Sad but whole expected that this artifact was so damaged by careless imperial curation. Good to know some efforts are being made to restore it, although one remains skeptical of this institution's ability to properly or even ethically house it. Even displaying this artifact as a component of a larger "Silk Road" exhibit seems almost insulting to the stature of this text in human history. This institution may be intrinsically incapable of truly honoring or contextualizing this artifact. Alas, impermanence, and thankfully the import of the Sutra is quite independent of this physical instantiation of it and of the imperial efforts to "own it" and hold it as treasure 🙏
Dear Friends, I noticed a glaring Typo on your description above. It say "oldest dated printed book in the work". I believe you meant to say "oldest dated printed book in the world". I just saw a lecture at the Getty Center in Los Angeles and they showed a slide of this page with the obvious typo. You should correct it.
I really admire and respect the care of which these people take when handling the sutra. They're very careful and conscious. Great job.
Thank you for all the effort, and for taking excellent care of this very sacred document.
Thank you for making this video about the preservation of such an important and life changing document.
It's blessed possibly for it meant to last
