their TV slot, right? There are cases (Misawa vs Kobashi 1/20/1997 comes to mind, which got 4.75) where I think matches that might have reached that rating weren't able to. So there's an extent to where I consider the distinction between 4.5 and 5 a bit arbitrary in some cases when it comes to that era.
@@KinchStalker I have seen a lot of AJPW footage and sure there is a lot of clipped stuff in there, but the big Triple Crown title matches are usually shown in full lenght. So while Dave arguably made some questionable ratings, his 5-stars for Triple Crown matches usually were given for good reason.
Pretty good list. I was worried going into the video since you guys don't talk about NJPW often, so I wasn't sure how informed the rankings would be. Couple of nitpicks here and there (Omega down 1, Makabe up 1, etc.), but overall really good rankings.
Its cus of the time, NJPW was not at the best state, also because of him loosing in the MMA fights he lost a bit of credibility and the faith of inoki, I do think he is one of the best champions but cus of inokism is but set him back from being top tire, he deffo is close and maybe should be there too
I was cautiously all ears until the Nagata section. It's marked highly enough but I was following very closely at the time of his major long reign; it was a brilliant array of matches and they talk almost the entire segment about the Cro Cop saga, when this could have been about the title reigns. Easily could have gone into some depth about the awesome Chono 60 minute defence, or truly intense bouts with Takayama and Sasaki. It feels thus (whilst still watchable) a little washy in covering title reigns, with token anecdotes of moments in their general careers rather than thorough reviews of the reigns. That's backed up by the fact it's mentioned that 'in the 90s' was a time when Japanese companies worked freely with one-another, unlike in the West; but AJPW and NJPW were complete enemies until October 2000 with the first event featuring any crossover after the NOAH split.
The problem is they don't do any research before these videos. I would say that would take hours upon hours so I know why they don't do it with other things to do. However I do agree and think with more research they would of seen that Nakamura and Inoki should of gone up (my only gripes about the list). Nakamura especially for being the "saviour" of NJPW for saving the belt and Inoki for having not just handed the championship to himself but going out of his way to legitimise his reign with a tournament win over one of the great Japanese wrestlers of the time Masa Saito (said to of allegedly invented the sharpshooter/scorpion deathlock) and the good matches he put on until the vacating of the belt.
Please more NJPW lists. The whole roster list would be incredible (maybe with an * by a couple people in light of current circumstances, Ospreay & Chase Owens spring to mind)
We need a tier list of every single Gary RUclips. Personally I think it's down to Gary RUclips and Gary RUclips for who is the best Gary RUclips, however, Gary RUclips is also a contender for that title too.
I kinda want Taichi to eventually get this chance at hte top. He's always been the jobber to the stars, always involved in high profile feuds but never winning the big one.
I know this is way too early to say, given that this reign started yesterday (as of 13/07/2020) - but, given time, were do you hope that the new 30th champion, EVIL, will rank in time after his first reign ends? Just what you hope despite it only just beginning.
I'm a huge fan of Lucha Libre, any chance we could have a AAA mega champions tier list? Or CMLL? Also could we get some Lucha Underground lists, videos or tier lists please? I watch all this channels videos and you guys are amazing, easily my favourite channel on RUclips. Best wishes to ALL of you for all your hard work, but big hugs to my favourite guy on here, Mr Ross Twedell, I've noticed he's been quiet again recently and hope he's OK. Regards KevtheRed
Sam is 100% right. Ishii is the most underated wrestlers from this day. It's a shame that he never get his hands on the big title. He is one of the best worker in the world atm.
Yes, Fujinami beat Flair for the NWA belt at Starrcade in '91, in the Tokyo Dome, then dropped it back to him at the first Super Brawl, 2 months later in Florida.
I still remember the very first New-Japan match I ever watched, the match responsible for introducing me to what has since become my favorite wrestling promotion in the world, was Tomohiro Ishii versus Katsuyori Shibata. That neither of those men ever won the big belt is, for lack of a better word, silly.
How can you grade an IWGP title reign based on how seriously WCW treated it? I doubt their WCW runs are at all exemplary of anybody's actual abilities; certainly it is inconsequential based on their Japanese title legacy. (Thinking specifically about people like Chono and Norton.)
In Chono's case, his one run was really, really short. With Norton, he spent most of his time as champion in the States, while he was on the nWo's B-Team.
Brock wasn't paid what he was contracted and they never paid that back until he agreed to drop it to Kurt Angle a year later in the IGF, they could have easily gotten their title back if they didn't try and swipe it and not pay him what he was legally entitled to, say what you want about his heart not being in it, Brock did the right thing taking the belt hostage, and in the end it put Shinsuke over like crazy when he beat Angle.
Omegas match quality with the belt = high. Omega's reign in terms of opposition, story and the disgraceful way he left = poor. I'd have had him in bearable
"disgraceful way he left" its a business kid and his contract was up if they wanted him to stay they should start singing there talent to more then one year deals.
It really sad that AJPW has went down hill . Kings Road is the best . 80s 90s ruled ! NOAH as well was so great ! NJPW i think of the juniors more than the heavys. Hashimoto kicked major ass tho ! Vader too , but i remember him more from AJPW
Think it's a missed opportunity to not have a good tear in between lovely lovely lovely and alright I feel like Omega Naito Nakamura shouldn't be anywhere near the word alright
Them: "How much do you like Cultaholic's Tier Ranking videos?"
Me: "I've only seen 1 NJPW match and I'm watching this video."
That’s not a huge flex u rly need to watch njpw
@@carternelson7462 I think the point is how much he loves their content
That's probably one more than these two have watched.
@@carternelson7462 No I don't. I really need to breathe air and eat food. Everything else is optional.
Nearly broke kayfabe at the start there Garry RUclips
Nearly? Gary RUclips dropped the ball there
Cornelius Driscoll lost interest in the video as soon as the ball was dropped, Gary & Gary (Ross & Tom)‘s commitments to Gary RUclips is fantastic
Meltzer 5 star matches tier list would be interesting to see. How well certain matches have aged and seeing the older matches from a modern perspective
Suzuki not being IWGP Champion is a bigger crime than Ishii
do tier list of all 5 star matches or AJPW triple crown title
5 star matches would be hard. How would they rank em? Match quality? They're 5 star for a reason.
@@Masterhighlight i would say match quality crowd reaction and the stakes involved like a title
5 star would be awesome!

The more I learn about Inoki, the more he becomes a Japanese Vince McMahon
oh man you're going down on the rabbit hole if you learn more about him
wanderlustwarrior why would you want to watch a young Vince die horribly?
Vince McMahon is an American Antonio Inoki.
You are really on point there with your comparison.
Matt lol exactly.
GARY RUclips HAS BEEN REPLACED BY GARY RUclips?! IMPOSSIBLE
At least they're still Gary Youtubing
Today the role of Gary RUclips will be played by Gary RUclips.
They should be careful though, Gary RUclips is lurking in the shadows waiting to steal his position
It's just like fake Diesel and/or fake Razor! D:
Really like how you now added the names of who your talking about on the bottom. Keep up the good work lads!
Can you do a tier list of every Dave Meltzer 5* or more match
That's actually a really great, niche idea, would love to see that!!
"Get in the bin you 5 star match!"
kevinno then split it by century
Hal Jordan the tier system would have to change
YES!!! Book it!!!
Name a bigger feud then Jack vs Tanahashi's air guitar
Ibushi vs his own neck
Naito VS Osaka's crowd
"Fujita can't do Epic matches"
Noah in 2020 would like to have a word with you.
Fujita vs shiozaki match of the decade
My personal highlight of that match was the thirty minute stare down
Ghc champion lol

Crazy to think that Ibushi is almost 40. Also, As much as I think it won't happen, I hope to see Goto to win the big one at least once.
Nagata: Holds the belt for the 3rd most defenses
Cultaholic: It’s only very very good
It’s not that deep
Nagata is probably their most underrated champion
Libe Jenkins agreed, he’s one of the GOATS of NJPW

Could you do tier list of ROH or Impact world champions?
There would be more best tier Roh champs than tna champs
Ethan Da Omegaman X I hope you’re joking about Matt Taven being in the best
Would love to see both of those, along with AAA and CMLL
I freaking love Tanahashi, I wish I hadn't started watching New Japan so late.. I hope he never retires!
loved it! more japanese wrestling in the channel please
NJPW and ROH>any other wrestling promotions in 2021
I’ve never even really watched new japan I’m still going to watch this lol
It's more than worth trying. Wrestle Kingdom 14 is free to watch right now on NJPW World (their version of the WWE Network)
Nick94956 I’ll give it a shot Im just too lazy invest more energy in learning about a whole new company and their wrestlers,Lore, etc lol
Goto for IWGP Heavyweight champion
Jack seemed like he wanted to fly through this 😂
fuck, I was listening to this with my headphones on and when that intro for Inokism came on I got so unreasonably scared😂😂😂.

Don’t know too much about NJPW history but from what it sounded like, Fujinami and Choshu are the Japan equivalent to Bret and Shawn?
Inoki, Fujinami, Choshu = Hogan, Bret, Shawn
Tanahashi, Nakamura = Cena, Orton
Muto, Chono, Hashimoto = Rollins, Ambrose, Reigns
Maybe a tier list for the Jr heavyweight title? Great work guys!
Saw this and instantly wanted the list injected directly into my veins
This looks like one of the most hardest tier lists Cultaholic had to compile together.

Do a tier list of the greatest matches of all time

I’m so happy about Evil ♥️
Yes, Fujinami beat Flair for the NWA belt at Starrcade in '91, in the Tokyo Dome, then dropped it back to him at the first Super Brawl, 2 months later in Florida.
Do a tier list of impact world champions (both world title belts)

Inoki Tier cannot be constrained by the feeble 2 dimensions that make up this tier list.
Thank god somebody mentioned NJPW.
Unfortunately this company's gotten slept on because it's in the far east and western companies's taken over.
As much as I love AEW, I hate that it has caused people to forget about New Japan. Wrestle Kingdom 14 was better than anything AEW has run IMO
Also, the ongoing global bastard has made a lot of damage by not having any matches in four months.
I love AEW, but yeah, right now NJPW is the best company.
I'm not even an aew fan, so all the attention being drawn away from new Japan is really annoying to me
I would love a Sam Jack Tier List of the NJPW roster
It might take like 2 hours, but every WWE champion tier list?
